Huxley Fell terrier 04.04 Dorking Surrey
His Story: Hux was homed to his family at 1 yr after being owned by an elderly couple and kept in a chicken run. He has been cherished for 4 yrs.
Salient Points: Lived with other dogs harmoniously but his mate and offspring turn against him in the summer. Well trained and always loved. Keen hunting instincts, so if off lead placed on muzzle.
Advert: Huxley is a brilliant 5 yr old Fell terrier. He has had his life turned upside down twice now, through no fault of his own. 5 yrs is a lovely age as he has matured skills and that "energy" is beginning to tone down. he has hopefully 9-10 yrs ahead to look forwards to. A loving, sociable and well trained dog. He is high spirited and 'is what he is a terrier!' He has keen working instincts so needs to be in a terrier-proofed garden (6' panel fencing) and no cats or small furries. He is used to living with a Jack Russell bitch and his off spring. The pack turned against him in the summer and so now needs a home where he can enjoy affection; lovely walks and privileges as he is so worthy of e.g. likes to sleep on the sofa and run beside the bicycle!
Huxley is very special, and truly loved by his human family. Sadly his canine family have taken to attacking him and no end of attempts to reverse this have achieved the inclusive life he deserves. Here is the list commands he understands "Sit, down, wait, stay, off, leave, finished, bedtime" The family that offers this lad a home is going to be so over the moon, provided they themselves are 'terrier people' and delight in his spirit and gifts. Huxley is still with his family in Glos.
Please visit Huxley's individual thread, in Dogs needing homes in our care on our forum to find out more about him and follow his progress.
If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

Huxley arrived yesterday and was slowly introduced to the 'pack' as he had become very scared of dogs since his pack repeatedly turned on him. His instincts however are to trust and enjoy dogs company so now melded in and enjoying his friends. Clingy and needy as you would expect of a much loved dog having just lost his home. He is small and slender about 15" to the shoulder. Sweet so sweet.

Huxley is absolutely absolutely special! He is attentive and has that 'keen' terrier concentration. He is fun and loves to prompt play with the pack or delights in throwing a bone or toy about the garden..'puppy play'
He can be quite strong in his reactions say to noises in the night; people walking by (though in truth he isn't usually the first to start). He isn't too barky but he has a loud bark and he will talk to you. Huxley is what I call a doggie dog. If you are a not aware of dog language i.e. a dog that has grown up around dogs you can over reacted and judge their language. They use voice and mouth and gesture strongly and pitch in with life. They aren't shrinking violets nor should they be owned by them. Huxley is Fab. and all his interactions are well met by dogs within the pack but outside it is best to slip a muzzle on him as feinthearted owners will find his pitch a little full on and their dogs also, believing themselves to be human, may also recoil.
Huxley is the very best you can find in a terrier. He is a matured terrier nicely polished off; he sits in his own skin and 'what a gift what a gift! Oh AND very very loving. When he makes a beeline for your lap, he is face to face and licking your lips; nostiles and eye lids 'trying talking on the phone - just try!'

Huxley has a lovely family interested in meeting him on Friday. So down to Brighton we go with bucket, spade and rubber bone..and the charmer will be probably winning hearts or at the very least have a great day by the seaside!

We don't often meet this but having travelled 2 hours to reach Huxley's potential home gaping security breaches in the garden. We try to remember everything but dont usually have to ask have you checked your fences for foxholes as the questionnaire prompts that. They naturally check their garden security in prep for a dog's arrival and certainly prior to a homecheck. Faced with a lady who hadn't really begun to understand basic terrier security; terrier behaviours. Talking the talk but not hop skipping and walking the walk. Nice lady but very untuned, didn't even attempt to relate to Huxley who is sooo inviting. So at least the homecheck will have served to awaken basic factors for getting a dog and dissueded her against a terrier. They so need us to be acutely aware 'for them and their safety'. 2 hours journey back
Oh how Huxley loved his day out today. Initially quiet in the back crate but once Tia came out the car he took prized passenger seat and was such fun. Learnt to steer the car with his front paws on the dash board; barked furiously at walkers by and motorbikes. So wonderful to see his alertness; bright eyes scanning and oh so serious attitude.

Oh, Bugsy Bear. Sorry it didn't happen for you, but far better in the arms of xxlynne where you are safe and loved. The right family will turn up for you I'm sure. Never mind, you finally got to see the seaside - maybe it'll be the mountains next time? Cuddles from Pooch xxx

Well time to reveal what Huxley got up to today...he found his way home! Huxley is now proudly owned, foibles and all, by Joan, Tony and Jane and each one loves him more than the others. So lovely to walk beside Tony walking Huxley on his muzzle and no apologises required..'terriers will be terriers!' Jane's delight that dreams do come true. Yes another lottery winner! And Joan has her companion, who can share affection and lots and lots of laughs. All of their eyes shone but Huxley's most of all! Take it from me Huxley is in Earthly heaven!
(Huxley's homing allows us to take little Kathy into our home who is in a bad way and needs lots of care. Thank you!)

Huxley's new homeThere were a few whimpers last night, after Lynne left but our boy soon settled and very quickly gained a new admirer, our friend Barbara, very much a doggy person, who was captivated her. He rewarded her by lying on the sofa beside her, head in her lap snoozing for the next hour.
Huxley slept well. (Better than I did as I kept a low light on so he wouldn't be confused or anxious on waking.) Out into the garden at 6.45 and then breakfast. We're doing well!
We've had a great day. Gone for a walk, another walk to the vets to be weighed (11.8kg), playing with and destroying some new toys and eating up all his dinner.
Photos coming shortly!

Yippee ! Doesn't he look happy and so at home. What lovely lovely photos. PS: just in case no one found out, Huxley purrrs (really) when he's ever so contented and being stroked with both hands, from muzzle down to shoulders. And he doesn't mind being kissed on the top of his head!
