Homing Requirements: Taffy needs his family to continue his socialisation and training. He needs to live at least with one other dog. Taffy needs a secure garden which is unexposed to well meaning 'greeters'. Taffy has chase drive and is not an off lead dog but needs caution around meeting people outside as he doesn't like sudden approach. Taffy needs reassurance with visitors, 'voice' and hand held for smell approach can be used but better just to give him space Key words "He approaches in his own time". Best not to live with children due to his fear of visitors. Not for cats or small furries.
His Story: Taffy was found stray perhaps beside the River Taff in Cardiff, a welsh man indeed! Taffy has been in rescue since the end of June '10 and is now fostered in a multi-pet household. Neutered, chipped and vax'd.
Advert: Taffy is bright and adapts well in a relaxed atmosphere. He needs his people to set the tone, as if left to him, he can get coy and nervous. A reassuring voice, a command and he melts into friendship. He isn't going to cope living with young children. Visitor children with introductions managed, just fine! Ideally an older and calmer household for him. Another dog would help Taffy, he likes chums!
Taffy is a little leggy hound cross but only 16' tall. Taffy loves the car. He can be left without destruction. He loves to play with toys. He is a bit of a chancer and will thieve food left on kitchen tops once you are out the room: Innocence himself on investigation..oh yes full of character! If you are looking for a gentle, cheeky and wise character; Taffy is 3 in one!

Janet and Olwen have come forwards and can offer him a foster place for the duration if he settles. A foster place where he can build confidence and skills in prep. for his home.
He has been neutered and vax'd..and arrived today. Janet will inform us further.... _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier..they are their own persons!

Taffy has arrived He shared our sandwiches in the car and when we set off,put his head on Mum's knee and dozed off - wish I could have got a photo.
When we got home, I went inside to get Paddy and when I came out he was saying hello to our next door neighbour's mad dog! Had a nice walk with Paddy, met Bella on the way back in and since then he's played non-stop with Paddy, short break in the middle for a bath and he and Paddy are playing chase around the living room now
Taffy grins at you when you say hello and his tail hasn't stopped wagging since he came. Takes treats very nicely too. All in all, we couldn't have wished for a better start.
Tried to take some photos, but they won't stay still for long enough. I will post some later if I manage to get any decent ones! |

Well done Janet - you're going to work your magic again! Good luck for Taffy to find a nice forever home before too long where he can grow and mature in comfort. L x _________________ I'm always suspicious of people who dont have some pet or another in their life! |

Thanks for your nice comments He's very sweet and it will be a pleasure to look after him.
The photos aren't very good but he and Paddy move too quickly for my camera
Just look at the length of that tongue!
It's been a long day for little Taffy - time for a snooze

I think the pics are fab! He looks lovely. He will make a lovely little dog for someone - at least he's at a young age when he can be trained and shaped to suit someone and to lose any issues he may have. Thank heavens he's been rescued. Taffy has made himself at home already He slept in the kitchen with Paddy last night - cried for about a minute when they were put to bed and then not a peep all night and no accidents
He's had a busy day today playing chase with Paddy, sleeping and then playing some more. It makes us dizzy just watching. He can jump over our stairgates without a problem
If you go to the kitchen he follows and sits in his bed there until you leave and then he follows you back. He doesn't beg for food and eats his own food slowly. He has no issues with sharing food and will let you take food away from him without a problem.
He's a very affectionate little boy and loves to be cuddled. He's now sitting on the arm of the sofa with his paws on my knee
He's learnt sit and down already
His housetraining needs a little work - he had a few accidents yesterday and only a couple today. By the weekend I think we'll have it sorted!
His fur on his face is so soft and silky and is the most beautiful apricot colour. What a special boy he is.

Janet, these pics are great! Isn't it lovely to see the dogs having so much fun. I agree with something you said (in an email to me) that you don't need TV to keep you entertained; just two dogs! lol _________________ I'm always suspicious of people who dont have some pet or another in their life! |

Taffy has had a very busy day today
We took him to a car boot sale this morning, where he met loads of people, children and dogs. He wanted to play with every dog he met and wasn't at all worried what size/age they were. Trouble was that not all of them wanted to play with him
Lots of people made a fuss of him and admired him and considering everything was new to him, he was a complete star and made us very proud.
Then we went to the kennels and he 'helped' Mum sort out the leads, collars and harnesses He met Shadow and one of the kennel rotties - who didn't want to play with him
Taffy came out for a walk with Russell, who barked in his face a few times and kept barging into him, but he didn't seem to mind and walked side by side with Russell the whole time
When we got home, Taffy decided he was feeling confident enough to launch himself on top of Bella, our gsdx. All 4 of his feet left the ground and Bella didn't even tell him off!
He's completely worn out now and fast asleep - so is my Mum!! |

Taffy has been with us for a week now and we've learnt quite a lot about this lovely little chap already
We wondered what sort of crossbreed he was, and this was answered by a man we met at the car boot sale on Sunday - he's apparently a JRT x whippet (the man used to breed them). We had a measuring/weighing session today and he's 13" to the shoulder and weighs 9.8 kilos.
This is what we know about him:
He's very loving and likes to be stroked and cuddled. He's not a very licky dog, but will oblige when asked. He'll sit on your knee, over your shoulder, on your head, will rest his head or paws on your knee, will hang over the arm of the settee or even sleep in his bed.
He loves playing and will play endlessly with any dog that's up for it! He wants to meet every dog he sees - he has lately found his voice and will bark if the other dog won't play - he just can't understand why not every dog wants him to hang around their necks He also barks when he's not sure what's going on - but settles very quickly when reassured.
He can really sprint and jump quite high - he'd mastered the stairgates here in minutes. When we're out walking, he shows no interest in birds, squirrels etc. All he wants to do is keep up with Bella and play play play
He eats very sedately and doesn't mind sharing food/water bowls.
He's met lots of people and other dogs and today was made a fuss of by 2 small children - he's fine with all.
He's a very quick learner - almost housetrained now - only 2 accidents in the house in the last 3 days, both times our fault for forgetting to take him out in time. No accidents overnight since he's been here
He sleeps in the kitchen overnight with Paddy and apart from 1 night when he cried and started to scratch the door frame, he's not made a sound He's always beside himself with happiness the first time you see him in the morning.
We've left him with Bella and Paddy today for nearly 3 hours - no problem at all.
All in all, Taffy is a great little dog and not a scrap of trouble. He'll make a fantastic family dog. He loves the company of people and dogs and ideally he would like a playmate!!!

Taffy looks very similar to Cerys. Same long legs, deep chest and narrow face. Where he is apricot she is dark bitter chocolate brown, but the marking are similar.
She has been identified by a friend who judges terrier shows as a terrier/ whippet cross lurcher. Shame as with her speed I was hoping for a winner in terrier races next year, but she will be definitely be banned as unfair competition Whippets can get up to 40mph in short sprints.
The terrier in her cross is Smooth Fox or Parsons Jack Russell, which makes her bigger than Taffy. Its a lovely cross. Whippets are sweet natured and very friendly. Plus they do like to sit around on sofas a lot. Add that to the terrier fire and and they gel perfectly. He will make someone a wonderful loyal and adoring companion. |

I'm sure Taffy will make a very loyal friend, he's lots of fun to be with and he really loves company.
He was so happy to see me today when I came back from work that he jumped on top of the kitchen worktop and squeezed his nose through an open window to say hello - good job it wasn't open enough for him to get out |

I had the pleasure of taking Taffy and Olwyn to the vets this morning. Unfortunately it was too soon to have his second vax, but he is now microchipped and had a health check. Needless to say he is in fine form, just a puppy tooth or 2 to lose.
He was as good as gold in the vets and he then spent the afternoon at my house playing with Scooby -
He was very well behaved with the children and they loved him too. He did have a funny five minutes when I told him not to expand a hole already dug in the lawn by another dog - he ran around in mad circles giving a little bark as he passed me. Could see the whippet speed and the terrier attitude
Such an all round lovely boy |
