Minx Staffie 5yrs Isle of Wight

His Story: Minx was living with 5 Staffies.  He and his mother were surrendered into a Welsh pound due to owners illness.  He had been neutered and cared for.

Salient points: Was always proven with dogs, but in the process of coming out from a large pack Minx has made it clear he wants to be an only pet now. Fabulous with children and people.

Advert:  Minx is a very good looking, kind and very loving dog. He grew up in with a pack of dogs then he and his mother came into rescue. Given individual love changed the dynamics of his relationship with his mother and they had a fight which has resulted in them being homed separately. Minx will do well in a home where he learns to experience the love he has begun to value, but also is given confidence within this new setting. He needs time to find himself so he can again enjoy and be receptive to dog companionship. Minx is neutered, vax and chipped. He is housetrained and not destructive when left.

Minx has a new path to follow now having come out from a large pack and learning to be an only dog. It is like going through a late adolescence to discover himself all over again and his new owners will need to lead him through this. He is very special, he is eager to please so his owner(s) will find this a pleasure as he settles within a new family and learns to relax with his needs being met.

Please visit Minx's individual thread, in Dogs needing homes in our care on this forum to find out more about him and follow his progress.

If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

"Please note that this dog is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found".

Mark and I tried quite hard to get some good photos of this pair without realising Lynne had already loaded up some great ones! Our attempts are below.

Both Minx and Nancy are great on the lead, no pulling, and walk shoulder to shoulder when they can, it's adorable to watch. When Minx ventured out in front for a while he'd repeatedly take an anxious look behind him to make sure Nancy was still there. Nancy did use Minx as a step ladder when we stopped at the cafe and she wanted some fuss...! But Minx didn't seem at all bothered by this!

Really chilled out, lovely little lad.

Just couldn't believe how well these two get on together.  Such easy dogs to handle, a nice carefree walk and they are both very affectionate.  Couldn't not fault them - lovely dogs and they made us both smile.

Minx

Today was the first time I'd walked Minx since he was seperated from Nancy.
In the kennel he was great, really calm. I put a harness on him although there was no need, on the walk he walked by my side most of the time, he understood 'heel', 'wait', 'stay' & 'sit'.
We only did a short walk as it was so hot, we stopped for water and a fuss and he was all over me, a really affectionate lad.
On returning to the kennels I took him into the paddock and took some photos, attached below.
A really enjoyable walk in the sunshine!

That last photo is lovely.

As soon as a suitable dog arrives Minx really needs to be paired. He is very lonely.
Alternatively if there were a foster home that could look after him with another dog that would be great. He is such an easy going lad and very depressed since his girlie left for her new home. Sad

Awwwww! I have posted that update on all the other forums this morning, lets hope someone spots him and can either give him a helping hand by way of foster or offer a forever home.

Minx had a very, very special visitor today. Little Nancy put her head around the kennel door and said "yohoo...do you want a cup of tea!"

Nancy has come back ... we can't say her home didn't work out, it did, but the family were conscious that Nancy wasn't as playful as their dog and in discussion it was decided they would continue to foster her until a home was found. Then a home turned up which will have Minx and Nancy together ... so Nancy has come back to be with Minx and they are meeting their potential owner on Saturday.

You had to be there to see how sad Minx was to lose Nancy. The joy in his little Staffie body was very apparent yesterday and it went from play, to excitable whimpering to running to and fro us and throwing himself at them and then rushing back to his girl. Then they threw themselves back into the kennels and Minx went from picking at his dinner slowly to gobbling every single piece up.
Although it is sad that nancy had to come back to kennels for a short while, the joy that is shown that they are both back together is so apparent that it was the only thing that could have happened really!  Very Happy

That is fantastic!!! I know it is sad for Nancy to be back into kennels but it is only for a few days and then she will hopefully be going to her forever home!!

We all had an uneventful, but longer than anticipated, journey back to Christine & Chris's home.  Christine missed the turnoff, but she rightly had other things on her mind i.e. her two new charges and what they were all going to do first ... believe me there is a list!  LOL!

Hopefully Christine will post an update soon, but suffice is to say that Minx blew off a great deal of steam in their rather large back garden and he is exceedingly smitten with his new kong bone toy.  Nancy did all the practical stuff; checked out the whole bungalow, sorted out where the water bowl is, climbed immediately into their nice new bed for two and after all the excitement found a cool place to take a well earned nap.  Both have eaten their meal and last I heard Christine was dozing on the sofa with Minx along side her  Wink Chris dropped me back and seemed rather eager to get back home Wink

Don't ask me to decide on who had the biggest grins on their faces ... Minx? Nancy? Christine? or Chris?!!!!  There was not a lot in it!

Well it's been a while coming, but we now have photographs!  Auntie Sharon & Uncle John paid Nancy & Minx a visit this afternoon to see how they were getting on.  Still peeling the saliva off my face - we were welcomed with open paws!  These two definitely know how to give good love!  Here is Minx ...

Judging from the smile, I think he was happy to see us ...

Uncle John & Minx having a chat ...

Enjoying a little neck massage ...

Showing off one of his new toys ...

I'd say he was well settled in!

Chris & Chris were distraught to have to let Minx go as he was not getting on well with his mum, Nancy. So John and I brought Minx back to the Croydon kennels this afternoon.  He was the perfect traveller in the car and watched all the goings on as we got stuck in traffic over the Dartford Bridge.  He then got bored with it all, who could blame him, so stretched out across two of the back seats and took a nap - with a raise eyebrow every now and then to encourage me to continue to tickle his tum! I discovered that if you make a kissing noise he responses with kisses - tested that a few times, just to be sure, and he kindly removed my make-up for me!

When we arrived we took him for a nice long walk down the lanes followed by a play in the paddock with some of his toys before going to settle in his kennel.

I so hope he finds a forever home sooner rather than later.  He is a very loving boy which so much love to give.

A message from Chris & Chris about Minx - they hope his new owners are already searching for him:

Minx is a loving, loyal and very intelligent dog and we are absolutely heartbroken that we have had to return him.  However, Minx has recently bitten his mum Lily, (Nancy) and we are, therefore reluctantly, splitting them up.  We have done so after taking the advice of a highly experienced dog behaviourist and she believes that separating them will allow both dogs to flourish.

It is her recommendation that we keep Lily.  We would not have been able to choose between them; they are both very special to us.

Minx loves to play anything fetch, chase, just running around with a favourite toy in his mouth and a big smile.  He will also run to heel if you slap your thigh and call him to heel.  He is a real lap dog and loves to be tickled and fussed.  He also likes to sunbathe.  He is newly muzzle trained and loves to go out for walks.

Minx knows the following commands:

Sit, Stay, Down, Stop, Drop, Enough, In, Out.  His release command is “let’s go”.

I use "enough" when I want to stop a game.  I will then tell him “in” and he will run in with whatever toy we are playing with in his mouth.  I then tell him to "drop" it and to "stay" while I pick it up and put it away.

He can also open doors and that includes a heavy fire door into the garage … ! I cannot stress how intelligent he is and how quickly he learns.  He is not overly food oriented, but is much better than when he first came to us and we are sure that in time he could become quite a foody like his mum, who is a little lardy and currently on a diet!!

Needless to say, we will keep track of Minx’s thread as he will always remain deeply in our hearts.

Minx

I took Minx out for the 1st time in a while today, he was superb in the kennel almost putting on the harness himself, lifting each front leg in turn to accommodate the straps Laughing
On the walk he was really gentle, he stopped and sat while a customers son made a fuss of him, he walked alongside me nearly the whole way. At the halfway point we stopped and fussed, he is such a lovely guy, he is another dog that I can't believe is still here.
If someone out there is looking for a reliable, affectionate dog look no further than this chap, he is all you could want for.

Walked Minx today, he is such a lovely dog Very Happy

You always take such wonderful photos of the dogs - their personalities really shine through - I am sure these pictures help them on their way to their forever homes.
Well done you and keep up the good work!

Minx had his first walk with his new walker last week. Karen took him out for a good long walk but he seemed a bit depressed. Must be a shock for him to be back in kennels without his mum.  Lots of attention is needed for this boy to cheer him up:D

nothing looks quite so appealing, in goofy way, as an upside-down staffie!

Oh Minx what a character...how much you love your walks and company.
Heather

Minx excelled himself today! After an enthusiastic greeting he put both paws up on the kennel bars so that we could get the harness over his head easily, then he calmly lifted each paw in turn for us. He was so well behaved on his walk and sat whenever we asked him to for passing cars.

One time Minx heard something coming before me and Tom. He promptly shoved Tom in the leg as if to say "Come on mate, haven't you heard that car?", then sat down without even being asked to wait for the car in question!

Back in his kennel, Minx ran through the hatch for some water... then remembered his manners and rushed back out to say a proper goodbye before going back in. What a wonderful friend.  love4

Smiler boy travelled on Julie's lap yesterday..seemed so happy to have 21 mins of cuddles...pray his beauty and character is appreciated soon. We would like Minx to be homed in the South East of England
Heather

Lovely Minx - Tom and I would give him a home tomorrow if we had a house with a garden!
reclaimingrebus

walked minx today - he is extremely helpful with the harness  Very Happy I sat down on the stile for a breather and he immediately tucked himself round my legs. He was quite happy just to sit and have some undivided attention away from the hurly-burly of the kennel, watching the planes go by.
Heather

Tom and I walked Minx today - so pleased to be able to see him again at South Gatwick kennels this time, we've missed him!

He was rather enthusiastic in the kennel but soon did the usual putting his paws through the harness himself, then waiting calmly to be let out. We didn't get far on the walk before he wanted to be cuddled and patted and it was all of a few metres later that he rolled over and wanted his tummy rubbed.

His trick on the the walk is to stop dead every time he's not getting enough attention. A quick pat and we're off again... for a couple of minutes and then demanding another stroke. What a lovely chap!

Minx found his family at last! Was it his Welsh tones.. was it his tender temperament or his dashing looks? Perhaps it was his sad story; the love shining from his eyes or because Minx was Minx. He was the first dog they saw on the website that captured their heart and despite meeting 4 others, in the end it always was Minxy!
Sharonr - Admin

Told Chris & Chris the news today.  They are so pleased to think that he will not be in the kennels over the winter and has gone off to his new home.  They are touched with sadness because they love him very much, but know he couldn't stay with his mum, Lily (Nancy), and they hope to see updates of his progress.

Wonderful news for our smiling boy!  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Oh what fabulous news! Congratulations Minx and a very lucky family!

I'll really miss this wonderful fellow, he's been so lovely to take out. All the very best for your new life together.
