PLEASE HELP FIND JACOB ...Hi there
I have received the following and would appreciate it if you could read and cross post it far and wide if you can:

Subject: PLEASE HELP FIND JACOB
Dear Doglover
I wonder if I can ask you for your help to find our missing Bracco Italiano Jacob, who has been missing since 21st January 2009, some 6 weeks ago now in the Saffron Walden Area (CB11)
Jacob went missing on a walk after chasing deer, and has only been vaguely sighted twice since.
We as his owners are desperate to alert people to him being missing, purely in case you should see him in your area, hear about him through your customer base, or just by going about your day to day business.
Jacob is a very distinctive, rare breed dog and therefore hopefully all the more easily spotted.
At this time we are unsure if Jacob has now found his way into the wrong hands after his initially being lost, and therefore we are emailing further afield his normal area.
We are hoping that as he is microchipped he will be found through that should he get to a rescue centre, but we are now being told that not all centres (especially the smaller volunteers centres) have scanners ?
Or some do not scan too well. We therefore have taken to emailing everyone we can possibly find to show them Jacob, and ask that they check the dogs they have, just in case.
We would be eternally grateful to you if you would pass or display the attached poster in your rescue centre or kennels, or pass to anyone and everyone you feel could then help pass it on themselves.
The internet is a fabulous medium for spreading the word, and we hope that through it we can gain back some vital information as to where Jacob is.......
We are heartbroken that we haven't been able to find our lovely boy despite much time and effort spent looking, we are absolutely desperate to know where he is and won't rest until we find our boy.
With much Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, and apologies too if this is more than the 1st email we've sent. Forgive us, we are just desperate to be making people aware he is still missing.

Subject: Please help
Hello friends
As you may already know, we have been desperately trying to find our missing dog Jacob, a male Bracco Italiano who has been missing since 21st Jan.
I know you have most probably had numerous emails from either me, or our friends who are helping in our search, but right now I am writing to you as the focus of our search has changed.
On Monday evening we had a call from a lady on a mobile (number was shown) and who told us they have Jacob. The call was short, as if she was disturbed and had to go.
We have desperately tried in vain to get to speak to the person on the mobile number again, many (many) times and left messages and pleas for this person to get back in touch with us.
I have additionally sent texts to the phone asking for them to let us know he is okay, to take him somewhere 'safe' for us to get him, and asking if it's about reward money.
So far, the phone rings and is aborted to answerphone every time one of us calls.
I am told that hoaxers do not usually show their mobile number, it kind of defeats the object of them calling up. Knowing this obviously adds to our concerns for our boy.
We have contacted the police, who seem helpless (or is that unwilling) in being able to trace the callers mobile due to their "certain criteria". This shocking lack of help just makes this all the more upsetting. If Jacob were a motorbike or car, then the 'criteria' would be helpful no doubt.
So, yet again I find I am left with no alternative than to take the matter into my own hands, and therefore I am asking you to email Jacob's details to as many people as you can, and keep an eye out for him in your rescue, or at work or around your local area.
He could turn up just about anywhere now.
If you know of rescues (large or small) in your area, can I ask you to please kindly send them the email to make them aware of Jacob's plight. I have tried to cover all areas but cannot guarantee to know all the smaller rescues that I need to contact.
We all send those chain letter "send to 8 friends" emails round like wildfire, and I hope that we can do the same here but for more of a purpose.
Someone must know about Jacob, and through word of mouth we hope that it can feed back to us of any information of his whereabouts.
We are just utterly desperate to find him.
I really do appreciate your time is precious, so Thank You for reading this and passing it on to anyone and everyone you feel can help us spread the word.
Kind regards & Thanks
Shelley Haggerwood

I was at Crufts on the Friday this year, and I vaguely remember seeing posters there for a dog which I'm sure must have been Jacob.
Is there any further news on him?

They haven't been in contact, so no news yet.

Any news? I hope they've found - I was given a little poster of him, when I went out the other week to a dog show.
Fingers crossed for their family.

Here is the latest update ... cross post wherever you can please:
| Quote: | Dear Friends & Dog Lovers,
Firstly please forgive me for the en mass email.
Time is always at a premium, and so by emailing everyone together it means I can spend more time searching for Jacob elsewhere.
Many of you already know about Jacob, our much loved Bracco Italiano, who sadly has been missing from the Saffron Walden Essex area since January 21st 2009, therefore today marking him being missing for some 16 weeks.
For those of you who do not know about Jacob, quite simply, he is a much loved family pet, who went off after deer one morning on a familiar walk to him, and hasn't really been spotted ever since.
We have had a few vague sightings, or 'Jacobesque' lookalikes, but nothing firm leading to his homecoming. Something we desperately want, and hence us contacting you today to advise that yes, he is still very much missing.
I do get a lot of rescue centres phoning me through the week to see if he is home, and many individuals and companies are also kind enough to pick up the phone or email asking after him.
Many of you have added Jacob's appeal to your catalogues, websites, and mass emailed your customer lists and friends and family, all of which we are eternally grateful for.
Your kindness in thinking of Jacob and trying to help is what spurs us on in the plight to keep his name very much in the spotlight.
We have tried the media circles without much help, it seems a 'dog lost' story is one which doesn't raise much media interest.
There needs to be an 'angle' to it. What that angle is I will never know, but we cannot do more than we have already done I don't think, and with, or without the media on side, we battle on.
All we would like to ask today is that you please continue to pass the word to your friends, your customers, maybe even add him to any literature for shows or events, or put up his poster (attached) wherever you can - be that your local shop, your vets, your place of work.
Any extra poster placements and emails are what could bring him home.
Just anything you can do to help us spread the word.
I have to remember that Jacob could be anywhere out there, maybe even with a new, un-suspecting owner.
As I said before, we all pass on the "email 10 friends" emails, and those horrible chain letter emails, so if we could all do this for Jacob, as an utterly worthwhile cause I hope you will agree, it would be absolutely fantastic, and the word would hopefully continue to spread rapidly.
We cannot let our lovely boy just disappear without a fight, and be forgotten he was ever a huge part much loved part of our lives.
As heartbreaking as it is as time goes by, we just have to keep the campaign moving, with an air of positivity, hoping that one day someone, somewhere will have information which will hopefully lead him home to us.
Thank YOU all for any help you can offer, your generosity, and time given is very much appreciated.

I suggest we are not the website for up-to-date info, the post originator may or may not be keeping an eye on doglost.co.uk to keep these threads updated.

Hi. The owners have set up a blog about their search for Jacob - it appeared on our local news so have been following it. Will try and find the website later.

I have received the following - please crosspost and forward on where you can ...
| Quote: | Dear Friends,
We have reached 6 months without our gorgeous boy......
It's been a while since I got in touch, but so much has been going on lately.
Today I feel is a good day to remind you all about Jacob STILL being missing.
We have endured, as some of you will know, a 2 month search over at Welwyn Garden City after a woman supposedly saw Jacob with a man she vaguely knew, walking him round Stanborough Lakes.
He had apparently acquired this dog from Gypsies, the lady was very convincing indeed.
Something about this lady didn't quite fit, but keeping the saying "keep your enemies closer" in mind, we 'befriended' her in the hope that something would come it, and she may well have led us to our dog.
After a whole lot of time and effort, too many weekends, days and nights travelling a 2 hr round trip to search, built up purely on hope, we had a call from the police stating that the lady (I use that term very loosely) had been arrested on serious fraud charges.
We were in her sights, being 'groomed' for fraud.
We went to her sentencing a few weeks back whereby she was jailed for 4.5 years, (sentence was much more but stupidly, each runs con-currently nowdays) she having duped £100,000 from elderly and sick cancer patients. She herself purporting she was terminally ill with the same disease.
Another huge blow for our search for Jacob.
Our last insult was knowledge that recently a lost pedigree dog was found prior to being ready for being neutered at a reputed dogs home, it had been in the care of this large organisation for some 7 days and had gone through the hands of many.Thankfully it was re-scanned by the vet there before the op and a chip found for it's owner.
This not unusual I know, it can happen, but this dog had been in the care of the shelter for a week, during which time Doglost volunteers (www.doglost.co.uk) had been there at their fundraising weekend, displaying the missing dogs posters loud and clear.
Staff even checked the dogs listed during the day.
This same dog was in their care all the time.
This really worried us as you can imagine -
Could Jacob have gone through a rescue and rehome procedure, maybe his chip isn't scanning ?
Could he be listed as a cross breed/hound/pointer mix perhaps ???
PLEASE, PLEASE IF YOU ARE A RESCUE ORGANISATION, CAN YOU CHECK YOUR REHOME RECORDS TO ENSURE A CROSS-BREED WITH JACOB'S COLOURING, BUILD, OR LIKENESS HASN'T GONE THROUGH YOUR REHOME PROCEDURE
I know this is probably exceptional circumstances, and I am in no way knocking the fabulous work the rescues do, most of them on a tight budget, I am just very frustrated to read and have phone calls about this sort of thing happening and wanted to ask for help.
I hope you understand this from our point of view, knowing you would, put in our position, do the very same, we simply have to react by doing something pro-active.
Thank You so much for reading this far !
Thank You even more for taking time to check your records, or dogs currently in your care.
We will find our lovely boy, we just have to.
We cannot and will not rest until we know what became of him.
He was part of our lives for 3 years, and we owe him this search to bring him home again
THANK YOU
Jon & Shelley
