Gillie Ped. Lakeland 7 yrs Derby3.7.09. Gillie is up for rehoming again. Here is his new description. His thread below explains his journey so far within our rescue. Gillie comes into our kennels 7th July but currently with his family in Folkestone Kent.
Gillie is a 7 yrs old Lakeland Terrier, Pedigree KC registered from show lines. Oh how smart he is, in looks and intelligence. Delightful terrier nature, generally good with people and dogs. He moved homes at the end of March to share his life with another Lakie and it has been a successful homing. However, sadly Gillie has a hyperside to his make-up, 'highly strung'. If you've owned a Lakie you'll be aware when the adrenaline flows, they can get 'trapped' in the moment. Gillie is excitable and certain situations leave him difficult to manage e.g. visitors; passersby and thunder storms to name a few. These situations can lead to barking and if he gets very stressed i.e. fireworks he needs a planned strategy, restraint or sedation as he can bite 'inadvertently'.
Gillie needs a terrier family who can adore his cheekiness whilst managing the more quirky side to his nature. He needs time to settle and awareness so he isn't judged too harshly during this settling period. Gillie and his owner will need time to negotiate new routines and relate to each others expectations. An understanding that you manage a terrier , not that you train their innate nature out of them. Gillie would welcome living with another dog, particularly if they have a calming influence on his energies...so perhaps not another terrier. Gillie will need to have respectful visiting children but not to live with children or cats. Gillie has been neutered, vax'd, chipped. Gillie think 'Gielgud' an actor of genius, of dramatic persuasion who needs to be kept in touch with reality using calm, firm and reassuring owner. Lovely Lovely Gillie, rejoice in the many good times but be there for him to guide him and protect him from his own 'nature' when caught up in the moment.

| Quote: | Dear Lynne
Thank you very much indeed for collecting Gillie and bringing him to the
kennels for us. We really appreciate all your efforts for Gillie, and us!
We have a beautiful evening here in Folkestone, and have taken the two for a
walk on the cliff. Now we will try and settle them - some hope!
Thought you would like to see the first photos!
Will be in touch in due course to let you know how it is going.
Kind regards
Alison and Jonathan |

Aw such a beautiful sight.
Thank you guys for sharing that with us.
What a wonderful life these dogs have in front of them and the very best bit is they have no idea of just how wonderful it is going to be!!!

Gillie has begun to settle very well with us. After a second night of thunder and uncontrollable behaviour from Gillie, he suddenly started to come out of his shell and show his very playful side. His tendency to bite first and ask questions second has also all but disappeared, which has made handling him much easier and far more pleasant. We think Gillie has finally begun to accept us and his new home. Gillie seems to enjoy the longer walks he takes with Annie and me, and positively trots along at a fair rate – especially when he senses we are on our way home!! In the garden Annie is still trying to assert her authority, and constantly tries to “nip” Gillie. He is extremely tolerant, but every now and again puts her in her place! We have found putting a long training lead on Annie means we can very quickly get hold of her to correct her behaviour, and also try and stop her very annoying barking! If all else fails we put a muzzle on Annie for peace and quiet! She obviously hates that, but slowly is beginning to realise she can’t make so much noise all the time! Inside the house we have begun to settle into a very comfortable routine with the two dogs. Thankfully they both like travelling in the car and have accepted our very unusual routine when visiting auctions houses, artists etc up and down the country! Jonathan is absolutely delighted with Gillie, and keeps muttering about “how much more fun two dogs are”, and “aren’t we lucky to have two such super dogs”!!
Once again, we can’t thank you enough for all your help and support. It is extremely comforting to know you are there should the need arise for advice or a second opinion. And thank you again for your assistance with all this paperwork!
With kind regards
Yours sincerely
Jonathan and Alison (Riley)

Gillie lost control in a thunder storm last night and inadvertently bit his owner whilst grabbing curtains. This together with issues they have had in stopping him barking at people walking in the playground at the bottom of their garden has sadly meant Gillie needs to come back into our care and seek a new forever home. Gillie arrives into kennels on the 7th July.

Well poor Gillie didn't do well in kennels and so we pushed the boat out to get him out. Lyn has very kindly placed him with her pack and the pleasure is all hers.. he is the dog of her dreams
His paws were very sore coming out of kennels and he lost a lot of weight so a short pleasant walk in Marble Hill Park and then he came to meet Ted's new owners who VERY NEARLY offered Gillie a home as well! As you can see he made himself at home
Now settling in with his 7 westie friends and Chleo and Jay in Lyn's pad in Leics.

Hi Lyn,
Nice to see you with Gille (Lakeland Terrier) & Jay (Patterdale) who came to visit Oscar, our whippet, with Sky & Tom your Westies.
Both Gille and Jay behaved well and interacted with the gang. They played chase and retrieved toys without showing any signs of aggression and thoroughly enjoyed themselves whilst entertaining us all with their antics. All were hand fed with treats, again with no problems. Gille was very responsive and showed knowledge of a few basic commands; he also appears to have a loving nature. He walks well on the lead and did not show any aggression when meeting a passing dog.
Jay was also good natured and joined in the fun with no aggression. He seems to have boundless energy and would need plenty of exercise and stimulation. He appears to pull on the lead and is interested in pulling towards other dogs. In the right hands both would make excellent pets.
I'll give you the photos we took on a disc so you can do what you like with them but here's one to be going on with.
Best regards
Paul & Pat

GillieYesterday we had a short thunderstorm with a bit of lightening
Gillie got very annoyed with that person making all that noise.....
he shook the doormats, bounced like a gazelle at the doors barked a fair bit and got agitated, pacing to go outside and sort it all out.
The storm was not a rumbling deep one.
I had a trailing lead on him and let him lie down in the bathroom and he seemed quite please to have chased away the storm.
Gillie has become fixated on the rabbits and he has just stolen their carrots, he checked their cage and food and is doing a thorough inspection(inside the garage)
The two rabbits are outside in their pen with a certain Chleo watching them.
I love Giilie

Gillie has come back to us as he didn't cope with carers coming into his owner. He is back with his fosterer Westie Lyn and a little full of himself! Looking for an aware terrier home preferably with another dog to keep him '4 legged' and not '2 legged!'
