Roxy Rottie ?3yr old

Roxy...We all stood up for you.  I met you through the bars in the vets..you looked so beautiful and royal. We began our relationship which ended in licks through the bars...and a whoof when I left for me to come back and tell you how lovely you were all over again. A sad life..a sad end..but as reclaimingrebus says..we cried for you -you were and are in our hearts.

Owner took the dog out of neighbours deserted house – was being fed by next door neighbours throwing food over the wall – had been chained up – ruined its teeth and damaged feet trying to get free and damaged most of her claws.  Owner climbed in and took it to the RSPCA.  Has chip but owners untraceable – apparently had two rotties there but house was empty and no sign of other dog.

RSPCA has given some treatment to feet.  Not known about jabs not neutered as just coming to end of season.  Has been with owner for 6 weeks – plus his other half, young daughter and 2 staffies.  Was initially wary of owner and better with partner but has come round. Was initially a little food protective but has calmed down there too.  She is good with the other dogs and very good with his daughter.

Owners arent working and arent in a position to keep her or give her best medical treatment (which was his current main concern because of the state of her feet).  They would rather keep her with them and do a home from home type thing rather than her go into kennels if possible.  We may be able to help with the cost of neutering and he is going to enquiry into the cost.  Ive given him Blue Cross details to see if they can help with cost of treatment for her feet – they sound pretty bad – but I don’t think he is near a Bluecross hospital.

Roxy is now in Battersea London they are treating her paws with antibiotics and pain killers but they need intensive treatment. We are discussing what is the best we can offer her and if that is fair to her.

It's terrible that this dog was abandoned by its previous owner; I presume the RSPCA would like to prosecute, if they could trace whoever abandoned her?
Katie

Although she is microchipped neither the RSPCA or Battersea have been able to find anyone.  The home she was in was abandonned.

She has muscle wastage around her head which goes to show how long she was mannourished for - it takes a fair while before it hits those muscles.

The head vet at Battersea thinks it could cost around a thousand pounds to treat her plus shes not showing her best with them growling at the vet staff.  But bless her - she is 80% lame in one foot (with which she has been in an awful lot of pain for weeks) - its a miracle she hasnt tried to bite them to REALLY tell them to stop poking it!

The thinking is that she damaged that foot whilst chained up but theres also a lump on her hock on one of her back legs.  They dont know what that is without xraying / investigating.  And for a dog that they will only have for 7 days they cant justify the cost of treatment.  She is on strong pain killers and anti biotics for the 7 manditory days whilst they search for her owners.  It is unlikely that they will keep her longer.

The Magic of our Rescue.  Weall agreed we are going to be there for Roxy when it would have been so easy to turn a blind eye and justify her demise as she was placed on the put to sleep list in Battersea tomorrow.

She is worthy of another chance the best we can give her and it is going to be so much better than she has known.

Mr Andre who has been there for our rescue always..his wife died 10 days ago and her funeral was yesterday.  I call this morning and asked how things were and if he was going away.  No he is around  'needing to work' So Roxy is booked in with him tomorrow morning he will do a full assessment and treat.  IF his assessment Roxy is in a 'terminal' way we will do the best by her and let her slip away. If they treat they have agreed to keep her in overnight and we therefor have 24 hours to find a recovery place for her.

The Magic of our Rescue Work!  Let it work for Roxy....

Spoke with customer service manager at Battersea London.  She had spoken with Katie and been to see Roxy as a consequence last week. Apparently she is a small Rottie - she fell truly in love with her and very touched by her poor physical state and sadness.  She is off to meet the senior nurse now and see if Battersea can transport her to our vets tomorrow morning.

Confirmation what a wondereful dog Roxy is and so much needs our love.
Katie

Im so glad she is in their hearts. xxxx

Roxie arrived at our vets.  Mr Andre examined her.  Sadly all her joints were swollen and inflammed.  Her left front paw had its nails worn away and large lumps under the skin. The muscles were wasted throughout the limb, up to the shoulder and neck.  Mr Andre explained that it was extensive nerve damage- that had occurred sometime previous. It would need extensive work but then no guarantees after putting her through serial surgery she would be pain free. It was best to give her a gentle end..and so we did.

Oh so sad, but thank god someone looked after her in her last days.  She finally knew what love and kindness was.
