Lucy - Staffie x Visla Furry Friends SurreyLucy is a Staffie x Visla of about 1 year old.
She was originally found as a stray eating food off of a bird table due to her condition which was emaciated. She was a travellers dog, most likely to have been dumped and she was one of the most abused dogs that have ever come into this rescue.
When I first met her she was curled up in a tiny ball and quivering in fear. When I first touched her she wet herself and could not control her bowels either. She was that terrified. She was picked up at around 6 months old and we worked very hard with her on her social skills. Her previous owners had beat her and she was scared of anything stick like and also of leads.
After a long road (and with the help of my own confident dogs) she settled into home life very well.
Always good out on walks, but preferred to keep herself to herself.
Sadly when a dog is treated like this it leaves mental scars and Lucy continues to have a few problems that have to be worked with. She is still suspicious of strangers and needs to be handled by confident people and those with experience of abused dogs.
She was homed for about four months but was recently returned due to the owner suddenly not being able to handle her. She had developed car chasing habits, but we have discovered that this is more an attention thing as if you tell her to 'Leave it!' then she will ignore the car. It is not every car and since being walked daily on roads this habit is now nearly non-existent.
She still has habits of preferring her own people who she loves and trusts to people that she does not know. Praise and reward is a good way of training her that strangers are not going to hurt her.
Lucy can live with cats and other dogs, but she would need confident cats. She has also lived with small caged animals with no reaction and is currently in foster care with a Border Collie.
Lucy cannot live with children and needs a quiet and structured home, plus an owner that is not going to give up on her. She will also need daily exercise and confidence building when out and about which I feel personally that she did not get in her previous adoptive home. She will need a Staffie experienced home.
Lucy will need a minimum height of 6 foot fencing all around the garden.
She has been spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped.

I am currently fostering lucy an she is a great girl.the first walk we went on she was jumpin at oncoming cars but not ones goin the other way.it took a couple ov weeks an a tryin a few different ways to control but now she looks but doesnt jump.she has started jumping at bikes though but i am working on that aswel.she has growled at a couple ov men since i have had her but if you stand waiting after the initial sighting with the person stil close she just relaxes and ignores them.i have introduced her 2 people in her comfort zone and she is very curious and wants to know wat they are:-D.she wil run in and out sniffing and running off but even though she is a bit uncomfortable she wil stil take treats off them and then wil settle.i think this little lady wil be so rewarding to see her improvements.the next home will need 2 b her forever home as she really deserves it.:-)
