Mitchell 1 year old Jack RussellxToday I had to do the hardest thing I have ever done...and that was to put a very very close friend to sleep. He had obvious damage from a nervous disposition and possible abuse in the past. He would bite..having given lots of warnings which we have managed to avoid since he has been with us. However in his attempted rehoming he bit his new carers hand without warning and held on. This is a line I find very hard for a dog to cross. Bites I can tolerate especially with warning behaviour..but knowing the full circumstance of how and when he bit I decided -no he was not rehomeable..and no we could never feel safe in our own home. Bless him he had no control.
He was a remarkable dog and we both loved him to bits..he has become one of our forever dogs...always in our hearts.
Mitchell was found stray and came into a pound. Taken in by a rescue on his last day and was terrified in the pound and journey. He seemed to settle in the kennel and proved housetrained and good on the lead. He was homed with family but 3 weeks, the man went to stroke his head and received a quick bite. Returned in to rescue he settled...then was grabbed by the collar quickly because a dangerous dog was near & he quickly bit. Consequently due to be put to sleep the next day unless a rescue proved willing to take him on...he is coming to us in the next few days. Fostered in Richmond

What a sweet nervous little boy, Mitchel was so so frightened when he arrived at Lynne's, with a very loose collar on. With time love and a lot of help from Saffie girl we managed to put a harness on him and tighten his collar. After a few hours of love and tenderness Mitchel made his own decision to come into the kitchen. His confidence will build very slowly with time

AdvertMitchell He is everything you look for in a Jack but "as sweet as a chestnut" he is about a 1 year old. He is a busy little fellow so desperate to please and nervous in new situations. If any terrier needs confidence behind his wheel it's Mitchell.
Mitchell was found stray and so nervous in the pound they were quite set on putting him out of his misery..but a dog supporter insisted on saving him and found a rescue..he settled once sure of the routine in kennels. He was homed but when the new owner went to stroke him one day he bit him having misjudged his fast move. Back in the Rescue centre the owner needed to grab him quickly by the collar and got bitten..his time was up..BUT the lady who originally persuaded the pound not to do the deed came forwards and phoned around..Terrierrescue said..this lad needs a chance. In fact now he is here THERE IS NO QUESTION..he is a great little chap. Whether he has had abuse in the past or just a nervous disposition with people he doesn't trust..we don't know. He would be great with visiting older children but younger ones could initially make too fast a moves for him. We have been building his confidence and now successfully mixing with 8 terriers and coming up for love and cuddles..abundantly given. He is neutered, vax'd and chipped.
He is great outside on his walks; housetrained; affectionate; loves to play with toy and inter-react. He can door dart..so you have to be consciousness when leaving a room if you don't want him to come with you..this could be how he found himself stray. He also has hesitations coming in from the garden ..maybe he has a 'outside' dog. He is a wonderful chap who needs a rock to stand by him as he settles in..but the love will flow..he is adorable!!
If you love Jacks and looking for close companionship Mitchell could be for you. Please visit our website click HERE complete our questionnaire and email it to questionnaires@rescueremedies.co.uk Thank you

Mitchell's confidence is developing greatly He is now sharing treats and chew bones in the lounge very well. He still gets stressed when we are eating our meal but seems a little better. Mitchell is also able to eat his meal in the same room as another dog be it a carefully choosen dog and supervised. We are very pleased with him. Lx calls him his cuddle monster and that tail goes into a blur!

MITCHELL!!!!!!!!
Mitchell was allowed to be in the lounge this morning whilst I was hoovering. completely the wrong choice of dog as he proceeded to attacked the hoover. BUT then I noticed something and switched off the hoover. I looked closely and wondered how I had missed it before. He has a bare patch of skin circling his neck in the same as Marley had. Obviously attached to a wire at some point. Oh poor lad..thank God you got free

Mitchell is coming along fine. He doesn't get as many walks as I would like to give him as my time is often taken up with the separated dogs. However he is happy and is enthralled by Millie currently.
His only problem is he can get stressed around food. Most times not but sometimes an energy comes over him of desperation...maybe a throw back of when he was stray or maybe like Bryson we had in his owner being alcoholic had forgotten to feed him. Providing when he gets desperate you effectively respect him and don't approach his bowl or bone which at the time you will appreciate he is guarding he comes through. This currently happens about every other week. He in the majority of cases now takes treats gently.
You have never seen a dog respond more to the good boy treat. His eyes shine and he softens up becoming very loving. He needs an owner who is quite assured in themselves to pass that confidence on to him. Lorenzo adores him always has..and they have a very close intimate 'picky up and cuddle' relationship.
