Iris Shih Tzu type DOB 10.07 GloucestershireIris lovely white/tan rough coated terrier (now clipped) female. About 2 years.

Iris (short for good looking!) arrived into our care yesterday. She is a Shih Tzu type but her nose isn't a 'squashed' so hopefully she wont have breathing problems. Very nice natured . Anxious in the van from Wales as she was face to face with another dog..but took up the invitation of my passenger seat and settled beautifully once she got bored of the moving views. Iris was spayed on the 15th October.
Just the one usable pic which gives you a glimpse.

I met little Iris today with Janet and Alwyn - what a little live wire
Not a moment lost in idleness, its go go go. We tried hard to capture her on camera, this is the best we could come up with -
Don't think this is a little girl that will be with us very long

Another photo from yesterday - she's a bit of a wriggle bottom!

She is sooo pretty!!! She looks like a JRT at the moment but it will be interesting to see if she looks more like a Shih Tzu when her fur grows!!!!!

My daughter and I had the pleasure of walking Iris today. Her face has (I think, anyway!) a lot of Shih Tzu about it, and her character has a lot of loveliness about it!
I wanted her to take things easy, because it's not long since her op, but she clearly had other ideas, jumping for joy when we went in her kennel She was quick to snuggle in for a fuss though, so I managed to keep her feet on the ground after that. Another lovely RR dog....

Wriggly bottom or not - those are beautiful shots of her. Who could resist that little pink tummy with black spots on it... I doubt you lot will be walking her for long so make the most of it!

We took Iris out today for the first time. She's so full of life and enthusiasm and just wanted to say hello to everyone and have a good look around. Although Iris does know sit, she wriggles around so much, her bum doesn't stay still for more than a few seconds and her tail hardly stops wagging. She loves being fussed and is a real joy to be with.

Oh what a shame. Hope she get's through it soon - perhaps someone will offer to foster her?

Little Iris went to the vets this morning and she has developed a fever and has swollen glands. She has had an injection and is on antibiotics to help her through. She, however, doesn't seem to relaise that she is not well and was as enthusiastic in her greetings as ever
She has been left some warm bedding for the weekend and hopefully, if she can be kept quiet, the medication will begin to work quite quickly.
Such a good little girl, both in the car and in the vets. Just wish she had a warm home to stay in
While we were there, she was microchipped as well.

How old are the children in question? She loved my 12 year old when she walked her last week. Mind you, Iris loves everyone, bless her heart!

Hi,
Iris seems such a beautiful dog!! -( in all ways.) Just the kind of dog I am looking to give a loving home to but am moving from own house in London to Tunbridge Wells - overlooking the common - probably mid Jan. Also have a nine year old ginger cat called Clarence... she does seem a lovely dog, a one off - Wyatt was another of my favourites. Hope she is well soon.

irisHi karen, she is a beautiful little dog. hope she gets better soon and the family who get her will have a friend for life, so sorry to hear that she is not well. cannot stop thinking about her.

I am pleased to say that the lovely Iris is snoozing by my feet as i type!!!! She is a lovely little dog and not only does her bum never stop moving, neither does her tail!!!!!!!!
She was very good in the car, she kept trying to sit on my lap for a bit but soon settled into the passenger seat (don't worry, she had a doggie seatbelt on!!) She was sick towards the end of her journey but it is a very long way
She LOVED going for a walk and just kept trying to follow Lucie. She seems more responsive to the tone of your voice, rather than her name but came back happily when called (she was on a long line so wasn't off the lead but did have a bit of freedom)
She wouldn't eat anything this evening but it has been rather a big day for her so we will just see how she is in the morning. She was very excited to see the cats (they were less impressed with her!!! ) but not in an agressive way, just curious. She sniffed my youngest cat without an ounce of agression, she hasn't met the rabbits yet!!!!
Her cough is quite bad, it's very deep and hacking and i am hoping that her medicine starts to take effect soon. I gave her some honey to soothe her throat-she wasn't impressed at that, she DOES NOT like honey!!!!!

So pleased you were there for her. She's bound to get better soon now, lucky girl.

Oh I so hoped that little girl was headed for your home Tina. The best care in the world from you will make her better in no time.
Seriously so pleased she is in a loving home rather than a kennel.
Give her a big doggy kiss from her mate Suzi and all at RR who are routing for her.
So Happy.

Spoke to Tina this evening and I could hear Iris coughing in the background. She is quite bad.
So relieved she isn't in kennels and she couldn't be in better hands - well done Tina

I am a bit of a worse Mum than Jilly as Iris has been mixing with Lucie, despite her cough They are both having collidal silver in their water to hopefully prevent it from passing from one to the other. Her cough still sounds bad but she is coughing less often now that i have taken her collar off I get a bit paranoid about leaving dogs without a collar and tag on, even in the house!!
Lucie changed her mind about Iris in a split second this morning! She went from grumbling at her to thinking she was her best mate and they have been playing most of the day!! They are both having a lovely time (the cats still aren't impressed though!!)
Iris saw the rabbits this morning and was again interested but not in an agressive way. I think she has the instintg to chase of they moved quickly but not in a harmful way.
She doesn't seem to understand stairs. She is getting the hang of the ones that go up but is still baffled by the ones that go down!! My Mum is patiently trying to teach her how they work
Thanks for all the praises for our home everyone, if only you all knew the truth At least it's better than kennels...slightly and should give her the chance to get better

I've been there and I know ... a lovely home and a million times better than kennels ... have you been drinking Tina?!!!
If anyone has seen Tina's Lucie they can vouch for how wonderfully trained she is and such a great dog with a wonderful personality. Tina has brought that out in her ... don't let her kid you! Iris will learn heaps during her time with Tina & Lilian believe me!
Tina is just being bashful this evening!

I am over the moon that little Iris is with Tina D - can't imagine a better place for her
So pleased that her cough is getting better - hopefully the medication and attention she is getting is all kicking in and she wil be fighting fit in the blink of an eye
Lovely girl, in a lovely foster home, with the lovely Lucie to teach her the ways of the world - just needs the forever home to make everything complete

The only reason I am not mixing dogs at the moment with little Suzi is because my mum is 80 next week and I am going down with my gang of dogs. I don't think it would be fair if I took kennel cough down to her as she has the lovely Evie. So I promise nothing to do with being a good mummy just trying not to spread to mums dog.
I would love them all to mix but am trying to keep at bay for mums sake. However, you know what will happen. They will all go down with it no matter what.
Suzi has a lot of company with us adults and the dogs all know they are in the house when we do the time sharing shifting around for toilet runs.
Suzi still absolutely delightful. Back to the vets on wed for a check up about tummy. Hopefully some very good news for her as well. Report later.
Sharon told me you were a great fosterer Tina and I believe everything she says so lucky little Iris.

IrisHi Tina how is Iris, feeling better I hope. She looks so sweet, its horrible when they are not well,I do look everyday to see how she is doing. Thought you also would like to know Boycie is doing really well and brings me the post, he even tries to open the letters for me and obviously gets a little peckish as he also has a chew round the corners and edges.

Jilly: that does make me feel better, and less neglectful!!!
Sharon: i was just thinking about Boycie this morning!!!!! I am glad he is doing well. If his post habbits get to much for you, you can always send him to me??
Iris seems to be doing much better. Her cough sounds as loud but is MUCH less frequent!! Her stitches came out yesterday and it is all looking good. Although Iris is very lively when exciting things are happening (walks, food, people comming in), she is calm at other times. She is sleeping off her walk by my feet right now.
She has learnt a good few things already while she has been here:
1) If you sneak downstairs at night, you get a much more comfortable bed on the armchair, instead of the nasty dog bed
2) Honey actually tastes nice and helps a poorly throat and is not the work of the devil as was first thought (medicine and tablets ARE still the work of the devil and must be avoided at all costs!!)
3) The doggie toy-box holds LOADS of delightful things!
4) "jumpy-up" dogs do not get fed first, their leads on first or more attention. Those things come to dogs with all four feet on the floor (she does forget this one when things are REALLY exciting!)
5) Cats and rabbits are NOT for chasing but birds in the park are
and her biggest achievement of all?...
Stairs are not scary and are actually quite easy to work!!!!
Her recall is getting better and she now comes back about 99% of the time (don't worry, she is still on a long lead!!) she is getting better on the lead but does still pull (i think she just likes to be in front all of the time, even when she has no idea where we are going). She doesn't seem to be phased by anything-even donkeys that we met on Sunday!!! She doesn't seem to mind loud noises like fireworks (although we haven't had any really big ones yet) or traffic and just seems to approach everything with a lovely happy smiley face!

Lovely up date and so pleased to her that little Iris is doing so well
Fish paste smeared all over the tablet works quite well - am sure you will have loads in your cupboard

tabletsAs I discovered last night with Rhianna tablets in cheese get spat out and the cheese eaten off the outside of the pill. However, a pill at the back of her throat with a piece of cheese popped in her mouth straight after forces her to swallow in order to be able to chew the cheese. Ha! Out smarted Rhianna! Normally it takes me a while to out smart her, not sure if she is particularly bright or I am particularly slow.
Glad Iris is doing so well, she is sweet.

irisGreat news that iris is doing well, bet she feels better now her stitches are out. Great to know that she is learning new things. I look every day to see what the latest goings on are, keep up the good work.

Iris' perfect home is out there and will be delighted at the thought that they now have a chance of homing this lovely girl. Olivia, you seem smitten, have you submitted your questionaire yet???
I am pleased to say that Iris never stops learning and has now learnt not only to chase a ball but to pick it up and bring it back (before she would chase it, sniff it, poke it with her nose and come back without it!!). She still doesn't get that she should leave it when she gets back though
She seems to like everyone, including kids and i have taken a bone and other "tasty" treats off of her and she didn't make a fuss or show any agression. She doesn't seem to like water though and will not join Lucie swimming!!!! She just stands on the bank and continually "tells" Lucie that she shouldn't be in there, it is dangerous and that she should come out immediately!!!!
|
karen

I am sure the just the right person will come forward for Iris and, in the meantime, it sounds like she is having an absolute ball

As long as Lucie does not teach her too many of her naughty habbits too!!!
| Quote: | | do you think she could live with 3 cats? |
She is living with two cats and two rabbits at the moment I would say that they need to be fairly confident as Iris will go up to them and say hello (i.e. sniff them all over!! ) and she may chase them a tiny bit until she learns from you that that is unacceptable-but her chasing is never malicious, same with the rabbits

Hi Tina just wondered how Iris is getting on, Boycie sends lots of licks
Sharon
|
Tina D
|
Iris is getting on very well, sorry that i haven't updated properly for a bit (Sharon, you know that Boycie can come and stay with me for some real licks and cuddles any time he wants. I cannot guarentee you will get him back though, i do love him!!!!)
I am pleased to say that Iris' cough is MUCH better!!!!!! I used to know wherever she was when we were out just by listening as she sounded like an old, asthmatic, 50-a-day smoker!!! Now she is silent like a ninja It still sounds quite bad when she coughs but it is very infrequent now (before it was every couple of minutes). She still doesn't like her medicine but will take it now without a fight.
She is also doing much better on the lead, she still pulls a bit, but nowhere near as much as she used to (she is very strong for a little dog!!) she can now do stairs like a pro and will fetch back balls and toys when they are thrown (she still hasn't quite got the concept of "leave" yet though ) She ha spertty much mastered the "come back and sit (and get a nice treat)" when we are out and it is only when she sees something very interesting that her old deafness seems to kick in
She is a lovely and very affectionate dog. She loves to be stroked and praised (well who doesn't??!!). She doesn't seem to be scared of anything (well, nothing that we have found yet) and doesn't seem to have a malicious bone in her body. She seems to love people, children and other dogs equally. She she loves it when you play with her but will also happily play with a toy by herself. She still sometimes steals "feet" things (shoes, socks) but doesn't chew them, just takes them to her bed (she could do it whenever she wanted, as she has constant access to a shoe rack but it is only when she is VERY excited!)
Anyway, here are some pictures of the lovely lady. She is actually prettier in real life (i think) she has a shi tzu face but a very long body like a sausage dog-she is VERY fast on her little legs though!!!!
"Yeah, alright, that honey isn't bad...i suppose!"
"This bed is MUCH comfier than my own one!!"
"Oh please don't make me get up!!!"
"FIGHT!!!!!! No, not really, we are just playing!"
"I am ready, lets go!!"
"This is my model pose..."
And this one is quite dark (as it was very early this morning) but it is a good "action" shot, the flapping ears give her more speed!!!

irisAny news on iris? Has she been rehomed? or is she still waiting for her forever home, be patient little one it is out there. Hows her cough.?
|
Tina D

Iris has not been homed yet, her potential people couldn't come until next weekend. She is meeting them Sunday so keep your fingers crossed!!!!
She is doing very well, she still has a teeny-tiny bit of a cough first thing in the morning or if she gets very excited but nothing compared to what it was!!!! She has finished her medicine so we will see how she is in the next couple of days.
her training is getting better slowly but surely, she (mostly) comes back when asked and will stand patiently to have her paws dried when she comes back in from a walk She still pulls on the lead but not as strongly as before and will walk nicely by your side every now and again.
She curled up with Lucie last night and they slept like that for about 20 minutes until Lucie decided to move (antisocial dog!!) and Iris met a big boxer/staffie x who wanted to play and was very interested in her "personal space" and tried to have "relations" with her Iris was very good, not agressive at all and was even flirting with him a bit when his owner took him away-hussy!!!
She is still very excited by the rabbits and cats but still seems to only want to sniff them all over. She seems to be getting more adventurous as she is feeling better and will go a bit further afield when we are out for a walk-she never tries to go out of sight though and if you change direction and whistle, she comes pelting after you!!
She met my cousin's children at the weekend (they stayed overnight), they are 11, 9 and 18 months and Iris was good with all of them, she showed no aggression and was gentle with the baby.

Same here!!!! Fingers crossed you all fall in love with each other!!!!
I have learnt a valuable recall tool for the lovely Iris. I take a ball and one of those ball thrower things with me and will always say "ready...steady...GO!!" before i throw the ball. When we are out, Iris will mostly come back, but if she spots something very exciting she will gallop off and is deaf to her name I have tried calling her all excitedly or sternly...nothing! However, if she is in mid-gallop and i shout "ready... " and hold the ball thrower up like i am going to throw the ball, she skids to a halt (you can practically see the smoke coming off of her paws!) and comes running back!!
I wonder if Ceaser Milan has tried that one??!!

My lovely "Little I" went to her new home last night
I think it is safe to say that love was in the air!! Iris managed to give her new mum and dad lots of cuddles (and washed her new dad's face for him! ) We went for a quick walk where Iris impressed them with her weeing on command!! She left, snuggled up on the backseat with her new mum next to her and sitting on some lovely blankets that her new granny had crocheted especially for her.
I was a bit sad to see her go but i am very happy that she has gone to the best homed possible and I am sure she is waking up this morning unable to believe how lucky she is with her new life in the country!!!!!!

IrisIris had an excellent car journey home. She settled quickly, no sickness at all and from Reading snored happily!
She has now had a good first day in Gloucestershire.
2 little mishaps at lunch today, but otherwise very well behaved - no barking at visitors, no jumping at visitors, plenty of playing and came back when called when out on the long walk [on an extending lead], she showed no interest in going off after other dogs she spotted.
Her cough worsened after her evening walk but cough medicine and honey fixed that.
Tomorrow the 2 girls from next door [luckily for them] have no school so are coming in to play with her and walk her.

IrisTina,
try Susie Moo - 's' not 'z'. His picture is very much a grey terrier.
Iris is loving Gloucestershire, but not the rain! We've dodged downpours and been out on the Common. However, she runs for home when the rain comes down.
Yesterday she ate my shoes - but i blame Richard, as he was at home and incharge.
House training is on going, but a warm house and puppy pad has more appeal than outside in a storm. We'll get there.
