jack rusell x labrador?.......any ideas, please.

We went to the rescue centre this afternoon to look at some rescue puppies, they think they are Jack rusell x lab, gorgeous to look at, white and black.
Mum is definately a pure Jack Rusell, Dad they are not too sure about, the boy pups look lab like so that is the sort of conclusion they have come too.
Worried about how big they may get and what future problems they may incur.
Any input before Thursday would be very much appreciated.

Cross breed pups you have to take your chance. Rescues tend to pass off as Labx  or whippet cross as it engenders appeal. You will need your sleeves rolled up if a terrier cross.

Yep, if you are happy to have a Labrador or a Jack Russell then it's the pup for you! Don't take a chance based on paw size!

Thanks, that what I thought, jacks are my all time fav, and although they said she will be jack size, I am sort of sceptical as I certainly do not want anything as big as lab, i def want terrier. !!(much to my 17 year old lab loving sons annoyance.)

fell  in love with a 3 year old jack while we there, you know i wish i could pick them all up and bring them home
Cheers guys for your help

DEFINITELY don't go by paw size!! my Lucie is a JRT/collie and had tiny paws when she was little so we thought she would be more JRT size. She kept on growing though and is now just a bit smaller than a collie, still with tiny paws!! If you definitely want a JRT or terrier and nothing bigger, i would say go for the slightly older dog (maybe 6 months) so that they are more or less fully grown. I have had a rescue dog from a pup (Lucie was 10 weeks) and a rescue dog that was 6 months when i got her (my last dog Dee) and i would go for the older dog every time!!!! She was MUCH easier and i didn't feel like i missed out on anything at all!!!

I love the older dogs too, Wizzy was 2 when we got him, and perfect from start to finish, however my 14 year old daughter wants to do puppy. I understand that she wants to do that but I am not sure I want the hard work of a puppy.
Perhaps I need to keep looking.

Hi,
If your daughter wants a puppy maybe she should be doing the hard work - not you!  Very Happy
I love puppies but wouldn't have one. I let me daughter spend some time with a puppy and she reconsidered wanting one Wink

Ha ha
Thats sounds like a plan - but I know I would fall in love and then trouble would be giving it up , would love to foster - problem is I become too attached, any way I will fill a form in for adoption, perhaps this little jrt might be what I am looking for, then perhaps someone can call me.

What 14 year old doesn't want a pup? However, puppies are hard work, chews stuff up, have temper tantrums, poo and wee all over the house and with all the training in the world, you cannot guarantee how that cute puppy is going to turn out! Some of the way a dog matures is down to genetics.

Far better to foster/adopt a dog that is proven with children. Believe me...puppies hurt when they gnaw you!

I had a litter of Jack Russells x Corgis bought in a year ago. They were labelled as this by the back yard breeder because she felt that they would be easier to sell. One of the boys has been returned recently and guess what...near on pure Border Collie!

I told my daughter this afternoon, she was upset but understanding, it so hard trying to please everyone, rescue is the only way for me, just wish we had a larger rescue centre near us,
