took Jasper for a walk today and he was no trouble. He'd initially been a bit barky when I passed the kennel door and then he realised I had cheese in one hand and a lead in the other and was quickly voted his new best friend
He was good to handle, easy to put a harness on, unreactive to other dogs in the kennel, and walked nicely on the flexi

Jaspa has found Jill...but currently curious about his reflection in the kitchen window..
Jaspa no longer looking at the reflection..(behind him now) but interested in the toys on the side....
What a wonderful couple..what's he spotted now!
Jaspa is now in Oxford FVH (intelligent don't you know) reading "sporting games"

Jaspa came back yesterday. He became very dominant and challenging. We think he needs to be in a pack, with less attention on himself. Currently in Farnham Kennels.

Jaspa has settled well in his new situation. He is very boucy and getting his lead secured is a challenge Very affectionate, though, and I am looking forward to getting to know him better

Little Jaspa had me in fits of giggles today -
On the one hand he bounces all over the kennel and then sits beautifully at the 'way out' door, allowing you to go through first - such lovely manners
Once out and about, if you try to call him back from the end of the extender lead, he immediately 'sits' back to you and then waits. Eventually he looks back, with the most wonderful look, as if to say ' you want me close to you, you come over here' Luckily I had read the comments by reclaimingrebus about cheese and my look said ' you want cheese, guess what you need to do' I think we will call it a no score draw for today
His 'look' is amazing and it has been captured in some of his photos - one eye slightly more closed than the other - what a character Despite the stand offs, he is still a sucker for cuddles and quite frankly, who could resist

Meeting Jaspa in the fur is always a shock...he is so handsome... magnificant. Jaspa was a delight .. and ran around the exercise area with delight. Went for a lovely walk (Had my camera in the car at this point alas) and met dogs outside and walked past their kennels without reaction..Next time I visit I will walk him together with my Fern and get some lovely pictures of him. Pleased to see him quite relaxed in kennels and relaxed out on his walk.

Jaspa and I went 'off piste' this morning as he picked up a scent that really tantalized him. It was wonderful to watch him following it so intently. Whilst navigating our way through the woody undergrowth we came across a fallen tree blocking our way. I was just thinking that I would have to pick him up and clamber over together when Jaspa sprang up and cleared the whole thing with plenty to spare. It was so graceful too After that he popped over numerous fallen trees and seemed to really enjoy this form of exercise.
Guess his forever family will need to have pretty high fencing

Jaspa is continuing to do well and has won over everyone at the kennels He enjoys his walks and still loves to jump over anything and everything. He is a very busy boy and does play well with all sorts of toys. He particularly loves the 'knotted string' ball Lynne left at the weekend. That has moved up to top toy
He has had quite of lot put into him and his training is very good. He does understand quite a large number of commands. I am working on taking treats a little more gently

Jaspa went out for a lovely long walk with Sammy75 this morning. We tested his patience to the limit this morning as he came into the kitchen with us while I filled Sammy75 in with all the recent movements.
He was very good, though, and sat when asked and waited beautifully while we found a new harness for him. Although he walks well on a lead, yesterday he was determined to 'catch that squirrel' so I decided that walking him on a harness would just be more comfortable for him and everybody could have more fun.
Lovely, lovley boy

I wasn't able to take Jaspa out yesterday so he was really full of beans today. He took to impersonating Mougli, trying to climb trees after squirrels For the first time ever, he even barked at them.
He did very well meeting a pack of labs and a GSD out in the woods. At first he barked at them but soon settled and then ignored them.
I did notice that he is starting to lose the hair on his hind legs so will have to get some more tee tree oil to rub in for him. It is not dry or infected but I think sitting on hard floors has rubbed it away
|
karen
|
Jaspa is continuing to do well, although I noticed today that he has lost some fur from the back of his ears as well Somthing to keep an eye on, although, like his 'behind' it is not sore or dry.
He is still very bouncy but will breifly introduce his bottom to the floor when asked. I did notice that he alternates bouncing and sitting in an attempt to get want he wants.
He does pick things up very quickly and is so full of life. He really needs to be out there living it to the full

After the interuption of half term, Jaspa was really pleased to see me this morning and was full of the joys of spring
Before we went out for our walk, he helped me out with some PR work to say 'thank you' for a box of goodies donated to us by the Worldwide Veterinary Service.
He was a very good little helper, went through the box thoroughly
His fur is starting to come back in places on his hind legs and his coat is looking in fine condition.
Gorgeous, energetic, inquisitive boy as always

Jaspa has had a really good week. I found some new toys and he has thoroughly enjoyed them - note to forever family - toy box required
I let him go through the bag and choose which he wanted. Having made his selection, he dashes back to his bed and pounces all over them before 'burying' them
It always amuses me how he picks up routine so fast. On our return from our walk, he goes back into the kitchen and sits, staring intently at 'the box'. It is from here, I select a treat and toy for him to take back to his kennel. Once I have it, it is a mad dash to the kennel and beautiful sit while he waits to see what was chosen for him. Oh the anticipation
His fur is showing signs of growing back and I am sure that it is a case of 'wear and tear' on the concrete floor.
Such fun this week

Jaspa and I had a lovely play and then a long walk this morning. Once again I managed to walk straight into an army exercise but Jaspa was delighted as he was allowed to jump over all the barricades they were building
I wasn't allowed to take photos in that area, but did managed to get some further on ...
We were tired out by the end and Jaspa was happy to retire to his kennel with a raw hide chew

I am so falling in love with Red Fell Terriers Hope he finds a home ever so soon.

True to their word, the squaddies left some barricades for Jaspa. Oh we had such fun jumping over them today
I think I have finally worked out the hair loss behind the ears. I think it is where I take the harness on and off - only taken me ages but have finally got there
You can see quite well in this photo.

Jaspa is still doing well, although not very good at pacing himself in this weather We still 'leave the traps' at top speed but it doesn't take quite so long for the pace to slow as it is hotter. Mind you, the sight or sound of a squirrel and we are off at full pelt again
Whilst we were out today, we got 'charged' by a boxer on the loose and Jaspa was very well behaved. Definite gold star for him today
|

Whilst playing fetch with Jaspa in the paddock before our walk today, Jaspa barked when giving the toy back to me. I was quite surprised and realised that I don't think I have heard him bark before. When I arrive he does get excited but tends to bounce rather than bark. It was actually quite endearing - he deposited the toy at my feet and then gave a little yap as if to say 'come on, come on.'
As with Spice, I am going to have to film Jaspa to illustrate his splendor.

Dear Jaspa. The most good looking dog I have ever seen
In the fur he is stunning

Jaspa moved into a different kennel block earlier this week and has had great fun exploring a new paddock. Some of the 'inmates' have started to tunnel under the shed and Jaspa has added his efforts to thiers
We have a new game, although I am not certain I know how to play it properly - it involves him 'hiding' in the hole, I call him and then he does a super fast circuit of the paddock before returning to me puffed out. I am not convinced it is good for his recall training and probably shouldn't be engaging in this, but oh, he really, really enjoys it
With all that vigorous exercise and the hot weather, our walks have been slightly shorter and slower
|
karen
|
Jaspa continues to do well and enjoy his walks. This morning on our return we had to wait for a while in the adjoining paddock while some others dogs had their run. I took the opportunity to do some traning with Jaspa and he did really well, as usual
He does 'sit' 'down' stand' very well. 'Wait' and 'stay' are a bit more selective but I know he can do it
|
karen
|
When out on his walks, Jaspa always faces that age old doggie dilemma - how do you keep your nose to the ground, following that irresistable scent, whilst keeping your eyes on the tree tops for those darned squirrels and mark your territory all at the same time
Just so many things to do
As the walk progresses, he does give up trying to do everything at once, but always so busy to start with
|
karen
|
Not a great week, this week, as walking time has been curtailed. Jaspa has been 'philosophical' about it. Have promised to make up for it next week
|
karen
|
Sadly as Jaspa and my daughter don't really 'go together' Jaspa has only had short walks and extra plays in the paddock lately.
Every time I see him, he does remind me of of the 'Gent' very much with a stiff upper lip and definitely does not do ' kissing'. Handshakes, fine - soppy stuff, no thanks
I have left an extra supply of bones for him - he is really enjoying those

Jaspa is such a handsome dog - a real head turner and boy can he jump! He was a delight to walk, very busy and interested in everything. I read that he likes cheese, so went armed with some and he came back at the double, sat nicely for it and took it very gently - and straightaway went off again to investigate something else. He was easy to walk on the lead and kept looking back at us as if to say 'can't you go any quicker?' Looking forward to our next outing.

Hi Guys,
A very warm welcome to our forum. Lovely to see you on here.
Jaspa doing very well. Happy to be in with the other dogs and they seem delighted to have him there.
Very keen on exploring all the new smells and sounds.
Very well behaved as only our Jasper can be!
Has started to give his terrier look when he is not overly happy about any situation but so far so good and content to be diverted.
Very happy with all the excercise and also very, very happy to be so admired where ever he goes!! LOL
We all know what a stunner Jasper is and just how many hearts he has won over

Had a lovely update that wanted to share with you all. Jaspa doing very well and really starting to settle. Having odd terrier moments but on the whole just doing so very well.
Here is update from Jo :
| Quote: | Hi Dee,
Thanks for your call this morning it was great to chat about him and give you some positive news.
He's sunning himself at the moment and what a sun worshiper he is too, have to keep bringing him in as i'm sure he'd stay there until he was unable to breath!!
As I mentioned earlier he really has started to show a wonderful side to his personality and the character is beginning to surface, he has got a really cheeky sense of humour and i'm just keeping it all crossed that as he relaxes he really does enjoy the benefits and what life has to offer.
I do sense that he's starting to relax and he appears to enjoy the routine and being around the dogs, like you said he's not in the limelight, I really feel he's trying to belong especially as he's now made the decision to sleep in one of the beds in the lounge rather than be on his own in the hall, bless him it brings a tear to my eye just thinking of it!!
I've attatched a few photo's as promised and I hope you think he looks happy too.
Take care, speak soon

So delighted after reading Jo's email and having a chat to her. Just look at the latest news :
| Quote: | Hi Dee,
Sorry I missed your call, Jaspa was holidaying on the Isle Of Skye and wait for it he was an absolute angel
We hired a cottage and you wouldn't think it was Jaspa we took, the garden was fully enclosed but only with wire netting and of course the other side had to be a field of cows!! After 2 days he wasn't interested and only shouted about it when they were right up against the fence, can you believe it!!!
Well he spent the week nearly entirely off lead, on the beach or by the Loch and only was restrained when we walked up a couple of hills, I cannot tell you how proud I am of him.
I had some great photo's of him on has adventure but I cannot find the camera anywhere so i'm hoping i've left it at the cottage!!
Hope you're well
Jo
