Hattie - staffiexcollie 13 Dec 1995 - 2 August '08Hattie chose me when at 7 weeks old at the animal sanctuary, she was the first of 4 litter puppies to come up to me and chew my shoes.
We were together from then on, through my chemo and her lumpectomy.
She had slowed down, but just a little, with what we thought were arthritic front legs, and was still lively and energetic, but on Saturday afternoon she collapsed with her back legs almost completely gone.
The vet came and found her spleen enlarged with a tumour which was probably a secondary from somewhere like her spine. He had seen her last month for her MOT and there was no sign of it then, so it must have been very fast growing.
On the positive side - she had her favourite left-over chicken for breakfast, instead of her usual tin; she enjoyed her normal morning walk, although a little slower and with lots of stops to check her pmails, she wasn't in pain and she died in her favourite doggy bed with me beside her.
I was her missus and she was my girl aka Hattie(big)bum
I am still devastated but I can feel her poking me with her nose, pushing my hand up, telling me to stop howling and find some other doggy girl who needs me.
