Sophie 15 yrs Tea-cup Yorkie

Sweet Sophie has sadly flown to heaven...sadly for us. Sophie knew love and despite a period when her owner died and she must have been confused -she then was taken into her loving family, home and into loving hearts. Bless her

Her thread is below with tributes at the end

Sophie's owner has died and her daughter has been trying to get a rescue to be there for Sophie but alas.  We have committed to her and will take as soon as possible as she is currently living in the empty house (familar and better than kennels) and being fed and walked from there.

Hi, I wld like to give Sophie a home.  I have 2 ten year old Yorkies and 1 who is 7.  We are all rather docile and reasonably quiet, no children here only 2 adults in Bedfordshire.
xxlynne

Katiedog completed a questionnaire and as she had already been homechecked...flew to take little Sophie into a caring setting.  Sophie is fostered with the view to homing.

Hi Lynne and Dee

I picked up Sophie this afternoon at about 4.30 from Bexley, Kent.  She didn't enjoy the car journey at all (one and a half hours) and was very stressed out by it all, very restless and crying now and then...

She is not in very good condition, she is very thin, her eyes STILL look sore to me and caked up   plus her ears also need attention as they look very black inside, her fur is matted and the fur on her back is sparse, altho I was told she has more fur now than she had 15 mths ago when this lady first had her from a kennels!.  She is deaf and has little eyesight - this has improved slightly by trimming the fur round her eyes.  The daughter said her teeth were fine but Sophie hasn;t got many left  .  I was told they believed she is about 16yrs old (not 18 yrs) but I will try and get previous medical history as far back as possible.  She's drinking a lot of water so may have kidney problems.

My other dogs are okay with her so far.  Sophie has been wandering around the bungalow continuously since we got home at 6.30 this evening so she's been on the go for about 4 hours non stop.  Sophie didn't want the food supplied by the daughter (some tinned muck) but wolfed down the cooked chicken I gave her at 9.00pm  (very late meal but she was so stressed, to have given it earlier might have resulted in bringing it back up...)

I will get more eye ointment for her asap which was supposedly administered mid November (its the same stuff as my little Judy had to have recently) and hopefully will be able to get more of the caked stuff off which is just below her eyes tomorrow but it will be a long job and will have to be done in stages as she is not keen on her eyes being bathed and again gets stressed - more little mite, plus cut off more of the matted fur from her legs.

Sophie little darling is now receiving love and caring Smile

Update on SOPHIE not 18yrs old. She is 14 and a half

Thought you'd like an update on this wonderful little yorkie.  She's having 3 meals a day to try and get her up to a reasonable weight.  Believe she used to be used for breeding then was rehomed when too old. New owner's dogs pestered her so she started snapping at them and therefore rehomed yet again to the woman who died who didn't look after her very well. Sophie had a flee infestation which was left untreated by this owner and lost a lot of her fur on her back.  Makes me so angry that people are so ignorant.
Although I've only had Sophie for 3 days she's showing improvement already and allowing her little face and eyes to be bathed - there's a lot of crusting to get rid of and it will take a lot of bathing.

Sophie is off to the vets on Saturday to have her claws clipped, her ears  and eyes checked (she has cataracts but eyes look sore) plus a urine sample analysed as she's drinking a lot and her mouth looks too pink (red really! )  Managed to get medical history from previous vets faxed to my vet- 14 pages supplied but I've yet to see them.

I hope to post a photo of her in about another week's time and you will not recognise her as the poor little mite in the photo first shown on the forum of Yorkiegirl.

Oh joy...she must be getting a sense that she has arrived into a safe, caring and loving family

She's having drops for her eyes and will have to visit the vets again to have her teeth done  (in about 14 days time).

My other yorkies are giving her no bother at all and with 3 meals a day hopefully she'll soon put on weight  as she's so thin at present. Sad[size=18]

I'll try and get a closer pic posted soon

SOPHIE

Hi,  Sophie had her blood analysed today and the vet said that considering her age the results were remarkable and only a little below usual reading regarding her liver.  She'll be having her teeth descaled & chipped on 15 feb plus investigation of the growth over her left eye.  Sophie's weight hasn't improved yet, can't understand it really when she's on 3 good sized meals a day.  However she seems to be happier and not so quick to bite when she's touched Rolling Eyes .  I'll give another update after 15th Feb.

Had to share this  photo of Sophie as her eyes look so much better now
Sorry about all the background - not much good with the camera Rolling Eyes

Pamela called and shared news of sophie.  She is doing so well with the TLC treatment she continues to receive and enjoy fromher packmembers.

Sophie is going to the vets on Friday for a dental under GA.  I'm sure she will do very well and her little system will receive a kick start once her teeth are cleaned and any needing out removed.  Have special thoughts for her as I know Pamela is worried so it will help them both through their day.
katiedog

Sophie

Sophie had to be taken to an emergency vet at 1.00am this morning.  She has had 3 teeth removed and the growth above her left eye was in fact an abcess which has been lanced.

I collected Sophie at 5.00pm today after her op. She was still very groggy from the anaesthetic and slept for a while on reaching home.  Her breathing was very laboured and it appeared to me that she had fluid in her lungs.  As time went on she became very restless, pacing the floor.  At about 10.00 Sophie's breathing was very noisy and she started whining and didn't seem to know where she was, and didn't want anything to eat or drink.  She steadily got worse.

She is now being kept overnight at the emergency vets, been given pain killers and oxygen and I'm very concerned about her.  I'm to ring the vet at 8.00am this morning to find out how she is but things are not looking very good at the moment Crying or Very sad .

To all those who read this please give Sophie your positive thoughts  which she desparately needs to help her get through this night.

Thankyou.
xxlynne

Come on Sophie..summon all your strength..you have come so far..we love you and are with you

Just spoken to Pamela.

Pamela has spoken to the vet this morning and Sophie has come through night ok.

They are hoping to pick her up later this afternoon 3 - 4 pm and Pamela will update us all after this.

Please keep sending positive thoughts to this lovely little lady xx

Update on Sophie

Sophie is still not out of the woods.

The vet has said she's drinking but not eating, although her breathing has improved and they have now given her extra warmth via a heatlamp.

Sophie has to stay at the vets for further monitoring overnight.

Its very worrying that she's not eating as there's nothing of her now and she hasn't gained any weight during the few weeks I've had her despite increasing her meals to four during the last week  (fed about every 4 hours throughout the day).

Your hopes and healing thoughts are still required please.

Thankyou, Dee, John & Lynne for your kind words for Sophie.
katiedog

Sorry, and thanks to Dee Peter...............

SOPHIE IS HOME!!

I collected Sophie from the emergency vets practice this afternoon (Sunday).  She now appears to be back to her normal self although she has lost weight, about half a pound (.25kgs) which is a lot for a yorkie to lose.  But I'm so pleased and relieved she is now ok.

Was it the right decision to put Sophie thru this trauma and pain Question .  I still think it had to be done as now her life (hopefully) is going to be so much better with no threat of the growth (abscess) being detrimental to what little sight she has left annnnnd  I hope she finds her food more tasty Laughing   (Mind you, OH've pocket is considerably lighter Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes ...)

Thank you all for your thoughts and words for Sophie.
Dee Peter

You must be so pleased to have Sophie back home with you all.  So pleased to hear she's out of the woods now and can recover back home with you all where she belongs - mum's normally know whats best! All the best for a speedy recovery Sohpie. x

Sophie update

Took Sophie back to the vets this morning as I'm still not satisfied with her breathing and her eye infection has returned Sad

It has become apparent that Sophie has no sight in her left eye and a little sight in her right.  She was keeping her right eye closed this morning so she was bumping into everthing - very stressful for the little mite.

She has been prescribed Furesmide tabs to hopefully clear her lungs completely and Fucithalmic eye ointment twice a day .  After 5/7 days on the med. everything should be okay again(fingers crossed).

Its a case of two steps forward and one step back at the moment.

One good thing coming out of so many trips to the vet is that she's steadily getting used to car travel Rolling Eyes  AND  although her wgt went down from 3.45 to 3.25 over the weekend because of her op and stress, she's gained  0.15kg since Sunday so that's good too. Smile .
xxlynne

One thing is clear Sophie couldn't have had better love and care in her old age. Sweet love you will soon be out the other side and enjoying the garden in the spring

SOPHIE 15 YR OLD

Hi,  I've given an update on Sophie but posted it in the wrong section ... Introduce yourself and Dogs  I think its called.  Shld it be moved or is it alright where it is?  Sorry to be a pain.

Regards, Pam

SOPHIE TODAY AGED 15 yrs

Sophie was 15 yrs old on 25th July.  She has athritis in her back legs which makes her fall over sometimes but she's up again as quick as a wink!

Sophie is having breathing problems and has to have Prednisolone (steroid which reduces any swelling etc) twice a day to help her breath a bit better.  It wld need an x-ray and possibly an endoscope to find out what is wrong but vets think anesthetic might be too much for Sophie and an operation wld probably be the end of her   so no point in putting her thru X-ray really

Sophie has very good days and others that makes me believe she's nearing the end  but... she bounces back again, a real llittle fighter.

She still has a very good appetite and enjoys her walks (and a carry  )
plus is still very vocal when she wants attention (usually at 2.00am in the morning  )

Best wishes to all.  Pam

SOPHIE - SAD NEWS

I posted some news regarding Sophie on Tuesday but now have to tell you that her breathing difficulties escalated on Wednesday evening and was taken to the vet at 6.10pm.  Sophie was given an injection to try and open her bronchial tubes and improve her breathing.  A little improvement and she slept for a while but on waking at about 10.00pm that evening, again she was struggling to breath properly, pacing about and stretching her neck.  I took her to an emergency vet at 2.00 in the morning but vet said Sophie cldn't have further medication and indeed semmed a little better for whatever reason - her fighting spirit.  However, Thursday morning and Sophie still distressed I decide to bite the bullet and have an X-ray done.

Sophie had a large growth which was pressing against her windpipe.  Vet thought that to put her thru an op wld be cruel considering her age and the discomfort she already suffered with the severe arthritis in her back legs and the pain of recovering from op if indeed she pulled through which was very doubtful.

Well I cldn't cause her any more pain and whilst she was under anaesthetic for X-ray took the decision to let her go.  Poor little Sophie.

I took Sophie to the Cambridge Pet Crematorium on Saturday morning for a private cremation and have her ashes in a casket now.

I did my best as did Sophie..................................Run free little girl, the brightest star in the sky

She is thanking you now for always doing the right thing for her.  My thoughts are with you Katie, so sorry.

Katiedog's entry

My heart is aching for you little Sophie and although you always tried to bite me when bathing your eyes every other day I loved you to bits.  You tried so hard to overcome your difficulties, having little sight, being deaf and having severe arthritis in your back legs.  But the growth pressing against your windpipe couldn't be cured without you suffering even more so I said goodbye to you on Thursday at 12.55pm 14 August 08.

RIP my lovely little angel.
