the magic of staffiesA close friend and colleague was covering my dog duties whilst I was off sick. As soon as i arrived back at work, she told me about the 2 unclaimed strays we had in.Both out of time, and therefore both in imminent danger of pts if I couldn't secure a rescue place
One was a purebred staffie bitch, hysterical and reactive in kennels and showing symptomatic scarring.bait dog?
The other was a lab/staff/? bitch, very quiet. both young
We went to assess them.
She asked if I would let her have the full bred staffie, took on board all I said about not being able to take her back, possible separation anxiety and probable dog aggression.
She wanted that one she said because the dog needed to be out of kennels, and it would be really hard to find her a rescue place
(spare kennel places in August - easier to find a snowflake in Hell)
We did the usual checks, but as she'd been found tied up, there was no real chance of her owner coming forward.
Already she is loved by the extended family, her idiosyncracies forgiven or worked round. Her presence is deeply positive and calming . I heard the expression "the dog keeps me sane" the other day.
Not bad for a dog dismissed as disposable rubbish by a previous uncaring owner.
Sometimes, the most special dogs are the staffies.
And yes, I found a rescue place for the other girlie, too
