How do you get two dogs to play together?

Holly will walk up to Tex, thump the floor with her two front feet, wag her tail excitedly and nudge/poke him with her nose.  She does this repeatedly until he has had enough and grumbles at her and walks away.  Seems like she wants to play - she does it often.  Tex plays with balls and toys, but not dogs. Seems like a daft question, but is there anything I can do to encourage him to play with her? She only does it to him and is not interested in Sadie.

If Holly can't get Tex to play I'm not sure you can do much about it, better just get another more playful one to play with Holly so Tex can be a Billy no mates happily on his own Laughing

Then tell me how to STOP my lot playing and driving me up the wall  Laughing

Will they both play with a ball with you ? We found that Levi gradually started to play with Dave after they played alongside each other - much like when toddlers do parallel play  before they learn to really play together :D

Suspected there is not much I can do and that if I managed to trigger it I might regret it LOL! How about ... swap one of your playful ones for my Billy no mates! JOKING!

Nope, only one that is interested in toys/balls is Tex - the other two don't understand what the obsession is  Rolling Eyes

Suspect only solution is to get another playful dog ... oh dear what hardship!  *Dreams of Carmen!* Razz Just got to work on the OH first and don't think I've a hope in hells chance of winning this time! Never mind.

Meantime Holly 'the now snub nosed Westie' gives herself regular headaches bopping Tex with her nose repeatedly!

We ended up with 4 dogs initially to get a friend for a playful one who decided not to play after all.........

Do you want to play all the time Sharon? Laughing

How old are both dogs, often an older dog can't be bothered to play with a younger dog, or the younger one is too rough, etc.

I don't bother if mine don't want to play, Bonnie doesn't want to much these days, Tilly will play with Dolly at times but Dolly wants to play all the time.   I leave it up to my dogs.

Cyril's idea of play is humping all the girls. Rolling Eyes

I generally leave them to do their own thing and don't really need to step in for anything other than door/visitor management.  They get along really well - they share all beds, are fed in the same room etc and sort out any little minor squabbles themselves.

So I don't really 'want' them to play as such - whatever they want to do, but it's sad to see that Holly (9 years old) desparately wants to play with Tex (7-8 years) and I'm not sure whether; a) he knows what she is asking him to do  Confused or b) he knows exactly what she wants and is not up for playing  Rolling Eyes !  But she keeps on trying!

Oh I completely sympathise Sharon! Tizer tries so hard to get Charlotte to play but all she manages is a bit of 'bitey face'. She also allows him to nibble on her leg like corn on the cob, but that's it  Sad  They do sort of play ball together though which is nice.
It does make me sad when he bows at her and does little bounces and she just looks at us all blankly like she has no idea what to do.
