STAFFY CROSSESWe're currently dogless and my husband has said, since Teddy was PTS, 'no dogs again - ever!' which dismayed me tremendously but I've kept quiet as I'm still hoping to get a dog gain when I retire. Hopefully his attitude will have softened by then.
This afternoon we went to the car boot sale at Chichester cattle market and as we parked the car, OH said to me'that's a nice little dog over there, it looks like a Jack Russel cross'. And I immediately commented that at least one of its parents must have been a Staffie so I told my husband i was going straight over to ask if I could make a fuss of the dog.
Dog was a Staffie/Jack Russell cross; a delightful dog who loved all the attention I was giving and as we went back to the car I was most surprised when my husband remarked that 'that dog has a lovely temperament'. He's always said he doesn't like Jack Russels and he knows I love Staffies, so here's hoping that when I retire he may change his mind and decide we can have a dog sfter all - and I'd like a Staffie.
Anybody on this forum got any ideas on how I can persuade my husband that a Staffie or a Staffie cross might be the dog for us? He now is aware that Staffie types just LURVE people so there's hope there....!

We recently rehomed a staffie cross (The Moog from Furry Friends - now called Mabel) after our lurcher died. We have two terriers as well. My husband kept saying - let's not rush to get another dog, why not wait, maybe just stick with two etc etc. Anyway, we got Mabel - who he hadnt met - and she, like most staffies is just SO affectionate and SO endearing that he was smitten. She is so loving to him, he is of course flattered so his heart was won from the start! That's the brilliant thing with staffies they win you over without you even realising it!!

Ummm - I hope my husband never sees this thread!!!
I waited from Sep to Jan when I lost my first dog and have never been so miserable. Hubby kept saying no, then saying he wasn't ready. My girlfriends told me "for god sake go and get one and stop moping"! So that night I gave my hubby an ultimatum ... I said that I was going to get another dog, but would really welcome his feedback on the right type of dog to go for and I was giving him the opportunity to do that. If he didn't then that was fine too. He would just find some humongous, long haired drooling beast sitting in his kitchen (not me)! Glad to say, that with guidance, my hubby made the right decision.

When my parents first married, dad never wanted dogs. Mum talked him round, and two terrier crosses (3-4 weeks old) were soon destroying the garden. After 15 years, these two girls unfortunately passed away, and we got Tee-J from Terrier Rescue...
The man who never wanted dogs was the first to fall in love. This man goes out running with his boy. They curl up on the sofa together when we're out.
So basically, I would try and encourage him to get one - more likely than not he'll be in love within 30 minutes!

As soon as I'm retired and at home full-time, I will start working on OH for a dog again. Whilst I'm working it just isn't practical.
But my OH knows exactly how I feel about dogs...having had to have my last one PTS around the same time as I had a stroke myself, I do miss the stress-busting therapy of having a dog to walk so that's the angle I'll be working on with OH.
In the meantime, I'm just here in the background watching and occasionally contributing to the forum.
