NancyI took Nancy out today in the company of Minx (and Zoe) for the short walk to the cafe.
They were brilliant together walking along side-by-side not affected by the passing traffic or the guard dog from the stables barking at them.
When the path got too narrow and they had to walk one behind eachother Minx kept stopping and checking to see where his friend was.
We stopped at the cafe and all had water, then returned to the kennels, en route we stopped for a photo session, but Nancy seemed very camera shy, I think Zoe had lots of pictures of Nancy's bum in the end
Kennelled together, these two really need to stay together, you can see that in the way they behave, lovely dogs....

Met Nancy & Minx for the first time today and what a lovely pair. They get on beautifully together and both of them were a delight to walk, very responsive and sweetly affectionate. Can't fault either of them and am very smitten. Jilly did their main photo shoot and more photos will follow, but here is one to tickle your tastebuds ... the lovely Nancy offering her paw for treats:

Minx had a very, very special visitor today. Little Nancy put her head around the kennel door and said "yohoo...do you want a cup of tea!"
Nancy has come back ... we can't say her home didn't work out, it did, but the family were conscious that Nancy wasn't as playful as their dog and in discussion it was decided they would continue to foster her until a home was found. Then a home turned up which will have Minx and Nancy together ... so Nancy has come back to be with Minx and they are meeting their potential owner on Saturday.

We all had an uneventful, but longer than anticipated, journey back to Christine & Chris's home. Christine missed the turnoff, but she rightly had other things on her mind i.e. her two new charges and what they were all going to do first ... believe me there is a list! LOL!
Hopefully Christine will post an update soon, but suffice is to say that Minx blew off a great deal of steam in their rather large back garden and he is exceedingly smitten with his new kong bone toy. Nancy did all the practical stuff; checked out the whole bungalow, sorted out where the water bowl is, climbed immediately into their nice new bed for two and after all the excitement found a cool place to take a well earned nap. Both have eaten their meal and last I heard Christine was dozing on the sofa with Minx along side her Chris dropped me back and seemed rather eager to get back home
Don't ask me to decide on who had the biggest grins on their faces ... Minx? Nancy? Christine? or Chris?!!!! There was not a lot in it!

A little told me that a certain new mum got up at 4am just to check that her two new charges were OK!
Then she got up at 5am, as you do ... just to check whether they were still OK!!!!

An update written by Christine on Nancy & Minx ...
| Quote: | Day 1
When Sharon and I arrived home we introduced Minx and Nancy to their new dad, Chris. He loves them and Nancy took a real shine to him. Minx on the other hand was far more interested in exploring the garden and ran himself ragged not realising he could do it all again the next day if he wanted to!
We played fetch with toy bones Chris had bought them earlier in the day. Minx was up for it, but Nancy, well all that running was just too much effort and she preferred to sit on the side lines. Nancy is a little lardy (as Sharon put it) and it became apparent why when we fed them. Minx ate very slowly and wasn’t much interested in food, Nancy would have eaten his too if she had been allowed to!
We took them for their first walk. At the road edge, Minx sat immediately when we told him to, Nancy stubbornly looked at us and eventually would sit with a resigned humph.
By late afternoon they were exhausted and spend the rest of the evening flat out in their basket or on the floor.
I checked them twice during the night. Both were fast asleep in their basket. The second time was a real Ahhh moment. They were both on their side. Minx had his back to Nancy and she had cuddled in so close her chest was against his back and her front and back paws lay across him. Neither of them even noticed I was there.
Day 2
Around 7am we were up and about. I went into the kitchen and they both sat bolt upright. To my surprise Minx barked. He hadn’t done so before and did not bark for the rest of the day. Both bounded up with their tails wagging so hard I thought they would come off. Chris got the same greeting without the bark or sneeze.
It was a bit of an eventful day and very different from yesterday. As the day wore on Minx became more settled and calm, whilst Nancy is finding her feet. We played fetch again today and to our surprise Nancy joined in. Before throwing the toy bone we told them to sit. Nancy would sit immediately and barked 'hurry up'. She hadn’t barked before so it was good to hear her find her voice. Minx’s bottom barely touched the ground before he was jumping up to get the bone. We are trying to teach him not to do this. Except for one occasion, he got the bone every time and would bring it back running around us. He now understands the word drop and happily drops the bone in front of us for another throw.
Checked on them around 3am, this time they bounced out of their basket and wanted a fuss. I went back to bed and decided not to disturb them again.
Day 3
Up at 6am. Got the bark welcome from Minx. Minx ate all his breakfast this morning and they both had a good run. Chris went off to work at 6.30am much to Nancy’s chagrin. She paced awhile then joined me in the office as I started work whilst Minx has taken ownership of a two seater settee near the lounge window. Around 8am I was on the phone when my nephew and friend walked in. Nancy and Minx introduced themselves and got lots of fuss.
It’s a working day so we will not be able to interact with them so much, but they seem very content nipping in and out of the garden and just lazing around. |

Day 3 continued...
Late morning we had more visitors. I hadn’t heard my brother and nephew come in … I had my nose to the grindstone working … until I heard good girl/boy!!! As you can tell they’re not going to make good guard dogs … which is probably just as well given the human traffic over the past few days.
Nancy is definitely getting the hang of playing fetch. The toy bones are no more so she brought out her hide bone (there were two but she’s hidden one and Minx has showed no interest in owning one). We threw it and they both gave chase. I’m sure Minx let her get it occasionally. After a while we left them to it and Minx lived up to his name. He ran around the garden, up the steps, across the patio, over the small wall and back on to the grass, repeating the circuit over and over again, all the time keeping the bone in his mouth. Nancy gave chase. You could see the smile on his face as he kept one pace ahead of her. When we told them to come in, he dropped it and she picked it up and brought it into the house. By 9pm they were in their baskets snoozing.
Day 4
No bark from Minx this morning, just two smiling faces and wagging tales. Minx is eating all his food now and Nancy has learnt she mustn’t go to his bowl after she has finished her meal. After 32 years I think hubby’s found a new woman or man!!!! He said goodbye, see you tonight. I responded only to be told “I wasn’t talking to you”!!! He redeemed himself though as I got the kiss on the way out.
They met their Nan this morning and I showed her how they play fetch. Nancy brought the bone to me for the first time. She didn’t’ drop it but let me take it from her mouth. Previously she would run off and sit chewing it, but Minx and I had a way of getting it off her. I’d tickle her ear. Her head would go up and he’d jump in and grab it from her paws. Crafty these Staffies!!!!

Dear Christine and Chris,
You are an answer to my prayer. When I met the lovely Minx and Nancy they were joined at the hip when we walked them, so the thought that they would be parted was awful. So when Nancy decided to come back to her boy I was delighted and then you both offer them a dream home together. I know it is because Sharon has told me that. (It is amazing what this woman can make her friends do)!
So fantastic they are that they are together and complete your family, well done to the both of you. I just think it is great they are with you. Lovely to hear the updates.

Another update from Christine - she says she will continue with them daily until Friday, sort out her camera batteries and post some photos and then the updates will be more ad hoc
Day 4 continued
I thought there was a bit of an altercation between Nancy and Minx but shouldn’t have worried; they were chasing each other around the garden and tumbling over one another. This was great to see as it is the first time they have done that without us initiating play.
The vet checked them out last night and gave them a clean bill of health. Seems my concern that they still had a touch of kennel cough was unfounded, they were merely talking and showing their excitement … we’re learning. Nancy weighed in at 19.8 kilos, to our surprise only 1 kilo over weight (not so lardy!) and Minx at 18.2 kilos, to our surprise spot on (we thought he was underweight). Afterwards we went for a walk to reward them for being so good.
Day 5
Not much to report today that isn’t rather repetitive.
I think Minx might have tried testing my authority as he kept jumping up at me when we were playing fetch and wouldn’t sit when I told him to, so I stopped playing. Minx wasn’t impressed, and neither was Nancy now she has the hang of thing, but hopefully Minx will respond better next time
Thank you all for your kind support and a special thank you to Abi and Toby. Abi, if you haven’t already done so, we hope you find that special friend for Toby soon.

Another update from Christine:
Day 5 continued
Minx has been a minx again! He’s decided to get frisky with Nancy, but she is having none of it. Nancy is definitely the dominant one and it was suggested that, now they are in a new environment, he might be trying to change this. I’m not so sure as she is definitely the boss and he does seem a little wary of her at times.
After making a sandwich, I had to leave it on the side as the phone rang. It was still there when I went back which confirmed what we thought … they are not food stealers, but then we are vegetarian so maybe it just didn’t appeal to them. Hmm now the only meat in the house is Fred Owl’s chicks and dog food!!!
Went out later to play fetch and to my delight they both sat down and stayed down until I threw the bone. Stopping the game earlier obviously worked. They are gorgeous, seeing their pleading eyes looking up at me I can’t help, but give them a cuddle … they’d rather have the bone thrown and cuddles later!!
Chris fed them last night as I had to go out … seems he was a little generous with the food … I’m sure Nancy wouldn’t agree. Still it doesn’t harm occasionally
Day 6
I had to be up around 4am to work and thought they might sleep through as they have on a few days, but delighted to find wagging tails greet me. It did mean come 6am when Chris got up that they were already in a playful mood.
After breakfast they went off and played chase together with a bit of rough and tumble. Minx hasn’t tried to mount Nancy this morning (I don’t think so any way). At one point I heard grumbling in the lounge to find Nancy on the settee and Minx on the floor arms locked. She was nibbling under his chin, which isn’t good as he has scrapped it and it started to bleed a little. Not sure the settee is made for doggie rough and tumble, but there we go!!
Hmm silence … I think I’ll go and check what they are up to!!

What wonderful updates.
When these two first came to us they were about the same size, but when Nancy left us, Minx went totally off of his food. He ended up just about finishing off Naturediet, but only overnight.
When Nancy returned, both dogs dived into the food bowls and finished their dinners straight up. It is plainly obvious that these dogs have an amazing bond and it is so good that they did end up staying together.

Really working hard to become Staffie experienced owners - 11/10 for effort and they love them sooooo much!
Sorry I couldn't get a piccie of the two dogs together, but when John had one on his lap, I had one on mine! Chris & Chris have some more photos which I took of them with the dogs on their camera so they will hopefully follow.
