Homing Requirements: Russell is just over a year and a lively 'puppy dog with a lot of catching up to do. He has never had a secure garden to enjoy his energy and sooo needs this. Requires further training to build on recent foundation of skills. Could live with children providing exit management maintained. Russell could live with another dog but equally could be an only dog. Can bark when excited.
His Story: Russell as a pup lived in a highrise flat with toddlers and another pup. He proved too excitable, barking as a consequence. We homed him in active dog centred family with children and a Spaniel. He has done really well, but the older Spaniel didn't enjoy having a terrier around.
Advert: Russell is a Fox Terrier x Jack Russell. He is spirited and young and oh so joyful. Russell has never had unrestricted access to a back garden to explore his energy and he so needs that. Russell went from living in a highrise flat to a detached house with a large unsecure garden. He needs a happy medium. He would enjoy a companion dog with similar energy levels or a fun family. He will make you laugh; yes you must have a sense of humour! He is a charmer and will charm his way into your heart.
Russell is a high energy dog who embraces life with all 4 paws. He has lots of 'fun' energy to expend so an active focused family who can ensure this energy is explored and he remains safe ... so exit management as in a terrier home. He can start of with excited barking but he is just feeling overwhelmed from embracing the life he has so much appetite for...he soon settles. Russell has done really well but sitting in kennels has been an insult to his already disrupted life..PS he loves water!

Russell's thread below:
Russell came into the kennels on Friday morning 30th Oct.
Russell an 8 month puppy who is just bringing it all together. He has been living in a flat with a new baby and reported to be good with children, people, great with other dogs and a bitch puppy. His stimulation came from playing with the puppy and barking as people as they go passed the flat's balcony and the neighbours complained.
Yes really lovely puppy dog he has proved himself to be and learning to cope in kennels. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Russell has moved in with 'his' family as a trial adoption. He has Alfie the Cocker Spaniel closefriend and 2 children; Deana and Mark plus the chickens!
Here is Russell and Alfie playing on meeting..they have squabbled over bones which was just a puff of hot air; played and then played. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Russell was formerly adopted on the 2nd of December. He had escaped twice from the garden. It is very learge and hedges so easy to get through. But his owner was sure he is OUR man..and we are getting there! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Russell has got himself and his owners into trouble sheep worrying with great determination he slips his harness. Sadly he is now looking for a new home. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Had a lovely chat to Russell's current owner tonight to be able to complete his advert. The issues really are around his terrier energy proving to 'bashful' for the spaniel. He also needs to go on extender as he just see a walk as a great run losing his connectedness. I have advised the Ancol under arm harness which terriers can't slip out of and also should he accidently get out a high pitched whistle or squeaky toy often engages a terrier curiousity to bring them towards the owner. The children adore him and the family are determined for him not to go into kennels while he awaits his home. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Poor Russell had to wait until last today He was quite calm in his kennel but when he realised we were going out, he got really excited. He is definitely a little livewire!!! I think he bunny hopped for the first 15 minutes of our walk and then slowed down ever so slightly. He didn't really pay much attention to me when we were out and about, but was very affectionate when we got back to his kennel
Yep- bunny hopping is just the right way to describe Russel He does get so excited about going out and has learnt pretty quickly which way he needs to go
Play in the paddock first - no thanks, lets just get on with it
Lovely, lovely boy who is just ready to live life in the fast lane You cannot help but smile.
Lord alive, Russell is a little man on a mission - I am not sure he knows where but that doesn't seem important. The main thing is to just GO and keep GOING!!
Yes, he does pull just a little as he boings along but this is one busy fellow with a lot to achieve on his short walks out so he has to make the most of them. I suspect that with lots of activity and stimulation on offer this happy boy would soon settle. Seems a lovely natured boy.
Yes, Russell was in a big hurry to get somewhere again - he's very focussed on running straight ahead as fast as he can and he doesn't do much looking around.
I had to laugh because there were lots of muddy puddles in the woods, so I picked him up and carried him several times as I thought that if I let him run through them his back legs would have looked like car wheels spinning around in the mud. He didn't mind being picked up at all and being carried under my arm gave him a chance to catch his breath. He's very sweet - just incredibly busy!!
Wow!! Little Russell with BIG amounts of energy! He is such a sweetie, was so keen to go out, pulled the whole way, although as someone else said I'm sure with more gauranteed walks every day he would settle, ran with us, jumped through every muddy puddle you could see and seemed to thoroughly enjoy it all!
It was so hard to get a pic of him standing still but we did manage in the kennell after drying him off, I have sent them to Sharon (sorry to put extra work on you!). He is lovely and sweet, walked really well with Cassie and Starsky and I'm very sure will make someone very happy soon, he looked really cute in his little harness too!
Russell, still sitting quietly in his kennel just waiting for that someone to come along and take him away. He sits by his gate and just seems to go off into a world of his own
The only good thing is that he really seems to have a lot of 'get up and go' when he comes out for his walk
Hang in there, Russell, it can't be too much longer
