Stan - Border Collie (Furry Friends) Old Coulsdon, Surrey

Please meet Stan...

He is a Border Collie of about 7 years old and is due to arrive on Saturday. He is coming in from a Welsh dog pound and was due to be put to sleep on Monday (two days later).

Stan was picked up as a stray and never claimed and being an older boy was finding difficulty being placed in any rescue.

He is good with other dogs and will be assessed with cats and small animals.

Stan will be neutered, fully vaxed and microchipped before he leaves our care.

Awww bless him he looks so lost.
Hope he finds a really lovely home.
Karenn

Aw bless him. He is so sweet - all the best for him x

7's not old for a collie, he's just nicely matured. Fingers crossed for you sweetheart

Stan has now been reserved to go to a new home once neutered, vaxed and chipped. He should be going on Saturday. Smile

Great news for Stan - those collies just fly out the door don't they.
EmmaSemple

Change of plan. Sad

After a very intense assessment tonight, I am going to have to phone the new potential owners tomorrow and say that we will have to find them something else.

Stan is an adorable dog with people and other dogs, but a nightmare with other smaller animals. The new owners don't have any other pets themselves, but did say that their neighbours have a cat who goes into their garden. This cat would not be safe with Stan about and if he really wanted to, could get into the neighbours garden to get to it.

Stan is being neutered and chipped tomorrow

The people are still interested regardless of the above and are coming to see Stan on Saturday. Smile

Oh goody - how exciting.

Everything crossed.   Very Happy

Stan's new owners have decided against adopting him now due to the next door neighbour having a cat.

So, although he is feeling a tad sorry for himself tonight being that he has been neutered, he is now, once again, looking for a new home.

Met Stan today and he is nothing like his picture. A friendly lad as you pass his kennel and not old looking at all.  He enjoyed his jog and was your typical collie but with a determined his eye on those chickens! Didn't seem a high energy dog but hard to tell in such a short time and only limited circumstances.

Stan has come on leaps and bounds since arriving here.
To start with he was very neurotic with the cats and small animals. We are still working with him on his cat manners, but he finally stopped chasing the smaller caged animals and instead of living partly in a crate (when people are out the room) and partly wandering about, he is now living as part of the pack and not showing the small animals any interest at all (this includes rabbits, ferrets, rats, chichillas etc) and he has been safely desensitised. I am sure that soon he will accept cats too. Smile

Today Stan was allowed into the same room as the cats and he showed a little interest but was more focussed on finding food!

Would the potential home be back in the picture if he settles with cats?
Dee Peter

The neighbours cat is old by the sounds of it and they were concern about the cat being able to escape quickly if the dog was to chase.  Might be worth speaking with them Emma as the man was disappointed after seeing and reading the info on him I gave them.  Had a quick chat only the other day as I wasn't sure if it was my neighbour you had contacted.
EmmaSemple

I wouldn't say it is 100% yet, but it is controllable. For example, he forgot himself earlier and barked a rabbit a bit, but when I called him in, he came in immediately.

My problem now is getting him OUT of the crate! Even if the door is open, he lays in there and sleeps and at night time when the pups have to go to bed I have to literally drag him out of there!!!

Is Stan still with you Emma?
EmmaSemple

Yes. Currently being fostered by Rachel at work.
He is a good boy in the home and very relaxed. He also loves his walks but is not an 'over the top' collie.

I met gorgeous Stan yesterday, if a dog could smile, he was smiling!  He just kept catching my eye and smiling at me!  No jumping, no anxious behaviour, just a grounded, stable dog, such a wonderful, dependable character.  He is so balanced I just couldn't understand what he was doing there in fact I just assumed he was one of Emma's he was so calm  Smile

Stan has now been adopted by Rachel at work. He is part of my gang during the week (shares a kennel with them), lives in with Rachel during the evening and her days off and has lots of one to one at the weekends. I have heard that he misses the Semple gang at the weekend and barks alot!  Laughing

My son Alex will be pleased - he has a soft spot for Sam.

Met Stan on Saturday and was surprised because I thought by judging from his photo that he was an older boy!  Lovely young lad, very pretty 'inthe fur' and super friendly  Very Happy

Good news for Stan

When I collected Spot nearly 2 months ago, Stan was sitting in Emma's van with Conker. I felt really mean that I couldn't take him home with Spot that day so I'm so pleased that he's found the right home at last. He is a smashing dog.
