Me & Peggy SueHi,
Not sure if this post is OK, but I'm sure moderator will tell me if not.
My husband and I live with our 2 children and our dog Peggy Sue (about 2 ½). I have owned a Yorkshire Terrier (sadly died at age of 4 after a run in with a larger dog that got into our garden) and a Jack Russell (sadly died 3 years ago at the age of 17 ½). My husband has owned a Huskie and a Labrador cross (both passed away many years ago).
We are looking for a smallish male dog to be a friend (and only a friend!!!) for Peggy Sue. She is a very large Ridgeback / Mastiff / Labrador cross and is very picky with her friends. We got her when she was around 9 months old as a rescue. Unfortunately, we believe her original owners tried to fight her as she has a nasty scar on her head, would rather starve that eat from a steel bowl, and has an ‘inappropriate’ play technique with some other dogs. She would never intentionally hurt another dog, but in her formative months was taught how not to play – if you know what I mean?!?
We were told by numerous experts that we would never be able to introduce another dog into our home, but we felt otherwise. In February we got a black Labrador cross puppy (Chester) and the 2 dogs loved each other to bits from the first moment. They would play all the time, and from the first night slept together in the same bed. Unfortunately, after 4 months, it became apparent that Chester was always going to be bored living with us, so we thought long and hard about what we should do. We decided to offer him to Hearing Dogs as we felt he needed a job – they were thrilled with him and we have had reports saying he is doing extremely well – we are very proud of him. However, Peggy Sue is now a little sad. She loves just mooching around in the garden most of the day whilst we are at work, and enjoys family time inside and walks in the evening – but she is lonely without Chester.
