Stanley is slowly finding his feet. He is eating well and slept all night. He was a little nervous when he was let out for a run this morning but Dilly walked around with him to start with and then he was happy to explore himself. Dilly is spending some extra time with him at the moment.

We had a short walk out this afternoon and because he is still slightly unsure of things, he was on his very best behaviour.

All in all, a lovely little man and I am looking forward to getting to know him better.

Stanley still hasn't totally settled and is still being very submissive. I am going to keep a very close eye on him over the next few days as I think he might have been a little hot today and his eye was slightly gungky - I am just hoping it is not the first signs of kennel cough Crying or Very sad

The good news is that he is still eating well and is starting to enjoy his walks. Just occassionally I get a glimpse of the cheeky little monkey I know is in there Wink

He has already sussed out that when we get back, there has to be a nice sit and then something good to play with and treats come out of the box in the kitchen. He also knows that they are only delivered once we get back to his kennel.

Out on our walks he is still not completely sure of himself and sticks very close by. If I call him he immediately rolls over and shows me his tummy. He has meet a couple of other dogs out on our walks and done very well.

I just hope he settles soon as I know there is a cheecky chappy in there - Janet is going to take him out on day next week, which I am sure will do him no end of good Exclamation

I had the real pleasure of taking Stanley out for a while today. He was a bit subdued and nervous to start with but that didn't last for long. He's very affectionate and loves being cuddled, squeezed, stroked and tickled. I think I spent a bit too much time doing this! Embarassed

He was very easy to walk on the lead and he stayed close by most of the time.
We had lunch in the car and he did get very excited when we saw another dog getting out of a car next to us. We saw a few other dogs on the common but didn't actually meet any face to face. We saw 2 rabbits and loads of birds and he took no notice at all.
I chatted with an elderly gentleman for a while and Stanley was happy to sit and wait until we'd finished. This dog has manners!
I think Stanley seemed to become more confident the more we walked. It won't be long before that cheeky terrier comes out.
It broke my heart when he kept standing at the kennel gate every time I went to leave Sad

After only knowing him for a few hours it's obvious to me that this little guy has so many good points - I have no doubt that some lucky people will find him soon.

Stanley clearly had a wonderful time out with Janet yesterday and was slightly disappointed with the drop in standard of service today - 'what do you mean, just a walk in the woods Shocked

Granted you brought two little playmates along and I do love children, but please, where is lunch Question

He really does have the most expressive little face and his eyes definitely talk to you. As I begin to get to know him, I can see that he has a quiet but steely determination - as he wanted to do some more today, he kept disappearing down to the gate and he tried sitting beautifully at it, he tried holding up his paw and he tried tilting his head beguilingly Rolling Eyes

He definitely does not like being shut in - if the door to his 'bedroom' is closed he destroys his bed, up turns his water bowl and has been sick. He has moved kennel again so the door can be left open but the rain cannot blow in. He is very sensible and happy to put himself to bed at night and go in, out of the rain. It does seem he is happy to potter about alone, but cannot deal with a shut door!

I can also see a trait in him similar to something I had to deal with in my own dog. Unless he has 100% confidence in his handler, he will reluctantly assume the role of leader. It is a responsibility he does not want or like but feels the need to take it on. Once he has taken on this role, he is unhappy and his behavior spirals downwards Crying or Very sad

Having been through it with my own dog (although it was hard to accept that that was the problem at first Embarassed

) I know that it is something that can so easily be overcome and can make a massive difference. I just know that the right person can do it for Stanley too Laughing

While we wait for that person, he will continue to have fun times out with Janet and walks with me (and both Janet and I will continue to fall deeper and deeper for him Wink

)

Stanley was out and about with Sammy75 this morning. As Spice was going out later, he had her all to himself - oops someone else to fall in love with him Wink

For the first time today I felt like Stan the Man has settled and is feeling happier about the world generally Laughing

He is still 'subdued' but nowhere near as much. He is such fun to spend time with and to watch. After our walk today I was talking to Dilly as she did Stanley's kennel and he pushed the gate open and spent ages just trotting about between the two paddocks. He kept reappearing and sitting beautifully at my feet - I would like to think it was me but I actually know he was after more liver cake Rolling Eyes

Such a lovely, lovely boy who just needs to take his confidence from his handler.

Stan the Man was definitely a different dog from the one I took out last week. He was much more confident, interested in everything going on around him and he even pulled on the lead - just a bit. He also had quite few admirers today and enjoyed being made a fuss of. I love spending time with him - he's got such a lot to give.

I had trouble taking photos of Stan the Man today as he wouldn't keep still for long enough. I don't know how I managed to catch him winking! Lovely boy.

Stanley has been on such good form this week, I was suprised to find him a little subdued this morning. He enjoyed his walk out with Julia earlier in the week and behaved very well. If she invaded his space too much he had a little grumble but that was it.

This morning he was very sluggish and at one point was dragging his feet behind me. We diverted out of the woods and onto a road in the sun and he perked up a little (perhaps he is terrier x repile and needs the warmth of the sun to get him going on these colder mornings Wink

)

I couldn't see any visable signs that there was anything wrong, so hopefully he will return to his old self Confused

Stanley had a lovely walk this afteroon He, like Tia, ate a lot of grass, had a lot of smells, hardly any wees and didn't pull at all. We didn't meet any dogs. A really pleasant autumn afternoon at a leisurely pace.
