Jess (Julia) Crossbreed 1-2 yrs Norfolk
Her Story: Found stray in south east London in neglected and starving condition.
Salient points: Young lurcher with puppy type instincts to relationships. Food focused. Needs aware forgiving family to give her time to settle and adapt to inclusive living.
Advert: Julia is a wonderful lurcher type dog with larger paws giving a shepherd feel in with her breeding mix. She delights in everything that is offered to her and truly appreciates kindness and inclusion. Julia was found stray and in quite a sad state for a young dog. She had been starved and was food hungry. Her instincts are play with others she wants contact and isn't coping very well with the 'behind bars' of kennel life. Very keen in her focus and awareness of all around her she has been placed close to the staff's hut so enjoys stimulation and loads of acknowledgement and fuss.
Julia is a beautiful dog. She however is perhaps one of our saddest dogs currently, obviously having had so little given to her in the past. For example periods in the exercise paddock are spent focused on the spy hole in the gate intensely waiting for staff to come back for her. She needs an aware home who can accept her 'rawness' of behaviours as she attempts to please without having a full repertoire of skills yet to back it up. She can catch with her teeth if deflected from her intent pursuit or if rushed and handled without due sensitiveness or negotiation. She is improving all the time as she learns our intentions are loving kindness. However this means Julia needs to live with a family who can accept her 'rawness' of reactions and give her time and forgiveness whilst her rawness of needs settle. She adores her walks and walks nicely meets dogs well. Housetraining will take very little work. She is a truly wonderful dog in the making. She just needs sensitivity and assistance to settle into a wholesome family life with her needs central to all.

Julia was spayed today. She travelled well delighted to watch and see all the goings on around the M25. Now chipped also. Everyone in the vets thinks collie cross. She has a very long back and fur type that mimics shepherd. In truth whatever breed you are looking for this is your lady!
Need to test her with traffic as was quite interested in a motor cycle going by so mental note taken...Ali12345 perhaps you can explore!
Oh and cat tested wonderful saw, walked past, interested when it ran and jump on to a wall but walked away.

Met the lovely but nervous Julie today with my daughter.
She had just been vaccinated when I took her so that may have made her more nervous. On the walk she settled nicely but was walking to and fro to see all there was to see.. All went well including lots of licks and cuddles at the grassy stopping point, but then a huge dustcart came along and frightened the living daylights out of her. She dived into the thistles behind us but luckily I had a good hold. She recovered after it had gone but was more nervous of all traffic. As in the post above - she may need a little work on her confidence around traffic.
This girl wants to be friends but just has to make sure you are not going to hurt her - very sad but she will learn that she will be treated with love and respect.
She seems to love other dogs and was very keen to play when we met various other dogs. In fact she seemed to calm when she heard the barking of the dogs, felt safer.
Some sighthound in there and she is a leaner when she is cuddling .

Jane, Toby, Polly and Paul have met and taken to Julia.
Julia has gone home with them on a trial adoption but they have quite a complex family with their rabbit and cat being integral, so we are taking each day as it comes. A few 'food and bin issues' identified and alot of excitement over the hutched rabbit but muzzle is on and there already have been occassions when she enters the garden without visiting the rabbit's hutch.

Julia was returned this morning. The family felt she was too interested in the rabbit to pursue putting the time into her. Well she is a lurcher bless

Her beauty is evident
You are going to be one LOVED dog little lady
Meeting Rachel, Stan and Lucy she was so happy. She would love to be with another dog.

You can just see what a beautiful girl this is. With love care and training she would be even more gorgeous than she already is.
Where is that patient loving forever home - just around the corner I am sure.

Julia has been moved into the orchard area now and is far happier that she can interact with people.
She is a very excitable girl when she settles and needs extra training to try and control her energies.

Walked Julia again today and she has come on a treat. No longer nervous of me putting her harness on - she has learned to trust. Such a loving girl - we had lots of fuss time at the cafe and she leaned into me thoroughly enjoying the experience. Although her energy has increased generally she was quite easy to walk and didn't pull much at all, a nice slack lead walking at your side. I kept her away from the traffic sife of the pavement and she coped fine with lots of noisy traffic. At the cafe she didn't care about all the lorries going past but did keep her eye on them just in case. She met Karl nicely nose to nose under the table and partly on the walk but got a bit over excited so I kept her away. She has so much to learn so her social skills do need a bit of a brush up. Very keen to play with other dogs but don't know if she has the manners just yet.
Another one we'd take home if we could

JuliaI took Julia out last today as she had protested earlier by 'nipping' at another walker. She was calm in the kennel and fine when I slipped the harness over her head, but she was very defensive if I touched her side or underbelly whilst securing the harness, but with gentle coaxing I got the harness secured.
Once on the walk she was really pleasant to walk, she doesn't move too far from you, likes to be alongside you. She is definately wary of traffic, vans in particular, although she didn't bolt from them, she tended to view them from behind my legs.
At the halfway point she was watered and fussed, she will sit for treats and as previous posts state, she does like to lean into you whilst being fussed.
On the way back all was fine, trotting along happily until some little git on a 50cc scooter with a loud exhaust flew past us at speed, poor Julia nearly wet herself, I sat her down and made a big fuss of her and then we made our way back. Once we were back in the kennels the same issues arose as I took the harness off, she was 'mouthy' if I touched her side or tummy.
I took that as signs of abuse earlier in her life, hopefully, with regular loving attention and contact with understanding handlers she will become less wary. A lovely lady with a bright future.

That's a shame. When she was fine with me second walk I thought she had generally got less nervous about the harness but it must just be that she needs to know you to trust you. Poor girl - she will come to trust.

I would so foster this girl if we did not have a full house. It seems to me she needs to be in a loving home to settle down and get use to a normal life again.
I hope either a foster or forever home comes up who are prepared to work with her, she really deserves it.

She's off to the countryside castle barksHey guys, I am going to be picking Julia up later on today. Spud has left for pastures new so space has come up with my crazy but loveable gang. Like the others I am sure she will settle in here and get all the confidence, care and loving she needs.
Lets see if she can keep up with Vixen as so far nothing has come close. LOL

very sadHey guys, I am very sad to say but unfortunately Julia is going back to kennels today. Vixen for some reason just didnt take to her at all and one of the reason I foster is for a playmate for Vixen. Like humans I think just sometimes we meet other dogs and people that we just dont get on with.
I have found Julia to be great in the house no messes at all, very well behaved, she is now horse tested thats all good and if she has other dogs about she will come back no prob, Bit stubborn if on her own. This morning I had the vet up and he brought his 2 jack russels on the yard and no probs all had sniffs and had a little play. Her manners are very good in the house and she really does listen to you. I am sad to see her go as I think in an only dog home she would be a great friend for someone and very very loyal. I wish her all the luck in the world and will follow her thread with interest. Just one final note, I did not find her mouthy at all and she was fine and very happy to have cuddles, to be stroked all over so yet again it does seem to be a confidence thing, which as will all know takes time and patience.

Julia is now at Farnham and hopefully will settle. I was so aware of her when I dropped Wyatt off today. I decided to give each of the Welsh dogs 20 mins 'chill out' time each. Julia suddenly appeared to join Phoebe having jumped over her kennel. So I put Phoebe behind bars and gave Julia 10 minutes. She then went into a kennel with a bone. She was exhausted I could see and her paws are sore. Oh Julia of all the dogs -you so need a foster place to learn to relax and receive the love you soooo deserve.

Well, what can I say, Julia is an absolute beaut
She had to wait while I meet the others and certainly made her presence known I just love her mix, whatever that may be. She is another one that doesn't seem to have quite grown into her paws but she must have finished growing by now? Such an attractive girl and whoever is lucky enough to home her will spend more time waiting while she is admired than walking, me thinks
She was very happy having lots of cuddles and fuss and very interested in everything on our walk. I prefer to walk with just a lead and she was abolutely fine.

Julia has moved up to the quieter top paddock and is now next to Stanley. They seem to get along well unless he starts bouncing - then she tells him off
She does walk beautifully but is a little skitty when the wind rustles the trees or something moves in the undergrowth. She definitely prefers the ' open' to the more densely wooded areas.
Settling well and I do love the way she cuddles (even though we should be encouraging 4 paws on the ground - she is so gentle )

Well Jess doing quite well all things considered!!
What an amazing family she has found. Working hard to cope with all her issues and moving their lives to do what they can for her. Such a loving and caring home. Jess could not be in better or safer hands.
Here is the latest update :
| Quote: | Hi Dee, sorry i wasnt hear when you phoned, eddie said he told you about the dog listener, i did try phoning but you must have been busy cos your mobile was on voicemail, hope you got my text, the woman that came was very good, lots of improvement already , my son-in -law said tonight what a difference in me and eddie from last friday, we were so upset last week and so controlled this week , i know we will go back a few paces before we go forward again but i feel more confident now, she was here just over three hours , if we need any more help or guidance we can phone or e.mail any time, that help is there till the end of Jess's life ,she does the Jan Fennall method of dog training you lead by gentle training no fuss no shouting and no gimmicks, most of my family were here to ask any questions, and so that we all know how to react to jess and what to do to calm her down, look forward to giving you another update next week , i think i feel better cos we were so sad at the thought we would have to give her back, please give lynne my regards , love maureen x
