Homed
Homing Requirements: Dixie needs a dog confident family who are understanding of her innate nervousness to settle with new people. As she settles and becomes confident, her beauty astounds. Dixie is focused on her toys and doesn’t easily share them, hence concerns about her around live-in young children. May relax with another dog if they are non-plus about toys. Dixie could live with older respectful children. Dixie can be left for short periods of time and is quite self contained.
Her Story: Dixie was handed over to a rescuer as 5 a month old puppy. She lived in a multi dog household with very young children. Her original owner reappeared insisting she was returned. Unbeknown to this rescuer, Dixie turned up in another rescue soon after. The rescue didn't check the chip and homed her 3 years ago with her current family: Their baby’s arrival 18 months ago changed the dynamics within the family and her owners are nervous of having their toddler around Dixie. They will try to hold on to Dixie until her home is found. Dixie is spayed, chipped and fully vax'd.
Advert: Dixie is a very lovely dog, conscious to please her owner and appeals for permission. She runs like the wind and can be trusted off lead with good recall. However she has the chase drive of a Lurcher, so need to be conscious if spotting livestock and cats before her and reconnect her on a lead. She loves puppies and smaller dogs: Has told a few larger dogs off, but then she is a bitch after all. She loves to play fetch and shows intense concentration when playing. She has trouble releasing her prize and often 2 objects need to be engaged to achieve surrender of the first. Dixie isn’t treat orientated but is definitely praise orientated. She travels in the car well. Dixie is nervous meeting people but settles. She would love to accompany her owner jogging or cycling.
Dixie is a slender lurcher who stands tall and elegant. She has the most beautiful yellow eyes. Her eyes feature greatly as a sight hound cross; she searches, surveys and is very visual. She has a nervous side which will need work by her owners to help her to invest her trust in new people, but once she does, she is smitten, as are they!
Please visit Dixie Lurcher DOB 07.07 Farnham Kennels to find out more and follow her progress.

Dear Dixie immediately placed her paws on my shoulders and gave me a wonderful welcome as I arrived today
We went for a walk Matt showing my her usual run off lead over the fields. Here she is spending off lead time and running like the wind with her beloved ball in her mouth.
Dixie came into kennels today to get to know us all and to ask our help to find her a wonderful home.
Today I came close to Dixie and I fell deeply under her initmate, generous and very loving spell. She cherishes and is so tender.
She is the perfect passenger and so enjoyed watching the world fly by on our hour journey to the kennels. She gave little licks on my cheek whenever I glanced her way.

Dixie is a little befuzzled at the moment and will do anything to have some human company , she was leading the the kennel maids a bit of a dance trying to get her back into her kennel when I arrived . We had a gentle walk and then sat a while on a tree stump. Dixie very very gently laid a paw on each of my shoulders and laid her head against mine .....
I didn't realise she was a lurcher, her confirmation isn't 'pointy'!! She is stunning and has lovely yellow eye lashes.
she trotted back into her kennel ok for me but didn't want me to leave : ( _________________ "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." ~ Aesop |

Here's Dixie with westbrom1 today:
Can I get up there please?
Dixie is a bit lost and sad at the moment, but hopefully she will settle soon. I couldn't tempt her with my liver cake in her kennel, but she did perk up when walking with westbrom1. She said a very polite hello to Jakey _________________ Forum Housekeeper |

Dixie is such a beautiful girl. I have to say that when I met her yesterday I was taken aback by how diddy she was. She looks a lot taller in the photos that she is - her back only comes up to knee height as is shown in one of the earlier photos.

I know a secret .......
I am rubbish at keeping secrets .....
So I am going to tell you right now ........
Dixie has a HOME of her own!!! with her very own Stacey & Dan
Stacey & Dan looked at Dixies thread and knew they could give her what she needs, bowled over by her beauty and affection they were under her spell once they met her
Stacey and Dan can offer Dixie an active lifestyle and she will also go to work with Dan too! We waved Dixie off sitting on her special furry blanket that carries the love of her past as she moves forward to her new home.
Thank you Stacy and Dan for sharing your lives with Dixie _________________ "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." ~ Aesop |

I think the smile on Dixie's face in the second pic says it all! _________________ "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." ~ Aesop |

Yes, indeed, SO good to see that big smile on her face!! And SO glad that this bewildered girl will be bewildered no more and instead in a warm, loving home again! _________________ "The question is not, 'Can they reason?' nor, 'Can they talk?' but rather, 'Can they suffer?'" - Jeremy Bentham |

Thank you for all the kind words, we are over the moon that we could give Dixie a home.
We thought we would give you a quick update on how Dixie is doing.
So far she has settling in at home very quickly.
Sunday - She was a very good girl heading straight out to the garden to go to the loo and to have a mad five minutes bombing around and having a play. She ate all her dinner, and enjoyed evening walk. We didn’t hear a peep from her all night until we got up this morning (she has found her new bed on our sofa).
Monday - She headed straight outside this morning for a toilet stop followed by running in and giving me yet another one of her huge cuddles & kisses, before we headed out for our morning walk. We went for a lovely long walk in the evening and she was full of energy, and then she was happy to chill out on the sofa with us for some cuddles and a little play (her sporadic loopy 5 minutes make us laugh a lot). Again she was very quiet over night but woke us up a bit earlier this morning with a few cries, wanting to go outside. She had a little mishap in the middle of the night but was kind enough to do it in the kitchen.
We’re hoping that she keeps up the good work and feels that she can settle and relax in her new home, she is a credit to her previous owners and we promise to provide her with all the love and care she deserves.
