Ruby Jack Russell 06 08 Wokingham

Her Story: Ruby was accidently run over by her owners on Friday 15th May. They took her to the vet the next day.  They were told they were facing a vet bill  of min £1500 as on Xray she had compound fracters to hip and pelvis. They could not afford this so paid for put to sleep.  The practise got £700 from the RSPCA towards the op. We have given £200 and other funds are being raised within the practise. Ruby had a 4 hour operation by an orthopaedic surgeon on Wednesday 20th May in Worthing. She is now resting and will be given hydro therapy and gentle rehab for a week. She is then coming to Terrier Rescue for us to find her her home.

Ruby is now ready to come into foster  Laughing
Jilly Allen

Picked up lovely Ruby today. She is a sweet little girl and travelled very well all the way from Gravesend. She can walk around but must not go up steps or jump up on chairs so we will have to keep a good eye on her.

She has healed quicker than expected and the vet is very happy with her progress.

Will do photos as soon as possible so everyone can see how cute she is. I think we will go swimming next week with Rex so that should be interesting.
Jilly Allen

Little Ruby had a good night. She sleeps in her large crate so she does not wander around too much. She has met my 3 other dogs today and one by one they all got on very well. The others know to give her space and she only walks on a lead with me so she is safe from being bumped.

She is a lovely little girl very good with people and other dogs. She seems very happy when you think what she has been through.

She loves finding the sun ray coming through the window and positioning her little body on the floor in it.

She is walking around the house with the 3 others. She must not get on chairs or go down steps as it would hurt her repairs so I keep a very close eye on her.

She uses her leg it just looks stiff as she walks, but much better than I thought it might be. Lovely girl.

Ruby, beautifully captured by Jilly ...

My new pack - glad to have broken the black and white theme that was going on here  Wink Small is beautiful!

Ruby has had a bad tummy so spend several days in the vets whilst her foster mum was away, just to make sure all was well.  Jilly sent this email yesterday..

Quote:
Just picked Ruby up from vets. Much better they still think she had an allergic reaction to painkillers. Think she will not need anymore so hopefully will now make a full recovery. Is on some other medicine to help her tummy.

Ruby (JRT) in her foster home with Evie.  Evie has just found her forever home.  Let's hope it's not long before Ruby does too!

xxlynne

A slightly closer look at our Ruby  Embarassed !

She is now 1 month post injury and today is 4 weeks post surgery. She is doing so well and so happy being with Jill and family in foster.

As she had her injury at 11 months I think we can say its Happy Birthday Ruby time occasion6
Jilly Allen

Little Ruby is getting stronger every day and has even gone swimming. She was not sure to start off with but got into the swing of it after a few lengths. She really is a beautiful little dog. Very friendly and loves lying next to you on the settee which she still has to be picked up for. She loves the other dogs and is living happily with 3 others and a visiting German shepherd !!!

It will be a little while before we can spay her as she has to make a full recovery from her car accident but once healed and op'd she will be ready for her forever home. If you are looking for a loving lap dog with bags of personality she is perfect for you. She sleeps in a crate at night still to guarantee no leg banging and is very happy to snuggle down each night, however, she cannot wait to be loose and running around like a normal dog.

She is a perfect sweetie without any faults. A great addition to anyone's family.

It's a hard life at the "Jilly Allen Residence"!  They get afternoon tea and get to go swimming!

PS That's not Jilly in the spandex!

Ruby

Ahh she looks so relaxed in the pool, her facial expression is so different from the first pictures at the beginning of this thread.

Such a pretty girl love7
Jilly Allen

Poor little Ruby seems to go from one catastrophe to another. Having gone through all she has yesterday while I was gardening she I and another of my dogs all got stung by wasps who were sleeping close by. Luckily I had gloves on so I could get them off straight away.

She has been quiet today feeling sorry for herself poor little mite.

Off to the vets again tomorrow. I think the poor young man thinks I am after him we go so often. She has a scratchy bit on her back not related to wasps that she keeps scratching so I think we need something to soothe it.

I feel so sorry for little Ruby but we will get her big and strong very soon and all recovered.

Still building her leg up and soon to be spayed. Poor soul just another op and bother to go through - what a life !!! But she does know she is loved and has 4 foster or visiting doggy friends who adore her.
Jilly Allen

Two weeks of great health for the lovely Ruby. It is probably now we have turned the corner and she is a strong fit dog again.

So tomorrow she gets spayed and micro chipped. I swear she knows as she keeps looking at me. The good thing is she did not come into season before we had the chance to spay and she is very fit for her op.

Love this little girl so much, she is so loving. Loves to sit on your lap at every opportunity, loves her other pack of 4 dogs, loves people.

She is a little treasure. Cries when you leave her but soon fine again and never damages anything just very attached to her family.
astralhaze

Good luck with your op tomorrow Ruby
Jilly Allen

Picked up all went well. Sleepy upstairs having a bit of quiet time. Pack welcomed her back with lots of sniffing.

All healthy and well now thank goodness. Micro chipped and vacinating on check up day.
xxlynne

Oh so freedom at last...now a full future ahead Sweet one.

Glad it's done and foster mummy can relax with relief!  Very Happy

Wink Definitely a hard life  Wink
Jilly Allen

Poor Ruby is post op and needs extra loving. We would never normally treat her like this !!!

The lovely Ruby receiving well deserved care from all concerned. Went for check up today and all is well. At last just her jabs now.
Sharonr - Admin

At least now she is ready for her forever home and all the medical stuff is over with  Very Happy
Jilly Allen

Ruby had her jabs yesterday and apart from a booster in 2 weeks time we really are now finished medically with everything - paws crossed.

Cannot say how much I love this little girl. She is the sweetest loving dog anyone could ever want. She loves to be loved and loves her pack of friends. The hardest one to hand back but we will because I know someone out there needs the love of this special little gift of a dog.

She had a rotten start to life but now she is going to have the best of life.

One lucky family out there is going to be blessed with one gorgeous little girl.
Jilly Allen

Ruby has her whole life a head of her now thanks to a very kind lady who saved her life. Thanks to that lovely lady I have had 3 months of absolute joy with her. A more beautiful, loving, amazing dog you could not find.

I love her sooooooooooo much and she is such a good girl -  all positive loving energy will follow her from now on.

Thank goodness for her saviour Steph and all the other people who find these little souls, no matter what their circumstances are, for every broken promise to a dog there are those who mend them.

Ruby my beautiful girl nothing but love will surround her now.
Sharonr - Admin

Ummmmm ... just know, out of them all, this little girl has got truly under her fosterers skin. When she is homed, Jilly will always watch over her from a distance - what a lovely angel for Ruby to have Smile

Ruby is going to meet a very interested family with Jilly on Friday
Jilly Allen

Changed to Saturday due to family circumstances -  mine not theirs.

Will update later
Jilly Allen

As new interested family have a dog already meeting is now arranged at our house Friday evening. Need to have a time when all my big dogs can be out with their dad as their dog has been attacked by a big dog and it would be terrified if it saw big dogs in the house.

Will update on Fri evening how all goes.

No matter what Ruby has a forever place  here for her until perfect and I mean perfect home comes along. Dee as usual does perfect placing. Hats off to her and all the hard vetting and work she does. As a foster it makes the parting with these lovely dogs so much easier when she chooses so well.
Jilly Allen

Sadly Ruby's interested new family never came to see her. They decided to not go ahead and meet her. It is better they decide that now than later.

Ruby will stay with us for now. She had her bath today and is looking all pretty. Pack very happy she is staying. I think she keeps making this happen so she does not have to leave her dog pals.
Sharonr - Admin

Ummm, me thinks her foster mum is not too sad about it either  Wink
Jilly Allen

Foster mum did have major problem with not homing Rubes as going on holiday end of week and homing looked very positive. Luckily I have  wonderful older foster mum.

So now in a very busy week, Ruby, Dylan and I are off to their holiday home in Devon with my mum. They have just had her here for months so they all get on great and will love to see Evie again. All 3 slept on her bed here.

Evie my mums dog, my ex foster and sister to Dylan, has settled in beautifully with mum in Devon. Several walks every day  and loads of new doggie friends. It will be funny to see how she reacts to her pack returning to her.

Ruby is gorgeous and packing her sunglasses as I write.
xristine

@Jilly - goodness, you had no need to worry. She'd have been welcomed here for a week but having seen the quality of her present home I think she'd have refused. I can't provide indoor swimming lessons for a start!
Shocked

TBH I've thought about turning myself in for fostering at your place...

Have a good holiday little Ruby and you too Jilly! Razz
karen

Laughing What a gorgeous day for going off to the coast. Hope you all enjoy yourselves catching up with Evie.  Laughing
xxlynne

Seems to me all our dogs are having holidays and ruby is no exception. She is in the car currently due to arrive in Devon soon. She has a lovely family waiting for her once Jilly gets back from her holiday. Laughing
Jilly Allen

Went to Devon on Sunday to reunite with Ruby and Dylan. They both had a great 2 weeks with mum.

Drove back on Wed and dropped off in Dorset to see the most lovely couple who run a wonderful farm with all manner of waifs and strays they have adopted.

Really lovely meeting them and Ruby was very excited to look around and meet everyone.

Cat met, sniffed her nose and off she went not a flicker. She is quite interested in the chickens but I am sure New mum will sort that out.

Miss her like crazy already. She is the most beautiful loving dog. Now living with 2 big dogs, 3 cats, 1 horse, 1 pony, sheep, chickens foxes badgers and rabbits.

Ruby's life started terribly but as I always new has finished with the biggest happiest ending she so deserved.

Love you sweetheart always and there will always be a place for you in our hearts. Happy happy ending and Happy happy new beginnings!!!
Sharonr - Admin

Well done Jilly!  Tears of joy and tears that she has gone for you I bet.  What a service you did for that little dog.  Everything crossed for her future and what a wonderful part of the world for her to settle in.  Sounds perfect.
xxlynne

Sparkling Ruby what an interesting life ahead of you. You will always be very special to us..have lots of fun.
xxlynne

Ruby decided that despite a wonderful family...her Ruby heart was in The Crown Jewels of her pack...

Jill has collected her and everyone is blissfully happy and content.
xristine

Not at all surprised.

Very Happy

Very best wishes to Jilly and little Ruby for a long and happy life together. She's where she needs to be...

Wink

Laughing I do like happy endings - or maybe that should be happy beginings Laughing
Jilly Allen

I just want to say a more perfect home could not have been found for Ruby than the one I took her to in Dorset. In fact I want to be adopted by this lovely couple but a very strange thing happened.

I got home wed cried my eyes out - yes I have shed a tear over all my foster dogs but I felt someone had pulled my heart out.

Valda new mum the following day told me when I phoned to check on her that she had escaped for 2 hours thanks to a TV man leaving gate and door open. She then went on to say she felt Ruby was bereft and grieving and had gone off looking for me.

She said she could easily keep her and work with her but if I felt the same way she felt she was my dog and I should come and get her unless I didn't feel the same.

Anyone who has followed Ruby knows that was it. Tears of joy and alot of "are you sure".

Valda and Hugh are probably one of the nicest couples I have ever met. They have taken every animal in and loved and kept them. How lucky was I that Valda could say we do what is best for the animal Jill.

Amazing she also said all 3 of us had learnt something, me I have connected with Ruby in a way I have never done before. Valda that it is still too soon after the loss of her beloved Jess and Ruby that mum will never leave her.

I would place every dog we have with this couple they are perfect but thank goodness they saw something I had tried to overcome.

In the past when Rubys homes have fallen through I had said to Dee I would keep her but something would always come along to change that. Now unless you have a vice to pry us apart we are her forever home. Big surprise eh!!!

To everyone and again especially Steph and Valda and Hugh we will take very good care of our Ruby.

Failed fosterer - happily successful mum most definitely.

And Valda I am going to be making that car journey again when we find or as Valda says when the female JRT finds them, to take her dog to her forever home. RR take note I am on a mission.
xristine

Sometimes the connection is much easier to see from the outside. Sometimes we get 'picked' by dogs when actually we don't mean to be. In my experience those relationships turn out to be the most precious. Wink

psst Jilly. There's Tegan... don't forget Tegan... she looks adorable. Tell Valda about Tegan...  She's a real little live wire. Very Happy

Chuffed to bits for you Jilly.  Was clear for all to see just how much of a guardian angel you were to Rubes.  Glad you are staying together  Very Happy
PatE

oh bless! Ruby was obviously yours. It touched my heart reading how you both came to realise it *hugs*
newforestdweller

Th perfect home for her Jilly. When I saw her at your house, she fitted in so well.

I was not offering the sort of life she needed, but even so she seemed so perfectly at ease, I would have hared to disturb her. The two of you worked so seamlessly together. Very Happy

You did a fantastic job of matching me to Cerys. We suit each other down to the ground. Mainly mud today though.

Thank you for all the lovely things you said about me on her thread. I am flattered Laughing
Jilly Allen

Just an update to say we could not be happier with our Ruby.

I never wanted a JRT could not see what people saw in them and am now completely converted  to this lovely breed of dog.

She is a tiny dog in a massive personality. Charges around the fields with her 2 faithful companions as though she never had a thing wrong with her. Remembering the days when she was crated and could hardly move we cannot believe the galloping, leaping gazelle type movement she now achieves. She never walks always runs.

Our family is now complete. She adores Millie and plays so rough with her at times I have to save the bigger dog from Ruby kisses. Rex she still completely respects and he is still the boss but she does not think twice now of stealing his ball out of his bed. To watch the 2 of them playing is a joy.

Cannot go anywhere without all 3 of them in tow unless I am on my own. Then she runs to the front door checks none of the others are going without her, no they are tucked up on my bed confident of my return, then after watching me leave up she goes to lie down with them.

I feel I cannot remember life without her. Even bought a dog carrying bag in case the walks became too long for her - never used but handy for pub lunches to sit under the table while the other 2 look at her  as though she is in jail. She loves it and looks very superior cuddled up inside it.

We are very happy with our Ruby. Still cannot believe her rate of recovery and thankful to all those who saved her for us.

You beat me to it Sharon - I was going to say the dog isn't bad...  Laughing

Truly gorgeous pics of little Ruby (and Jilly). I hope that some of those are heading towards the calendar competition?  Wink
Dee

LOL. Left it vague ........

Could be either both are just such delights xxxx
Jilly Allen

Well how sweet of you all but nobody spotted the deliberate mistake. This is SUZI not Ruby. Poor Dee is so over worked she has put the wrong dog on the thread. Never mind I know she will correct it.

These are some great shots I took of Suzi the night before she went to her new home. What a lovely girl (definitely the dog) !!!
xristine

rofl - so much for our ability to recognise a dog!

It was you though Jilly?! At least we got that bit right!!
