Princess Kyia Staffie DOB 6.4.07 Southend on Sea

Princess was bought from 'druggies' as a 3 day old pup. She has been the baby since but now a baby has arrived she is off the bed and behind the bedroom door. She is great with dogs. She has been so upset by her demotion and ery stressed.  Her family feel they nolonger can give her what she deserves.

Jilly Allen

Definitely a very beautiful Princess. She looks a real love.
xxlynne

Princess was spayed today and as we were travelling from the vets Olivia offered a 4 day foster so the car came off the M25 and was diverted to a meeting point.

Meanwhile I was able to test Princess.  Yes she could live with another dog. Cats; well she sees, she spooks, barks and retreats sharpish!  Olivia will be testing her out with ferrets in their cage!

Oh that's a nice little respite for her so she can recover in comfort  Very Happy Well done Olivia.
EmmaSemple

Good choice of pet olivia...aren't ferrets adorable???  Cool If you ever plan to enlarge your ferret family , let me know...always have loads in rescue here. Very Happy

Anyway, I digress! Excellent news for Princess. Her world was crushed when she was taken away from her family and for her to be back in a home is a great thing!

she's lovely got a face full of character although got to say she does look like she has boston terrier in her, has typical boston ears/eyes.
Olivia

Princess

Thanks Emma - but no thanks!  Three ferrets is quite enough :-)  They are all rescues though!  Maybe if I get a bigger flat :-)
Back to Princess.  She is a sweety.  She was a bit fidgity last night but we settled her in and gave her chicken and rice for her slightly dodgy tummy and she eventually went to sleep on the sofa.
Today as it is sooo muggy and she had her op yesterday we went for a walk early this morning and have been to the park this afternoon but not too much.
In the house she is a lazy bones.  She has napped on the sofa for hours.  I have just been to the vet on my road and bought her some kibble which is gentle on the tummy.  She seems much better today though.
She is a really polite dog and tiny!
There was a cat in the vets office and she had a look but wasnt that interested and she just came face to face with Poppy through the cage (my big ferret) and did what any sensible little dog would do and ran away.  Neither the cat or the ferret ran away though and she does try and chase pigeons etc in the street - so I think that she would be ok with a dog confident cat.
She was friendly with all the dogs she met today, apart from a rather cocky jack russell who she saw off.  It was a seeing off though rather than anything aggressive and he was quite annoying so I dont blame her.
We stopped and had a drink in the park and she jumped into my lap and sat there watching the world go by.  As I said she is little.
She is also very good on the roads and will sit and wait till you tell her ok to cross.
She really is a very perfect little dog.  The worst thing about her is the fact that she is the messiest eater and sounds like a little truffle pig!  How far can you spread kibble?  Its astonishing!
She's lovely, polite, small, pretty, more than likely ok with cats and easy to live with.  What more could you ask?

Princess

I just saw the thing about the Boston Terrier.  I agree, I said to my husband last night that she looks like a bit like a french bull dog.  Her eyes are wide and her ears stick up all the time.
Olivia

Princess

She was very keen to go for her walk this morning.  I think that she is feeling much better, she was full off beans!  Have walked round the park she's had her breakfast and shes crashed on the sofa again.  She met a load of dogs and she is absolutely perfect.  She is an energetic little thing and definitely needs the morning walk and afternoon walk.  I suspect from her behaviour that this might be what she is used to.  However, when she gets back she is a couch potato.
The gentle on the tummy food has also worked a treat, shes completely better.
She is such an adorable little thing, a really easy dog.

Olivia to up date Princess's thread but have powerful thoughts for her as she nearly died today and is currently very carefully monitered over the next few days in a 24/7 hospital in case she suffers Peritonitis

Princess

Awful, awful day today after a really positive start.  We went for a short walk around Highbury Fields this morning and she was raring to go.  She was keen to meet with dogs but only allowed to sniff rather than play because of her op.  We then came back and crashed on the sofa to watch a movie for most of the day (well it was my day off!!).  I got up to do something in the kitchen and she stood up on the sofa jumped onto the back of the sofa to bark at the next door neighbours builder standing right outside of our window.  I told her to stop she did and got down from the sofa.  The next thing I saw was that her spey wound was leaking a small amount of blood on the floor.  I called my vet who told me to bring her in immediately (luckily only a few doors down), and called Lynne to let her know.  The vet put her on the table and her stiches completely gave causing her intestine to drop though.  The vet was fantastic.  We flipped her on her side and while I held her down the vet put her intestine back in bandaged her and rushed her through for emergency surgery.  Although it was obviously very scary for Princess her nature is beautiful.  She struggled when she was put on her side like all dogs but there wasnt so much as a growl or a curling of lip.  It must have been so painful but she was good as gold.  She had surgery immediately and I picked her up at 7pm to take her to the vet hospital for intensive care.  My lovely friend drove while I sat in the back with her.  She was crying and on a drip with a big collar on, but just wanted to be on my lap.  The vet said that if it had happened at home or in the kennel she would certainly have died.  Apparently it was just a really unfortunate accident, they reckon that the stitches knot came undone and the whole lot probably unravelled when she jumped on the back of the sofa.  She now has individual stitches so if one goes the rest will hold if she jumps up or gets silly for any reason.
She will be in there until Monday.  On Monday my Mum's friend has agreed to take her for a week while she recovers.  My Mum's other friend, her amazing and wonderful friend is covering the vet bill which will be a lot.   I am picking her up on Monday and driving her to Surrey where she will be able to recover while having a lot of attention.  Poor little Princess has had a lot of bad luck over the last week or so, and a lot of really amazing luck too.  She is a really special little dog, so sweet and so good natured.  I am speaking to the vet tomorrow to see how she gets on in intensive care tonight and will update the thread.  This dog deserves a home so much, she has had such a horrible time.

Thank god you were there to act so quickly  Shocked

Big hug for her, hope she recovers quickly.

Had the same with Lady 14 years ago! Wrapped a clean towel tightly round her middle and rushed her to the vets.  She recovered and healed very quickly.  Must have been a very frightening experience for you.

Sending healing vibes and hugs to her and very grateful thanks to you and the ladies who are pulling out all the stops to take care of her.  They are truly angels.
Olivia

Princess

Fab news.  Just spoke to the vet and she is absolutely fine.  He said she has started to bounce for attention, which she should really stop doing!!  Rolling Eyes  He said that she seems like a sweet little thing, but tough as old boots.  She can even probably come home tomorrow!!  He wants to keep an eye on her tonight and will call me in the morning.  If all is well I will pick her up and deliver her to Surrey tomorrow where she can have rest, cuddles and general tlc for a week.  Smile
Sharonr - Admin

Great news ... phew!
Jilly Allen

Has her new carer got a crate to contain her excitement in. I think it might be an idea as she is obviously full of life and it helps them to heal.

I never liked crates before  but over the months have really seen the advantage to contain and heal. I am sure someone in RR has one if you need one for little beautiful bouncy Princess.
xxlynne

It is a good idea. Please be reassured the vet that sewed Princess up has done it in a way that should a stitch come undone it will not relate to the other stitches.  She was taking no chances!
Olivia

Princess

We have a crate for the nights when she cant be kept an eye on and incase she starts being silly.
I will have a chat with the vet tomorrow to ask his advice but as Lynne said my lovely vet Louise has stitched her in a way that even if one gives then the others will be ok.  I will have a chat with the intensive care vet and see what he recommends tomorrow - he said that she had started to bounce so he will hopefully be able to judge knowing that she is likely to boing about a bit.  I know cats are supposed to have 9 lives but I think that Princess is coming close to matching that!!
Will update tomorrow and let you know if she is well enough to go into foster tomorrow.  Fingers crossed.
Olivia

Princess

She went into her new foster last night.  We took her over and she wasnt very brave.  In fact she would only stop crying if she actually could sit right on my lap with all four paws.  With her big head collar on to stop her biting her stitches it wasnt very practical - but shes had a rubbish time so she got away with it.
Had an update this morning from Heather who said that she had been good last night.  She settled down and seemed very tired.  The vet said that she hadnt been very happy in the kennel and so I think she was exhausted.  She is on anti b's and isnt allowed to go out for anything more than a pee and a poo until she has her stitches out.
I pick her up on Friday night and will take her back to the vet on Saturday.  Then I am afraid its back to kennels on Sunday as I have to go to work on Monday and so does Heather.  Sad
She seems to be doing ok though and hopefully will find something much more settled soon!
Olivia

Princess

Spoke to Heather who is fostering Princess today.  She said that she was charming.
Apparently this morning Heather decided to have a lie in.  Princess at getting up time (about 8am) went upstairs pulled the covers off her and licked her feet until she gave in and came downstairs.  Heather said that she couldnt stop laughing - naughty Princess.
Heather reported that she was doing very well.  She has loads of character and is so sweet natured and cuddly.

Princess has interested people. Dee setting up a home check.
Jilly Allen

I do hope for Princess' sake it all goes well. She really deserves a loving home after all she has been through. Fingers crossed.
Olivia

Princess

That is fantastic news.  Heather texted me this evening to say that she is fantastic.  She seems to be feeling pretty good too as her bounce has returned.  She cant wait to be able to go for some really nice long walks!  Not long now till she can have her stitches out.
She so deserves a proper home.

ILoveMyStaffie

Hello fellow or future Staffie owners.

I want to start by saying a MASSIVE thank you to everyone that has helped with Princess, she has had a rough old time but she is home now and we are loving it!!

We went to meet Princess who was with Olivia yesterday and we fell in love with her so we just had to take her home. What helped make this decision was this forum, being able to get an update on a daily basis helps you build a picture of what this dog would be like and we knew before we met her that she was the one for us.

So here is an update for her first day with her new family :

This morning at 7am, Princess pulled the covers off me and began to lick my feet (i thought it was other half and my luck was in LOL!), I kind of woke up and said to Princess "can i just have another half and hour then i will take you for a walk", she layed next to me and went to sleep. Bang on 7.30am, she woke me again and we went for a short walk.

Later on today, me and my other half took her for a lovely walk down the seafront. There was loads of people, kids running around, dogs off their leads, lots of amusement rides and people screaming and not once did she bat an eyelid, so chuffed!!!
Here is a pic of my other half and Princess down the seafront:

Princess is now exhausted and having a lay down on my sofa, here is a picture of me and her:

OMG, I LOVE MY PRINCESS !!!!!!
xxlynne

She has had a great day today and she is having her stitches out tomorrow, will give you an update tomorrow to let you know how she is.

Jilly Allen

I love a happy ending - well done everyone who helped this little girl and how great she has ended up in such a loving home - well done everyone who touched her young life.
Bud

what a great home she has found and how spoilt is she going to be!!! I am so pleased. I agree when you follow the forum and you get a picture right away of how special they are going to be...
ILoveMyStaffie

Update-

Went to see the vet today, took her stitches out and no problem, was in and out in minutes.

We did meet a 6 month old staff in the waiting room who wanted to say hi to Princess but she just growled - gonna have to work on that me thinks !!
Olivia

Princess

Yup she did that with me in the park to a couple of dogs including a 5 month old puppy!  She was happy to walk with dogs and meet them face on afterwards, but doesnt like meeting them face on to start with.  The reason - just because she is a Princess and other dogs have to prove their worth first!  Laughing
She will be fine I am sure with a little socialisation.
xxlynne

Other dogs just have to appreciate royal etiquette:  Curtsey, bow or fall to the floor.
ILoveMyStaffie

Update

Princess has not been well the last couple of days. She has been sick a couple of times (just bile) and keeps shaking. Going to take her to the vets this afternoon so will update you all later.
She is asleep at the moment, bless her.

So worried Sad
Fred R

Sorry to hear that - hope nothing too serious and that she'll soon be better.

Take care
Fred
