Holly, Westie, 8 yrs old, Essex

Holly came into our care today.  She has had a few homes, had puppies but has been own recently by a lady who loved her but couldn't offer her what she needed with working full time.  Holly is being fostered by TinaD.  We are homechecking a family this weekend, abd will be spayed during the week.
Tina D

What a sweet little darling this lady is!!! She is a tiny Westie and has mixed in with my lot with no fuss or stress. She is fine with Lucie, my ntwo cats and my two rabbits. She had a little sniff of all of them  but didn't show any excitement or agression to any (i don't think she has an aggressive bone in her body!!!) She likes a lot of fuss when you are home but is happy to be left also. She doesn't seem to want to/understand how to play and looked mystifed when Lucie kept getting her to play last night  Laughing Shows no interest in any toys or anything but quite likes her food  Laughing She gets quite excited when she goes out (but doesn't bark or anything, just gets more 'waggy') She doesn't really pull on the lead and happily trots along at your feet whenover the park. She happily let a young girl stroke her over the park tonight. She is housetrained and does her 'business' as soon as she gets to the park. She doesn't have the sweetest breath  Laughing and seems to scratch a bit but maybe her change in diet will sort both out?? She is very well behaved and a complete darling, you would struggle to meet a more placid and gentle dog.

Pictures to follow!!!!

Laughing She sounds wonderful - how is your supply of biscuits and liver cake Laughing

Sounds like she has landed in the perfect transit lounge Wink

She hasn't actually tasted any!! i have said before that i am a very bad mummy and the only time Lucie gets liver cake or biscuits is when she is pleading for scraps at fundraisers!!! I am a meanie, aren't i!!?? Maybe i will give them both a biscuit tonight. holly definitely likes her food so i am sure she won't turn anything down!!  Laughing

She is still being very good. She has had a few 'accidents' in the house but it is still early days. It might be because she is drinking more than she is used to because she is getting more excercise. She is still fine off the lead and follows right by your feet, she is getting a bit more adventurous and will venture off a tiny bit if the smells are just right  Laughing She has the usual delightful habit of rolling in fox or dog poo  puke_r but she seems to scratch the ground just before she does it so if you watch her carefully you can stop her from doing it! If i put Lucie's food down first she will try and eat it: cue Lucie (who is sitting waiting for me to tell her she can have it) looking at me as if to say "Muuuuuuummmmmm!!! She is eating my dinner, please make her stop, I'm huuuuuuuunnnnnnnggggrrry!!" Holly does stop when you tell her that it is not hers though, especially if you show her that you have got her dinner!! He skin is still quite itchy but it is early days with the new food and it may be a bit of a habit for her?? We will wait and see if it gets better
Tina D

Pictures as promised:

Saturday on the way back to my house, she was very tired as it had been a big day!

This park is nice!

Wait for me!!

Faster than a speeding bullet!

I might just lay here for a minute and have a rest

Is that poo??!! I might just have a quick roll in it then!!

Laughing What a cutie  Laughing

She isn't at all prickley...so she must have been a Christmas baby!
Tina D

Holly is going to meet a family on Saturday!

She isn't at all prickly, the only time i have heard her bark is when a dog got a bit too interested in her lady bits. She only gave one small bark to tell him off and was back to her happy self straight after!

Her itchyness does seem to be getting slightly worse and she has started doing a funny sneeze/cough/wheeze every now and again. It doesn't sound like kennel cough or anything and doesn't seem to distress her. I am hoping both is down to the toxins and aditives from her previous diet coming out of her system. She is booked in with the vet on Monday but i will keep a close eye on her and take her before then if she needs it.

She is still a very happy dog and seems to have found her feet a bit now. She is no longer desparate for attention and will lay down in the same room as you without the need to be sitting on your lap (she has even gone to sleep in a different room a couple of times!!) She is definitely more lively and even chased one of my rabbits a bit yesterday! (i don't think she meant any harm, she was just copying Lucie playing with one of my cats!). She LOVES dinner time and going out and gets beside herself at both!! She HATES the rain and looks at us like we are the most evil people in the world when we make her go out in it!  Laughing  Laughing
Tina D

Holly met a lovely family today and all went well!!!! Their dog liked her and they got on well (they had a few growls but nothing serious). She is being spayed and microchipped on Monday so should go as soon as she is feeling well enough  Very Happy

Laughing Wonderful news  Laughing
Tina D

An anxious day today as my "Little Miss" was in the vet to be spayed. She is home now and is sleeping off her anesthetic. She had to also have three teeth out, her gums cut (due to an infection) and a lump removed from her mammory gland. She also has an ear infection in one ear, which we now have drops for. We are trying something to see if it alleviates her itching. She looks a bit sorry for herself but has already tried to come upstairs to find me when i dared to leave her alone for a bit! I am sure she will feel a whole lot better tomorrow.

Everyone in the vets fell in love with her and the vet nurse said that she had TWO people who would want her if she wasn't already reserved!!!

Sleep tight little one
karen

Confused Poor little mite - however, I am sure she is receiving all the love and care she could wish for. A good nights sleep and I am sure she will begin to feel better tomorrow.
Tina D

Holly is feeling much better! She even managed to roll in dog poo this morning!  puke_r she had a check-up at the vets yesterday and is healing nicely and her mouth no longer smells like something has died in there!!!!

Holly is also going to her new family this weekend!!
xxlynne

Great news...unfortunately Holly has a skin condition which gets worse with cats and rabbits. Her first family who we homechecked for had both cats and rabbits But her new family has neither and understands she has a skin condition and their love overrides this! Await further news Wink

Yep it sure does Wink Both John & I were both totally smitten by her on day one, but then we are already Westie fans as we have Sadie (an RR dog). Here is Holly - the girl we totally fell in love with ...

We have put her on Nature Diet Fish plus fish oil which we hope will help her skin condition. Would be interested to hear any other tips from Westie owners as we understand Westies are prone to this.  In fact our Sadie had some skin/fur issues which have now cleared up. Will be doing some research.

I will also now be focusing on looking for a cat/furry friendly Westie for the first family too and will be trawling the various sites I post the RR dogs on.

Could not go to a better home - a real Essex girl Holly is now. Well done Sharon and especially John who as we all know is a wonderful daddy to his pack and a wonderful man. Sharons not too bad either !!!
Dee

Congratulations to you all and also to the lovely Holly.

Is that michief shining out of those little eyes i see ??????????

If so in the right home for that!! LOL

Lucky, lucky girl and lucky, lucky gorgeous family xxxx

Well what can I say ... Christmas has indeed come early in our household - tinsel, bunting and party in full swing! Wink

Holly has been getting used to our routine and has been quick to pick it up.  We have had no house-training accidents and she goes to the door if you ask if she wants to go out and then off she trots, squats and returns smiling knowingly - she just knows she has been such a good girl!

She has slept downstairs with Lady & Sadie and we haven't heard a peep from her - not sure if she is in with one of them or on her own, but there are plenty of beds to go round. Of course Tex sleeps upstairs with top dog ... me!

She is very sweet natured and gives wonderful cuddles. Loves her walk with the pack and rubs along really well with them all.  They have all been very good with her too.  In fact, I noticed her flirting a little with Tex yesterday - the look on his face when she kissed him was "OK, well whatever ... pah women"!

She loves her food and I turned my back for a second yesterday and she managed to stick her nose in Tex's bowl while he was eating.  What did he do ... tried to eat it all up in record speed while her nose was in there!  Not a growl or anything ... he is such a good boy.  Have introduced natural live bio yoghurt to them all for desert!  They love it and it should help with Holly's skin/coat.

We are off to the vet tomorrow to get her spay stitches removed.  Will try and take some piccies at the weekend.

Oh and one more thing ... boy is she CUTE with a CAPITAL C!
xristine

I don't know that much about skin disorders in dogs but in humans it's quite often made worse by stress so it could be when she settles into the routine that it disappears.  Wink

She's a little terrier girlie - so of course she's cute!
Laughing

As you can't demand photos from yourself - I'll do it! Where are our photos????

Holly had her stitches out yesterday and all is well.  I also had the vet check her glands and those were done too!  Rolling Eyes

There is a fair amount of bed hopping going on in our house at the moment!  Holly has traded in sleeping with Tex and now favours the beanbag with Sadie tonight ... so fickle!

My new Westie friend Sadie ... (Holly left, Sadie right) ...

Sadie had a new haircut today and my mummy has promised me one just like hers soon ...

It's been a hard day keeping up with my new pack ...

Zzzzzzzzzz !

xristine

Holly knows that terrier girlies have to stick together!

Lovely pics - I especially like the sleeping beauty one!!
Jilly Allen

Holly came home - it just took her a few years to find you. How lovely to see her so loved and with so many doggy companions. She must think she has won the lottery - I know you do Sharon !

That special connection with a dog is without price or reason and when that devotion is returned it's a very special gift - can't beat it. Chuffed to bits here in Essex!   Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

the holly and the ivy... Laughing

Our new addition is doing very well  Very Happy  She has put on one kilo and seems to be enjoying her dinners, complete with Live Bio Yoghurt for dessert. We will be keeping a close eye on her weight, but the extra kilo looks good on her.

John called me today and was very excited!  Apparently Holly was trying very hard to coax Tex into playing which is new.  She was nose nudging him and play bowing, but he is being just a little coy and biding his time Wink Seems he is going to make her earn a game! So for the time being all is peaceful LOL!

Holly is also now the proud owner of a pale pink collar with 3 rows of diamontes on it ... well she is living in Essex afterall!

Here are a few new pics of her hogging the pillows on the bed this morning!

xristine

Those are gorgeous photos and she's now perfect since she has a pink collar! The last shot is my favourite... just love that expression.
