Ollie, my big black greyhound boy Devastated to have to lose him when on holiday. Not to say goodbye. But his oesophapgus had failed and he had stomach cancer plus probable prostate cancer.. All fine when we left on Monday morning, we knew nothing of these illnesses, - desparate situation by Wednesday. He had no signs at all and had recently recovered fully from a urine infection. Could have kept him clinging on until we came home but made the decision for him and not for us. He was such a gentle soul - loved nothing better than fuss but was no good with small animals, a typical high prey greyhound.
He had a lucky life for a racing greyhound - he broke his leg racing and the one of the staff at the kennel took him on and had it fixed. Her circumstances changed and she could not keep her 2 dogs. RGT took him on and he came to us for nearly 9 years. Other dogs came and went but he was our longest lived at age 12 . As most of you know from experience words cannot portray how I feel now. Guilt, sadness, relief that he wasn't in discomfort at the end.

Ali - Having loved and lost a Greyhound of the same age 4 years ago, I know how desperately sad it is when they go. Such an abused animal and all in the name of mans greed.
I met Ollie a long, long time ago but it was always very obvious that he was loved and cared for by all of your family.
So many Greyhound's do not get that opportunity and all of your dogs have always been exceptionally lucky. He wanted for nothing and died with dignity. That was what he deserved.

I am really sorry Ali, it is horrible for you to have lost him and not been able to say goodbye. Well done for putting his needs above your own and being brave enough to let him go.
Run free at the bridge Ollie x
