Homed

Homing Requirements: Bronte needs a dog experienced owner who can guide her through in achieving her potential. She has clear Shepherd qualities of apprehensive to strangers but soon welcomes. She had sight hound qualities and must be watched around cats and small furries. Looking for a quiet settled life as an only pet status.

Her Story: Bronte was found stray and very thin. On observation she is definitely Greyhound cross Shepherd so naturally low weight. She was fostered in with 2 small terriers and did so well but began to get involved in the terriers tantrums and needed to come back to us at the sadness of her new family. Just too complex a home for her. Bronte is chipped, vax and neutered.

Video: Bronte ShepherdxGreyhound

Advert: Bronte is a superb cross breed. She is a large dog breed and will be easy for a large dog family to manage. She is a little unnerved in strange settings and with strangers but longing to welcome and settles easily when friendship is offered. Bronte currently is managed on an extender lead as she has chase drive coming from her sight hound roots! She is delighted to play and runs like the wind but will need a muzzle like Greyhounds do as she has mild prey drive.

Bronte has the most glorious soft thick coat, and yes she moults as Shepherd owners appreciate. She also has that close companion personality, delighting in placing her heavy head on your lap and receiving soft strokes to her head and shoulders. Intelligence, elegance and simply captivating! Destined to capture your heart and turn you into her devotee!

Please visit Bronte Shepherdx Greyhound DOB East Grins-tead to find out more and follow her progress.

If you are interested in re-homing please complete Our on-line Homing Questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

"Please note this dog is currently in boarding kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found"

See Bronte's thread below: Watch her progress through our RescueReferral Details: Dee, I've attached a pic of Bronte who is still here and has put on some weight and looking good. She goes out with all our new volunteers as she is so good. It would be great if you could still take her as we are struggling to move anything apart from little dogs and puppies! We have had her out with lots of different dogs with no problems. xxCelia

We are just arranging for Bronte to come in to us next week.

Oh how wonderful to see Bronte out enjoying herself already! I was so worried that she would be upset by the move and be too frightened to make friends but these pics have brought a tear to my eye! We all love her so much and thank you, thank you for taking her. This is a pic of her when she first arrived here Sad

Yeah! An update from Danielle who is now Bronte's mum!!!!

"We picked her up yesterday and went for a lovely walk early evening. My son Tristan was having a lay in as he has a day off when he heard our lurcher outside his room so he let him in and he and Bronte came in. See pictures..."

Think there is a competition going on because we both have 3 RR dogs  Wink Might be time to consider a bigger bed for the son eh!!!

Believe its early days and this is a trial but so far so good  Smile Keeping fingers crossed and watching this space.

My son just said to me "have you seen what that lady said about children??" I suppose it would be a good time to mention that he is a bar manager and big enough and ugly enough to get himself up. Having said all of that I'm sure it would work if he missed his alarm! The dog (I will not say the name as if she is staying her name will be changed - watch this space) is as we speak fast asleep on his bed again having just come back from a long walk. The heavens have now opened so they just missed that.  laughing6

and here is a photo of last evening's walk - next time I go with them I will take the better camera (this is a phone camera picture, unfortunately and the light was already fading).
She is great on the lead and very compliant and polite as was mentioned in the beginning of her thread. What a lovely girl. I think she is tired now though after this morning's walk.

I am so pleased to find Bronte under rehomed. It was a real treat to meet her on Friday and she was an absolute joy to be out with even if it was for just one walk only !   (That's a good thing of course !)

Really love her new name too - it suits her beautiful nature and gorgeousness.

I hope you all have a truly wonderful life together.  Be a good girl Bronte, you are very special indeed.

Big Hug

A quick update on Bronte before I get back to my work. I will post more pictures soon, I promise.
Bronte - the name - well we have a three legged Lurcher called Potter who is similar to her (see son's bed photos) and we wanted a matching name. We came up with a few different ones including Beatrice (Beatrice and Potter ?get it?) but we were met with opposition to that one and when Martin came up with Bronte as another author surname we felt it suited her quite well.

I have to admit to being a bit dippy at times and getting confused - I forget she is a girl because I am used to big dog being boy dog so I accidentally call her Bruno but she doesn't seem to hold it against me. Testiment to that was when this morning she quietly pushed open the bedroom door and gingerly padded around the bed to my side to give me a morning lick which saves on water costs because it is almost a whole face wash  :D

Anyway the serious stuff. We had collected her on Sunday, and made a vet appointment on Monday for vax and check - chip comes on second vax (don't know why). Bronte was not previously chipped. She is chronically underweight (rocket science must have been involved for that one) and her hips are worryingly uneven. A worming tablet the size of a horse tablet was taken home and half a jar of peanut butter later my son managed to get most of it down. Then Advocated and fed and you have one relaxed giant puppy. She eats loads but that is probably because she has had to scavenge in her life and she thinks if it is there, make the most of it and while she is so thin, we will let her carry on. She does stop eventually so she probably knows what is best for her.
To start with if you went to stroke her she cowered slightly but that seems to be easing off already.

She is lovely with all the dogs and the one we were worried about, Spice, is absolutely fine with her. He already loves Potter so he probably thinks it is another friend to play with. Oscar is also fine - practically ignores her which is fine by her I'm sure.

Bronte is all in all a lovely, friendly big girl who so far has not shown any worrying tendencies but we are all aware that we have to be on our guard with any rescue and it is early days.

Grandad Roy (my father-in-law) who adoped RR Jake who is 15 now and spoilt rotten, once bought his other dog, a small GSD type a lovely big pink dog bed cushion thing and he has given it to Bronte. It's strange but she will not go in a big bed with a cushion but as soon as I put a folded duvet down she jumped straight on it. This lovely pink bed suits her down to the ground though.

I know she was not with RR long but for those who did meet her and those who saw her and are interested I will get some lovely pictures (where is the sun though) and post them.

More pictures would be great! I count myself of one of the very lucky walkers to have met her and I am so pleased I did.  So all updates will be very welcome!

Also I have to publicly offer a giant thank you to Charlie (Charlie & Ted) who I walk with on a Friday.

Charlie had found the largest harness in the kennels (!) and Bronte was ready to walk when I arrived. I instantly thought Bronte was wonderful and Charlie gave me the leads for a minute to take a photo. One look at me gazing adoringly at Bronte and Charlie realised it was pretty unlikely she was going to get the leads back so she bowed out gracefully and headed back in for another dog to walk. So I was honoured to have a lovely walk with her, especially now knowing how quickly a lovely home came forward for her.

Truly an adorable dog. Hope you all have lots of fun.
