Lovely post Dee - nice to hear you are a convert. Keep spreading the word. I wrote the following for Lynne for the Staffie Rescue website - think you will relate to it now ...
“A Love Spell”!
S is for forever 'sweet', a nature so very dear
wanting to be close to you, always staying near
T is for 'tormented', a bad name unfairly stuck
a cruel label pinned upon them, difficult to buck
A is for 'amusing', making you smile from deep within
entertaining through and through, your heart they'll truly win
F is for a true 'friend', no better soul mate will you find
trusting, faithful, reliable, gentle and very kind
F is for a 'family', they'll just adore one and all
worship the ground you walk on, if you’ll only throw a ball
O is for 'ordinary', a word definitely they're not
for this dog is the complete package, it's got the lot
R is for 'resilience', the breed that’s striving to survive
given just 7 days at the pound & lucky if they stay alive
D is for 'determined', to please you night and day
do everything you ask of them, do anything you say
S is for the 'sensitive' soul, who meets your every demand
learning the rules off by heart, and keenly waiting command
H is for a 'hooded' youth, a life this dog left behind
it only conjures memories, of a time that was unkind
I is for 'intelligence,' it’s there without a doubt
see it in their faces, you can see them working it out
R is for 'regal', they deserve to hold their heads up high
a pretty heart shaped face, looking you lovingly in the eye
E is for 'enchanting', don't miss out on a chance to own
a dog so full of character, who needs a place called ‘home’
B is for not ‘believing’, the myths that surround this breed
come meet one and until then, don’t trust what you read
U is for your ‘understanding’, they really need a chance
so consider what they offer, give them that 2nd glance
L is for ‘loyal’ and steadfast, they just need to feel they belong
they’ll always prove themselves, they’ve done nothing wrong
L is for the ‘love’ they’ll show you, their pleasure to repay
for opening your heart to an SBT, grateful til their dying day
T is for ‘Terrier’, and the good things that name implies
so don’t miss an opportunity, based on rumour, hype & lies!

I hope everyone is happy for us to adopt this bias..the Staffie problem is so obvious in the capital. I have also thought of setting up a new organisation with a staffie help bias called CAPITAL DOGS.. maybe people could agree to (wo)man a helpline for an evening or morning a week
|
Is this going, still a thought or on the back burner? I have gallons of time to fight the staffy corner (from home exclusively though ), gimme a yell if a voice on a phone is needed with this? |

Surely its time to write a book on the plight of Staffies ... the horrendous stories keep coming, the predicaments these lovely dogs find themselves in. Have to a get 'shame them' culture out there.
We are taking in a Staffie today who got into a fight with another Staffie bitch she had lived with successfully but ... yes, you guessed it ... both in season. This sweetheart was dumped at the vets to be PTS because the vet bill would be too much even though she wasn't the dog that caused the damage. We dont have the money, but God gave us a heart! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!

"Maria Daines backs the Staffy Campaign and has released a new song"!
http://www.maria-daines.com/music-88.html
In a Daily Mail report in September 2008, the RSPCA said 'Hundreds of Staffordshire bull terriers are being let loose on the streets of Britain because the breed has 'gone out of fashion'.
Spokeswoman Klaire Kennett said the breed became popular with 'hoody' owners because of its muscular appearance and tough nature.
She said: 'It became a sort of fashion accessory for hoodies but it is now not so trendy and we are taking in many found abandoned. Every one of our centres around the country is looking for new homes for them.
Ms Kennett said 80 per cent of RSPCA prosecutions concern Staffordshire bull terriers and she blamed the owners who mistreat or abandon them.
*****
'If we cannot find workable solutions to the obvious problems of overpopulation and irresponsible ownership of Staffies in the UK today, then we cannot truly call ourselves a nation of animal lovers.
I believe much more can and should be done to raise awareness. Education and regulation is the key to alleviating suffering. In experienced hands Staffies are wonderful, loyal family dogs, yet sadly many are slipping through the net and finding themselves living miserable, inadequate lives which are wholly unsuitable for this big hearted breed'

'The Staffie Song'
It seems everyone said the more the merrier
When they bred the Staffordshire Bull Terrier
From coast to coast from town to town
On every street we get around
Soon we became quite a trend
Yob dogs made to defend
To show how 'vicious' we can be
Well that's a joke just look at me!
Now I'm here in a cage called death row
I got no hope, nowhere to go
And nobody wants our kind
We're just playing for time
We're the Staffies the unwanted puppies
To be born a Staff is unlucky
The most unwanted dog in Britain
But we can be sweet as a kitten
C'mon people can't you see
You're not helping by breeding me
You're making a rod for our backs
It's not much fun to be a Staff
Oh the problem is out of hand
We're being put down every day man
Old ones, young ones, pups
Some don't get to grow up
When you see an advert in the paper
'Staffies for Sale' - turn it over
Don't even look, don't be tempted
Until every shelter is emptied
Cos if you buy one of us will die
Then how can you look us in the eye
We're friendly, we just wanna play
So rescue a Staffie today!
We're the Staffies the unwanted puppies
To be born a Staff is unlucky
The most unwanted dog in Britain
But we can be sweet as a kitten

|
|
A petition was submitted to No 10:
“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to keep Staffordshire Bull Terriers out off the Dangerous Dogs Act.”
Details of Petition:
“yet again the much loved staffy is under the firing line to be put on the dangerous dogs act register.. this is one of the most loving friendly dogs that anyone could ever own and like with all breeds it the way they are treated that makes a dog who it is and not just a breed. because its a staffy and not a cute little corgi [who have a nasty bite] why should this dog face a unhappy life of discrimination. sign this to keep our much loved staffys from being classed as dangerous. and invite mr brown to my home to see my staffy.”
The government's response:

Can you believe our little rescue with its 'nothing in the bank' status seems to be the rescue most people are turning to to help their staffies. Why..
Rescues are either showing a staffie prejudice or giving a 'no hope' attitude to people. Would you place your much love pet in the hands of a rescue who are strongly hinting if they take it off you they probably wont make it out the other side. Some Rescues are positive about the breed but only willing to keep so many in their kennels. We are so positive about staffies and they are safe with us, we are just crippled by carrying too many in our kennels (my fault )!
We have many sitting in our kennels currently who are fantastic dogs..just need to get the public to shake off the 'press's hype' and appreciate what a fantastic option they are for their next dog. Little clowns that they are!
Kennel fund has taken a year to get off the ground but thanks to our super websites..people are really beginning to offer help and that help is beginning to support our work.
Thanks be to God for the FABULOUS homes we have found for our special staffies over the past year.
Have put this entry 'cause just wanted to revive this thread in people's minds. We are still living through a Holocaust and we continue to have our little Anne Franks in our kennels waiting for their freedom.
