The truth is it may seem fantastic  BUT that is equivalent to 4 litters in a six month period.  How many litters of staffs staffie x's do you think there was advertised in loot? Gum Tree? preloved? do I go on...

In the last 24 hours I have heard about 5 staffie staffiex on dia straits and that is just members of the public  then there is the rescue email pleads; pound pleas.  An Am Bull dogs sits in the vets as I type and if I lift the phone he is saved..if I don't I can't see anyone coming forwards for him..our kennels are full and we are over committed financially. I am typing this because I don't think I will pick up the phone..,I have emailed and ask the sender if she has anywhere she could hold him..

I check my email..whow reply...he is safe Battersea have agreed to take him..phew..one, as safe as any staffie is, in Battersea but lets hope.

I had a talk with a lady this pm and suggested a staffie would suit..oh no she said one rescue told me they are bred for fighting and I'd never chance my child around one!!! 15 minutes later she had a slightly different appreciation of the breed!

So very sad Lynne, no-one is able to save them all and never will be able to while the stigma is there - absolutely heart wrenching.

Anyone who knows Staffies needs to keep spreading the word and continue to beat down the fallacies - they are loyal, sweet natured, happy & very affectionate dogs and they always wear a smile on their faces 24/7.

Oh we have now got through Christmas and on the last day of the year one reflects back.   We all have opened our hearts to the Staffies who have brightened our lives in their hour of need. We have begun to help more London dogs and this means we are there for Staffies.  As a small rescue we are in a real dilemma. Do we pick and choose so we offer our potential rehomers more choice or are we there for the dogs that most need.  I have always felt that we are not state run; we have no pay masters; we do what we can and what we're called to do.  We are free to decide which dogs WE need to be there for and our core team members have all developed a passion for staffies BUT we can easyily get saturated with Staffies. The general public who whilst looking for their next dog will be well advised to explore the breed..and with a little courage and a hard neck towards others unfounded predjudice discover this breed too.

We have teamed up with Emma and Janet in Croydon kennels who are true animal lovers and put their heart and soul into their work their mission. We are working closely with Elaine and Niall who are both dog wardens who are committed to their role and passionate in their lives for the dogs they serve.  Both have had to make hard decisions recently as yes ..no room at the INN! and you can only delay the inevitable for so long..there is never going to be enough rescue places; and rescue homes for the number of Staffies that come loose from their homes. Our minimum donation is constantly compared to the cost of pups. People have to be committed to rescue when the general public and press castice them for taking a dog in with the financial outlays and loss of, so called, freedoms a dog entails.

We are perhaps are guilty of filling our kennels with staffies. We are confused as to how we keep a float with each one nearly costing us £70 a week. We don't have legacies to call upon only adoption donations which barely cover the vets fees.

We celebrate a staffie finding its home like no other dog finding its home..the tension; the risk; the resolve that we held in being there for that dog paid off... when in a blink of an eye you can justifiabily turning your head to ignore that which is so easy to ignore..another staffie being put to sleep..just another Staffie ?who cares..such is the society we live in. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad

Dear Lynne and all at Rescue Remedies.

I know that I cannot even begin to understand what you all go through in having to decide when you can or cannot help another dog but I'm sure that it is extremely hard. What I do know though is that the work you do is fantastic and that every dog you save is a tremendous achievement. Look at all the families and dogs whose lives have been so enriched by your efforts this year alone. I am always amazed at how much is done each time I look through these pages. From a personal view point, if it wasn't for you all we would never have had Clarence and we would not now have all the wonderful memories that we do.

We have started to donate monthly and would like to encourage all to do so where ever possible.

So we would like to say a big thank you and wish everyone a Happy New Year!!

I can still see the dream of a permanent kennel set aside waiting just for those reprieved dogs that are about to be "put to sleep" or are sitting waiting on death row.  That kennel run, funded by monthly contributions, by people who want to make a difference.  We still have a way to go to achieving that, but little by little we are getting there - chip chipping away!  Everytime someone makes a monthly commitment the light at the end of the tunnel gets brighter.  Very Happy

Don't underestimate what a difference a monthly contribution will make - whatever the amount, whatever the reason it is made for.  Don't doubt that YOU WILL BE MAKING A BIG DIFFERENCE to what Rescue Remedies can achieve Very Happy.

Lynne and RR
for my staffies you have been able to be there for(and for the ones that weren't mine, but I came to know and love), I am so very grateful .
But here's an interesting point - I was on the phone desperately trying to find a place for a staffie to a national well known animal charity. they actually had a man in at the desk looking for one, and this well known rescue didn't actually have a staffie in. Happy ending for my lad, as they took him so this man could adopt from them, but what does this tell us about the decisions being made ?
The situation will only get worse, and the smaller rescues take on much more than their fair share. Personally, I feel I would rather ask and be turned down, than not ask and a dog miss it's last hope. It's tough to be turned down, but its just as tough to turn them down
