Posted: Thu Oct 22, 2009 2:44 pm Post subject: Rhona Staffie x DOB 27/9/08 Deal Kent Foster
Homing Requirements: Rhona is a keen young dog. She has supreme dog skills - and must join with another male dog. Fostered successfully with dogs, cats, older children and small furries. Needs command and good exercise regime to avoid leaping in excitement. Rhona is an off-lead dog. Rhona can be left for periods- explores left food or waste bins rarely, so her environment needs prep.
Her Story: Rona was surrendered into Battersea as an 8 month old pup. We took her on as a mature young lady who had learnt to accept kennel life, but was hoping for much more. Short term foster Dec 09 with another dog, cats and small furries. Current foster with dogs & cats. Rhona is neutered, chipped and vax'd.
Advert: Rhona is so lovely. Yes really lovely. Look at her photos to see her tempermant shine out. Everyone who meets her finds an emergent smile appearing on their face. She has proved herself to be a very versatile dog and picked up so many merit badges responding well to training. She is living with 2 other dogs and cats in foster and is more confident around other dogs. Rhona also has been fostered with another dog, cats, small furries and teenagers!
Rhona sadly matured in kennels. Her foster placements have allowed her to catch up on missed experiences and bring it all together. She has made wonderful advances and is the most wonderful pet. What else could you ask for in a dog? She offers everything. She needs to be kept focused and living with another dog will help wonderfully. Whilst visiting children would be fine; as a live-in situation older children whilst she learns not to leap up in enthusiasm. Rhona is almost there...where is there?... in with her own lucky family!

Rhona – SBTx – dob: 27/9/08 – female, neutered, micro-chipped and up to date with vaccinations
Originally brought into Battersea in May 2009 by the father of the owner who had gone to Spain and apparently wasn’t returning. It seems they had had Rhona since a puppy and told us that she was too boisterous around the younger children and that she could be destructive when left alone – she had damaged a wall. They also said though that she was good with people and dogs.
Our assessments have found that she’s a sweet natured girl who does need experienced owners who can implement all necessary ground rules.
She likes ragga and squeaky toys though can get ott with them so work will be needed to instill a swap/ leave command. She likes her food and knows a sit command, she can take food gently and was fine with a chewy treat.
She has been on for general handling though can get a bit wriggly.
With other dogs she can appear uncomfortable around ott characters and can find them intimidating at times – she has relaxed around other dogs when there’s room to move and she can get out of their way if she wants to.
Potential problems: Rhona as a 8 month pup in May was being unsettled when left alone and destructive so will need experienced owners who can work to overcome these issues. She can jump a five and a half foot fence so gardens will need to be securely high fenced.
She can get ‘mouthy’ when overexcited but does respond to general commands well.
Medically, she had sore ears on arrival but these were treated with drops – she did have a bad lot of kennel cough but this was treated and she recovered well ( June 2009 ) – Battersea spayed her in August 2009

Rhona has arrived. Sue is very impressed with her. She is similar to evette but lighter framed and longer legged. Just settling into new residence..welcome Rhona so nice to know you! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Sadly didn't get to the kennels until 4.30 last night so didn't have time to meet Rhona probably but I said hello through the kennel door. She looked sad and a little trembly. Slender framed. It must feel all new and uncertain for her. I was thinking of her last night, Battersea would have been a mass hysteria on fireworks night being in the heart of London so at least we have saved her from that. _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Took Rhona out today and yes she is a little shaky/nervous but loving too. She saw me coming and going a few times and this meant she was quite settled when I went in to see her later. Excited but not too difficult to get the harness on. Had a lovely walk with her - at first she was terrified of the sheep but then one ran and she wanted to give chase but was calm with no barking, she may have just wanted to play. She has the end kennel so can see you going in and out and she kept looking hopefully at me when I passed again. She is a lovely girl and I look forward to getting to know her better.

Poor Rhona missed out again today as I got sidetracked and then the fireworks started. What is astonishing is how quiet she is, as dog after dog goes past her. I gave her a toy, as I did to everyone else, but really she just wanted some attention. first on the list next time sweetheart,
Rhona is much more confident outside her kennel. She is affectionate and can leap up to say hello but easily diverted and controlled. Walks well on the lead and her energy is quite calm under the circumstance she finds herself in. Amazing looks..striking! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Rhona is just delightful High excitement levels in the kennel because she knows she is going out but once on the walk a little angel. She stops and looks to make sure you are there and is thrilled if you then get down for a snuggle and leans into you. What a lovely, lovely girl.

Dear Rhona came out to play today. She had a little run but her focus was on company..a few leaps to say hello and to ensure engagement. She has the puppy close to her paw tips. She is beautiful..so much a whippet cross Staffie. The pictures below show more the bull breed which gives her such a loving nature. When she walks her ears are held close to her head lying parallel down her neck so much the sighthound. Really feel Rhona is an accompanished dog despite her chequered background. She is gentle, sincere and concerned for your welfare. A loving bitch in deed a well sort after cross breed.
Exquisite markings! _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Rhona sits nervously in her kennel, but when she comes out to play she is suddenly confident if not a little clingy. Lovely girlie _________________ You can't train the terrier out of a terrier!
Rhona was a bit quiet...but once we got into the stride of things she was off like a rocket..we soon settled down had a quick nossey at the sheep and avoided the puddles...when we came back from the walk and entered the paddock, she saw Lynne and her tail went mad....i think she just needs a bit of time to get to know you and then she will be your friend for life....
Rhona introduced new walkers Sophie and Carl to the joy of staffies
Poor littel girl looks so sad in her kennels but when you go in she just wants to be with you. Lots of cuddles for one and all and she shared our lunch in the pub garden. She is a very loving girl First thought was to grab our food but then realised a nice sit would work better

We walked Rhona for the second time today - (think Carl has a real soft spot for this delightful girl!) - she was so happy to see us. She was accompanied by Alfie the Lakeland Terrier and they got on very well. She is a very happy dog - still lots of puppy action but very well behaved and so affectionate - sits well for treats.
We had a few short runs too today which they both loved - all in all a lovely dog. Would make a fantastic pet for someone with time to spend with her to help her mature and give her the reassurance she seeks.
Rhona came home with Cooper today for her christmas holidays, on the way home we went into Bedfont Lakes dog walking area and let her off her lead. She was very responsive to humans but felt unsure with other dogs. She found all the dogs overbearing and stayed very close to my legs, Cooper did his best to show her what fun other dogs can be but she told him she needs more time.
When we got home she took a while to be calm and gave Cooper a few warnings but now she is lying on the floor next to Josie and Cooper warming by the fire.
I will post some pics tomorrow
