A few photos of Bruno at the local park earlier this afternoon. He loves a ball, but won't allow you to throw it for him!

Thank you to all of you for your lovely comments and support.
We will miss Bruno very much, but I know he will be so loved with Ann.
He will always be in my heart, just hope I can see to drive tomorrow through the tears . Both sad and very happy tears. |

Bruno arrived yesterday and we are getting on famously. He is so affectionate and responsive and a joy to have around the place. I quickly learned that closed doors are no obstacle to him and I'm attempting to be more tidy, (not easy for me) and careful where food is concerned. At night after a restless start, I guess he was looking for his companion Ziggy, he slept well on his bed and I in mine.
Thanks to all of those who have given him such love and care and training, especially his forster mum and family, you must miss him loads. He is well worth all of it and I am looking forward to getting to know him better and better, and him me. I've no action photos yet but I'll try to attach one of him playing with a toy. We are off now for our 3rd walk.

Come back from a lovely walk if damp and muddy - It's done us both good, I've woken up, more or less, and Bruno's ready for a snooze. By the way he is very considerate of the furnishings, after coming in from the muddy walk the first thing he did was to lay down and clean all his paws, before settling down on the couch. I've taken a picture - Sorry its not an action shot out and about - I did remember my camera this morning but it rained, so had to make do with Bruno snoozing on the setee. He kindly woke up to look at the camera then went back to his snooze!
I introduced him to a new grooming glove the other day - having established that it wasn't a new toy he sat blissfully while I groomed him, then laid on his side for more and helpfully turned over for the other side to be done - he loved it. The nights go well and calmly, but I think he still looks for Ziggy.
I look forward to meeting with you Zoe for a joint walk

I took Bruno to his first training class last night and he was brilliant, I was so proud of him. He did 'sit', and 'wait' 'come' 'down' and even 'heel'. All the other dogs were young puppies so he wasn't over interested in them and that made it easier. I bought a halty there which has transformed his walking on the lead almost instantaneously.

| I'm just back from my afternoon walk with Bruno, practically in tears. Had a lovely walk up to about 45mins in, when we came to the point I usually put his lead back on. He's always been very good about this and had started to come back at this place even before I call. Today he was less keen as he had found some wild apples which he loves. But he came back, then suddenly he spotted a women with a portly brown lab who was walking calmly off lead with her about maybe 20-30 yards/metres away and Bruno dashed in full speed straight into the side of the lab and of course a fight ensued. WE separated them without any injuries, but the other dog had been on his back under Bruno. What was going on? Why did he do it - there was no question he was the agressor, completely unprovoked. I'm in bits. Help! |

Hi Ann
Very sorry to hear that. It's tough when your dog acts out of character.
Quite clearly it it not acceptable for Bruno to behave like this, but the fact there was no injury demonstrates that Bruno's intention was not really to "fight".
One never always knows why dogs suddenly behave like this. Perhaps he perceived the lab as being a threat. Perhaps the lab was not neutered and Bruno felt the need "challenge" him. (my staffy x does this with entire males)
Don't lose faith in Bruno over this. But of course, take precautions so this doesn't happen again.
Perhaps have him on a flexi lead for a while. At least in places where u may see other dogs, until u regain your confidence.
Dogs act instinctively, which can sometimes baffle us!
Don't become disheartened. Chin up and try not to have this at the forefront of your mind tomorrow.
Take solace in the fact that he didn't attack, and showed good bite inhibition.

Ann - I'm really sorry to hear about your walk yesterday I hope that you are ok today.
Vicky has made a lot of good points in her post - also, Bruno is also still finding his feet with you as he has had a lot of change in the past few weeks.
An extending lead will help regain your confidence and also practise his recall safely - your dog training classes will also benefit both you and him as you kow he has been fine with the dogs in the class.
If you are still happy to walk on Saturday then it would be lovely to see you both and we can get Herbie and Bruno out and about with a controlled meeting and a relaxed walk
It may be worth speaking to Wendy who fostered Bruno to see if she can give you an advice as I think that she probably knows him and his mannerisms better than anyone |

Well its 3 weeks today and Bruno seems well settled in. He was very good at his 2nd dog training class, he is so quick to learn with food as the reward. He seems to eat anything he can get hold of, including attempting to sample the dead stalks of plants I cut down in the garden, dropped quinces and as for apples he can smell them out froma distance!
We're both getting more used to the flexilead now, mostly he know how much length he has although when he gets excited he forgets sometimes! Met a lively little terrier this morning (no idea of the variety) who was exceedingly friendly and Bruno was very tolerant when he climbed all over his head! Labradors seem to be his bęte-noir, he can spot them from a great distance and will not tolerate them near him. there seem to be a lot of them round here! He's also made friends with more than one collie, and a very large and striking looking boxer cross - (that meeting was better previously, off the lead than on). Its quite fun meetin other dog - walkers and getting to know the regulars and their dogs, by sight anyway.
As a side benefit I am getting much fitter and have lost about half a stone.
I'll try and get a photo this afternoon, hopefully in the sunshine. |

Hi all, great walk this morning in the sunshine - we went to the woods where I let Bruno have a really good run. I've been trying and failing to upload a couple of photos I took showing Bruno posing in his new lead. I was particularly pleased that he 'waited' to be photo although to be honest he had had a very good run and pulled me back up the hill. At the training class we were concentrating on 'wait' which Bruno couldn't! We had to step back 2 paces while they waited but I couldn't even lean back half a step - (unless he was distracted by the exceptionally obedient mastif next to us). So I counted it great progress that he waited for his photo! |

Bruno is now seeking an urgent foster place or new home. He needs a confident owner who gets his breed mix either understands his Collie sensitivities e.g sensitivity around his collar or his Lurcher sighthound traits and can manage him off lead with recall attention, longline or extender, as he needs regular running exercise. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!

I met Bruno at Gatwick South kennels then drove him to Gatwick North where he has a bed big enough to take not just his own dog bed but his duvet too.
We think he remembered me I got a lovely greeting and he was as good as gold in the car, sitting on his duvet and looking wistfully out of the back window. We had planned a walk before his journey to GN but the weather was not in a good mood and he'd already had a 90 minute walk so he passed on that one.
A really lovely boy one of my favourites I hope he isn't in kennels very long. |

Delighted to meet our friend today at the kennels. After a wonderful cuddle we had a wonderful walk together. Bruno is in fine shape, has a lot more weight on him. His fur is fantastic and his smile magnificent.
