I'm new

Hello, my name is Pat and I love dogs.
All dogs, but jack russell terriers have signed their names across my heart.

My first jack was Spotty and she was rescued from a bad situation with a neighbour. The kids used to kick and pull her so the father took her to work, where he hit her with a roof tile for peeing in the van in which he'd locked her all day. Her head injury meant she needed vet treatment, which they wouldn't do as they knew it would cost.  So we ( hubby Paul and I) took her to the vet, paid the bill, and we kept her.
She lived safe in our love until she passed away aged 18.

When she died I was distraught. I couldn't be in the house without her and couldn't bear to come back after I'd left.
A week passed and Paul suggested we go look at the Battersea dogs.
I was dubious, but he said to me, it doesn't change the love we had for Spot, but somewhere some jack needs our help. It may not be able to wait til you feel the time is right.

I looked on the website first before we went to see if they had any jacks, and I saw Missy who had been resident for almost 2 years.

We went there, we had an interview, we were told our circumstances meant we could have any one of their jacks. We asked for Missy.
We were told she had many problems, she was a rehab jack - but all her problems sounded to me like terrier traits magnified into problems because of time in kennels. We persisted. We met and fell in love. She was the complete opposite to Spot in looks - which was good, because we wouldn't compare.
After three visits we brought her home.

We did have some settling in problems and she did bite me when I retrieved a lamb chop from her mouth which someone had carelessly left on the pavement with their other rubbish!
But that was only because she hadn't learned "drop" which we taught her not long after  Very Happy

We've had her 3.5 years now and we're still in love. She's a delight and we laugh at her mischief daily. Its even given rise to her nickname MissyChief.

So there's a long post introducing me, Paul and Missy.

How did we come here? I was reading a post about Spice on a dog forum - and I fell for her. I think she's gorgeous. I read she was in Battersea originally so that brought her close to my heart too.
You took her on from Battersea so that makes you special to me.
I wrote to Sharon asking about leaving you a legacy in our will as I couldn't find that info on the website.

Sharon gave me the answer and encouraged me to join the forum.
So here I am.
We sent a donation through the Terrier rescue site for Spice, to help with her kennelling fees. I have also added a link to terrier rescue on  my personal website and my blog - and have instructed IT to install a link on my business website.

Now, I 'm going to try to add a  pic or two of Missy...

That's our girl

Owwwww Pat, I'm so thrilled you joined us and your story has made my eyes fill.

A sincere welcome to our pack, thank you for sharing your love of JRT's with us.  One look at your girl and it just makes you want to scream WHY ... why wasn't she wanted, she looks and sounds absolutely adorable and she would be to a terrier fan.

Lets both keep our fingers crossed that Spice finds what your girl has found in the not too distant future.

Thank you also for your support - it is much appreciated and will be put to good use I assure you.

Enjoy the forum.

Best wishes
Sharon

Thanks for the welcome Sharon.
We asked the same question ie Why? And we were told apart from her behaviour issues, there was also the fact she was 8 years old when we adopted her, which put off the first-timers. It didn't bother us as we knew they can live to a ripe old age, as Spotty did. The natural tail put off some experienced owners, sadly, who still preferred docked. I love her full tail, its glorious!

Karen, I tell you honestly if Missy was capable of living with another bitch , Spice would be here. Sadly, she's not - but there's some fervent praying going on  - would love to see that girl out of kennels.

Claire, thank you. She is a wee smasheroonie  Laughing We wouldn't trade her for the world.

Welcome

Welcome to the RR forum and thank you for supporting the charity.

Love the photos!  We adopted our JRT from RR last year and recognise that cheeky expression on Missy's face. We often look at Spice's thread too, and wish that we were in a position to have a second dog, but it's not possible.

It's lovely to hear Missy's story as it has such a happy ending!
