Is it just the angle the photo was taken from, but is this lad a bit on the thin and ribby side?
What's his story?

Melvin is a really lovely dog. Transport was late so I only got to say a quick hello, but he was extremely interested in the paddock and has got a great appetite.
He is very thin and bony, but two good meals a day of Arden Grange and we will see improvements quickly. He has got a fab appetite, so we won't be waiting for too long.

Today I had a date. I was taken out to lunch by a tall dark adoreable man. We are in love... from the moment we met I felt this man needs a meal ticket
so cheesy baked potato it was..
we chatted
He listened
I fell deeper
He walked me home
He shared some secrets how tough life has been
We arranged to meet again
He has started on his road home!

Melvin is doing very well in kennels. He was neutered yesterday and first vacc'd.
He has started to put weight on and is the most affectionate soul.
He would suit living with children. He is so calm and gentle and never jumps up or mouths.
It would be so nice to see him in a home.

MelvinI took Melvin out as my last walk today, although due to the smudge on his nameplate on the kennel door I wasn’t sure if his name was Melvin, Mervin or Merlin.
When I entered the kennel he was sitting in his basket inside, he trotted out to greet me, no jumping up, just a customary sniff around me, he was very easy to get the harness on.
Once outside the kennels, the heavens opened but it didn’t seem to bother Melvin at all, and after a short distance the monsoon subsided anyway.
I would describe Melvin as an ‘Elder Statesman’, he is aware of all that is going on around him and nothing seems to faze him. He will sit on command on approach of traffic, and is happy to trot along beside you, in fact, on the whole 2-mile walk today I can only think of two occasions when the lead was taut. He loves his treats and will sit perfectly for them, at the halfway point when I was making a fuss of him he decided to climb onto my lap, which made a mess of my coat but heh-ho.
As a gentleman of a certain age, he seems to have the manners to match. I know he was described as skinny before, I assume he has put some weight on since as I thought he had a really nicely defined shape, although the two bits sticking out the back might be going soon when the vet sees him next.
All in all, a nice introduction, I’m sure someone looking for a more mature pet will come in for him very soon; he’s everything you could possibly want.

Took the lovely Melvin out for the day today, only one thing we didnt like about him and that was his name and i dont think he liked it either as he never responded to it once.
Then we got the dog biscuits out and boy was he responsive then!!
Got on well with Trudy and Blue, did try to get on Trudy!!Soon made freinds after a few cross words. We all went for walkies down at Hindhead the devils punchbowl which despite its name is a beautiful natural area.
This is about 1 hour drive from kennels and Melvin crated was good as gold.First part of the walk he did pull on his lead, maybe he is better on a harness but he did settle down after a while.Sits and gives his paw for his bickie reward.Had 2 hours walk then rested fed and watered then another 2 hours and this seemed to wear him out (and us).
It was an honour to share the day with Melvin and i got thanks kisses from him when he got back to kennels. (have plans 2 meet again!!)

Forgot to mention that there were horses loose during the walk which Melvin looked at but had no other reaction, this guy is a star and anyone lucky enough to give him his forever home will be forever grateful.

Walked this lovely fella today. He is all that is good about the slightly older staffie. Calmer but still lots of fun. He has a loping action when he trots which is quite comical. A real sweetie - a favourite at the kennels.

MelvinI took Melvin out 1st this morning, he was still in his basket when I went into his kennel, as before he trotted out to greet me with no jumping up.
With the harness on we set off, the weather was nice and cool so we went on the longer walk. He was excellent as usual, no pulling, sat on command and just trots along next to you. We had a big fuss at the halfway point, he really does enjoy climbing onto your lap when he's getting fussed.
On the way back I got a phone call to say his foster family had arrived to collect him, which was a bit unexpected, on return they were waiting for us in the car park, Melvin reaquainted himself with his friends then jumped into the back of their car and he was off to 'Paws in the park'.
A lovely old fella, let's hope his forever home comes along very soon.

Travelled well to paws in park , but i think very overwhelmed by the amount of people and dogs where there about 3 hours and a lovely man (Newby24) had already taken him out for 2 hours but coped well . Back home now Had a walk with blue , trudy , harry and buster which went well . Hasnt met cats yet [ gulp ] and enjoyed his dinner and a little bit of blues , before starting his food he will sit and wait until told .
To man that walked him he really does walk better on harness than on lead as on lead- franks arm is longer walking him on lead until we got harness . All in all a cracking lad who deserves his forever home soon .

Melvin was very tired last night made a bed up for him on bedroom floor and he slept like a tired dog !!! Apart from swapping beds with Blue a few times. He has been out walking today with Blue,Harry,Buster and Trudy and has acted brilliantly. Also taken quite a shine to Trudy.
Has good recall especially if you run away from him and to see that big staffie smile when he is running across the fields is just what weekends are made for !!Sorry about the lack of pictures so far as i am having trouble with my camera will try to get some asap.
Today he has seen and heard Trains, horses, ducks he visited Ben who he very much liked, met my young neice 12 years old and heard the cats behind the door and was great with them all WHAT A STAR HE IS what more could you want high time he was in his forever home.

Mervyn was such a skinny boy when he arrived. There was no excuse really being that he has such a great appetite.
Good things are to come for this boy

This lovely boy is getting on really well with most dogs and all people what was discovered today was he is very unpredictable around small dogs , this might change when he settles in to his forever home , but that is the only part of his halo that has slipt , so he is not 100% angel just 98.9% . This morning Harry our 13 year old staffi who has a very nasty heart murmmer found it hard to come down stairs and melvin went up and turned around on step behind him and came down along side harry then harry came down with mel along side of him , , thats them nasty staffies for you

Something Melvin has taught me yesterday after incident with yorkie , how ever good you think your rescue dog is there is always something around the corner ,that sounds apt seeing he had his incounter around a corner [ha ha ] . I was complacent as we only had him with us 2 days and he had been so good with everything up to this point . Anyway that was yesterday , today he was back to marvellous melvin . Went to large open field and had free run again and practiced recall with trudy and blue went really well .. Trudy and Melvin still in love even though mel run into her this morning and bolled her over then backed away with a play bow and a funney bark .

Another good day , hovered today and he was very good [ dam no excuse not to do that while he visits ] , also mowed lawn with no reaction and i thought he was my friend just come back from 3 hour walk with trudy blue and himself good boy all the way , had his dinner now sleeping soundly [ snoring ] trudy has forgiven him for bowlling her over and played well again .

Had a brush coat looks really good .

After deciding to keep Mel on longer term foster was very upset that yesterday he had a confrontation with Buster our blind diabetic Collie x
(nearly named him Lucky!!),which scared Buster and he was on edge all the time, yet all week prior to this Buster had been causing the trouble by growling at Mel who had not responded, had even been sleeping very close together earlier in the day so the whole episode was a shock and surprise as Mel seemed to have really setteled in.
Mel seemed very intent on beating Buster up as once i had got them apart he was lunging back at Buster again all in silence as Mel didnt seem to growl or bark coupled with this he had also started to become very reactive to the cats again just a fixated stare no sound.
So with heavy heart we had to return him to Croydon, sometimes you best intentions, however wellmeaning just dont work out.
But in true Melvin tradition was very affectionate and loving with all people he met and was very pleased to see Racheal again almost to the point that he forgot to say good bye to us!!Take care Mel will see if we can take you out for the day again soon mate.

Thank you so much for giving Melvin this opportunity. He proved himself in so many ways. Bless Buster, he is allowed to be grumbly with losing his eyesight, he's going to be on edge. I have a grumbly bitch who has become more tetchy as her vision has deteriorated. Dogs take it so much, then decide no more and tell her. Hopefully if Melvin and Buster meet for a day they'll have forgotten their differences, but yes let Buster be comfortable in his own home.
Melvin will be homed soon absolutely sure!

MelvinSue and I took Melvin out this morning as I hadn't seen him for a while.
Brilliant in the kennel, the harness went on straight away. On the walk he didn't even make the lead taut, he just plodded along at his own pace.
At the halfway point he enjoyed a big fuss with both of us, climbing all over me and sitting on my lap, much to Sue's amusement
He sits on command on approach of traffic and is very calm, would seem to be an ideal only pet, but maybe we can walk him with other dogs in the future to try to solve any problems.

So nice to here about melvin , he is a very good boy with people and patient to as i wasnt very good to start with putting harness on but he used to just sit there and wait for me to get it right . He walks ok on the lead with other dogs the trouble really is of lead is very unpredictable . He sits and waits for his dinner until told to get it , feed away from other dogs, as very food motivated which will be very handie helping hm .

walking with MelvinTom and I walked Melvin today. He was much more confident and energetic since his time away and even insisted he and I go for a short run to catch up with Tom ahead. What a wonderful walking companion - loves to be around people and keeps checking you're still there!
Here's a photo from a walk with him a couple of weeks ago. He decided it was time for a rest and as soon as I sat down came over and plonked himself on top of me.
I'm pleased to say this aspect of his character hasn't changed... he did exactly the same thing today.
