|
|
At last! Here are the recipes for the dog biscuits i make in case anyone wants to make some to raise funds (or for your own pooch if your stocks have run out!!)
Please understand that i am more of a chuck-it-all-in person than a recipe one so all quantities are rough!
The liver cake is Karen's recipe and is:
Lambs Liver - about your usual supermarket packet.
8oz self raising flour
1 clove of garlic or 1-2 teaspoons of dry garlic
1 egg (i usually include the whole egg-inc shell as it is good for them)
4 tablespoons of cooking oil
2 tablespoons of water/chicken stock
Liquidize the liver and then add egg, garlic, oil and water and whizz again.
In a separate bowl add the liver mixture to the flour (DO NOT add flour to liver as it does not work) Mix well.
Spread onto a greased baking tray and cook in the oven (180) until brown and cooked through. Cut into cubes when cool and freeze or keep in the fridge.
The biscuits are all made in the same way, with a basic dough and then add whatever ingredients you want.
Dough:
280g (10 oz) flour
50 g (2 oz) butter
1 whole egg (shell included!)
A couple of tablespoons of chicken stock (optional, could use water)
Mix the butter, egg and stock in a blender. put the flour on a board/work surface, make a well in the middle and pour the mixture into the well, add flavour (see below) and kneed well, adding more flour/chicken stock as necessary.Roll out and cut desired shaped and bake in the oven at 180 degrees for about 20 mins (depending on the thickness of the biscuit)
Flavours: I usually do chicken, salmon and cheese and bacon.
For the chicken, i usually put a whole chicken in a pot and boil until cooked then i whizz all of the meat in a blender and add a large handful (usually a third/quarter of the meat) to the dough.
Salmon, i just add a tin of salmon to the dough (simples!)
For the cheese and bacon, i add a handful of cooked, chopped (you can do this in the blender) bacon (about half a supermarket packet) and a handful of grated, mature cheese (about a third of a large packet of cheese).
I have some novelty cookie cutters which make them all look nice but you could also use kids playdough cutters (clean of course!)
I use these bags: http://www.lakeland.co.uk/celloph...ord/cellophane+bags/product/12007
I put about 80 g of biscuits per bag and tie with a bit of curling ribbon.

In recent tests 1 out of 1 dogs prefer Tina's salmon biscuits to Waitrose own brand.
She loves them - seem to know that they were for her when they were cooking. The whole house smells of salmon - and I'm going to open the windows to get rid of it. I'm convinced I can still smell it!!! Can't thank you enough though as Tara thinks Auntie Tina is very clever...
