How lucky are we - what a little gem Woody is He has the head and coat of a JRT and the legs and body of a Dachshund - an incredible mix
He sat on the passenger seat with me today and after snuffling out every treat that was left lying around, including those in my pocket he settled in and was lovely company on the journey.
He does look underfed and could do with putting on some weight and his coat could be better but we will get there
He is going off to the vets tomorrow with Lynne so that he can have a thorough check over.
Not the best photo in the world but better than the one we have already -

Well strange one Woody was neutered about 3 weeks ago; about 2 weeks before he went into the pound! His frontlegs are a little strange but our vet checked them and said they were related to growth plate malfunction when he was a puppy. He is well adjusted so nothing to do. His coat is in poor condition; he needs a 'spar! He has broken teeth but not worth touching. His ears had crusting which I've managed to break off so they feel healthier now. I put my hand in and out of his food bowl to add more with not a flicker or a flinch..so haven't witnessed 'food possessiveness but he is hungry even that not over the top.
Incredible character, makes little noises and will bark on occassion but not excessive. ..in need of a loving, caring family
It's a molehole Woody!

I really thought he was entire
Did the vet give a guesstimate on his age?

Hard to say his age; the crusting on the ears usually relates to extremes of temperature..life outside. He has had a hard life. At least 6-7 yrs old but he wasn't microchipped so no indicator there either.

Why would somebody pay out to have him neutered, and then let him stray and end up in the local dog pound? Does anyone have any information on how and why he came to be in the pound?

I wonder if he's been through rescue already, and got lost again?

Where ever this lovely boy has been, he has been trained - his kennel was very clean, one small corner used for toilet, he sat beautifully at the kitchen door, waiting to go out and did his business as soon as we hit the woods. On our return, he carefully placed his toy and chew in his bed before coming back to have his treat. All very neat and tidy
Do not read 'elderly' for 'dodery' though. He loved his walk and was very interested in everything
A little bundle of joy

Woody is a little dog that will really make you smile. Just watching him trotting along, you can see that he's happy, confident and interested in everything going on around him. He's certainly got plenty of get up and go, but is very easy to walk. We saw squirrels and a deer today on our walk and he was interested but didn't make a mad dash to investigate - he stood and watched for a while though. His kennel was immaculate again when we collected him. He must have been holding everything in cos I've never known a dog to cock his leg as much as Woody did today. He loves his treats, sits perfectly for them and takes them gently. He was a real pleasure to be with.

We had a lovely walk with Woody and Tegan today. He likes company and I think he would have been happy to have more attention from Tegan than he got! We walked near a road and he took no notice of the traffic. There was also an army exercise in the woods today and he wasn't bothered at all. He likes being made a fuss of and loves his treats. He's a real character.

Woody is now with me, Ian and our Molly. He's is an absolute comedian; he really makes me laugh with his odd little walk and his unbelievable enthusiasm for everything. Molly not massively impressed at the moment; she keeps pushing him out of the way,and looking at me to say 'What is HE doing here??'. Am going to leave them to it to establish the rules, and only intervene if really necessary. He is a total delight!

So, so pleased for Woody - he had a long walk out with Tegan today so hopefully will settle in a nice warm bed tonight - what a lovely thought
Thank you, Sally - I am sure he will pay his way in entertainment value

I've never met such a funny dog; he is currently sleeping on Ian's chest on the couch with his bottom hanging over the edge!

Woody is doing very well. He has really settled in; very relaxed and confident. I think he must have had a male owner as he is devoted to Ian. He and Molly haven't had any incidents so far, and seem to be getting on fine. They both eat together and respect each other's space. He loves other dogs; trotted over to meet an enormous Rottie today, no fear at all. He is hilarious; he loves his football and keeps trying to lift it into his bed. He started growling at it because it wasn't cooperating!!
Bit of a nasty cough today, so off to the vets tomorrow.

Have been thinking about Woody today - hope everything is OK. He made such an impression in his short time with us, everybody is asking after him.

He had some bad coughing this morning, but has been absolutely fine all day, even with three long walks. He desperately tries to keep up with Molly who races around the woods with her long Whippet/Lurcher legs!
Will sort out pics for tomorrow,

He is doing fine now, cough has almost gone. He is so easy going and good-natured (apart from when he thinks it's time for a walk and gets totally overexcited!!). Incredibly cute and very bright (he has realised that if he stands near Molly when she has her Kong, he can steal biscuits from it before she realises!!). Will definitely send pics as soon as I have figured out how to do it!!
