Misty 8 yr Westie

Dear Dear Misty had chronic health problems all her life, but such a sweet sweet nature.  Her owners Debie and keith cared and looked after her with such great love and she had such a wonderful life over the past 2 yrs. Sadly her little body finally broke down into heart failure and they tenderly had to say goodbye and thank you...

Misty's thread below:
She is now living with a family who are caring for her with the view to homing her permanently. The family lost their westie to old age in April and were determined not to buy from a petshop type situation again but to help a dog in need.  Oh the rewards are already so evident. She is so delightful and we are so happy for her.

Our vet will continue to treat her with Rescue Remedies paying for her treatment to correct a longterm illness. She may need surgery. Once we are satisfied we move the care into an adoption. Kingston

Misty had a vet appointment last week and we have another planned for this Thursday.  Her foster family find her poor housetraining too demanding and so Misty is coming to me tomorrow..How am I to live up to the roast chicken and all!

Actually can't wait to put the time into her ears and think we need to push for the operation so we can turn a corner with her.  He vet notes show when she was homed in 2003 her ears were bad then.

We will be putting Misty up on our home page as we need to raidse funds to help pay for her vet. care.

Misty came back today due to her "poor housetraining". She has put on alot of weight in the week she was away and I will make sure with lots of exercise that comes off.

I have been iching to get at her ears so had a very good session this afternoon as a start. They seem so dirty and clogged up. So Candy came on a trip to the chemist and I have now had a good go at them.  Tim the vet gave me painkillers today so she will have some with her 'small' meal tonight.

We certainly have a bonding thing going...love her .....our (RR/TR) little sweestie

Oh, Misty you do look a bit tubby Rolling Eyes   I'm always a bit wary of cleaning a yorkie's ears as they seem so delicate and won't take the chance of doing damage so only do top bit and not actually in the ear canal.  Any tips Lynne or have you had training from your vet on this? Wink

Hi,

I have a couple of tips ...

plan when you're going to do it and gather everything you need - this way the dog isnt all excited about you rushing about getting new things.  let them have a good sniff over everything and then settle them again with some t-touch if needed.  if they wont settle - do ear touches if you dont get a pain response then accupressure on the tips too.  hopefully they are settled now and you can start with the outside just stroke with your fingers to start with to get them used to it and note any pain response / discomfort.

if you think they're in too much discomfort then you may want to discuss sedation (if it is appropriate for the dog) with your vet to prevent hurting them too much as this could stop them being OK with their ears being done Smile

This is just what i've picked up working with bad ears and doing t-touch Smile

Misty had her vet appointment tonight.  Tim was delighted with her ears.  They have improved greatly and although he wants to continue the antibiotics and drops..he feels that we may have avoided surgery. He felt the treatment may take another 4 weeks.

I explained we had an interested family who are willing to care for Misty.  He said he was happy for her to go to her home.  If her vet recommended surgery in the future he would be happy to offer that to Misty and RR. Misty and I will be pooterling across to Essex on Sunday morning to meet some very special persons.

She has had a good day..trotting about with the tail wagging side to side as she goes. She does have some hearing lose..but lets hope she regains some in time.

We're all fine. Misty continues to learn new things

Still doesn't want to share wees with the outside world - but loves her
garden and we have had only a very few accidents. Rose moved upstairs for a
day when Lucy came to stay!

Her ears look dark on pic - but she is fine- off medication - seeing Tim
End of this week for check up. Eating like 2 horses if you let her.

Dear Misty what a pleasure to know you and meet you frequently as I was coming to and fro to our vets..with you living so near.  I appreciated just how much you were loved and cared for.  You had the very very best...now you are the angel you were destined to be.
