George Red Fell Terrier DOB 14.10.08 Crawley Area W Sussex
George has just turned 1 yr old and arrived with us on Monday 21st October having had an incident with a dog outside the day before. Typical terrier where they see, get overexcited, pull the lead out of the unexpecting owners hand and then grab and hold on to the dog. No blood but it was the last straw bless. It happens so often as a last straw incident with terriers. He is the playful, engaging terrier who was running off with this sock and that toy! Generally excitable when outside which ofcourse manifests as barking with glee. George has been living with another dog. He was engaging with the 10 yr old Shih Tzu trying to entice into play but alas not to be, so where else can I turn my fun. George would bark with excitement on seeing dogs outside. His owners adored him but weren't prepared for his behaviours. George needs a terrier home where he has lots of boundaries and lots of scope! Neutered, vax'd and chipped
George has grown up with a baby upwards..so 4 very young children were stimulating indeed. He has been excitable around the children and strict rules on food had to ensure, but was safe around then. However small furries and a neighbours duck were not safe and taught George how to scale a 6ft horizontal fence if he really needed to. The adolescent terrier just finding out about adventure, movement and chase. Yes 'working type' terriers make wonderful indoor companions, but need intensive input to achieve the sociable being 'in the field' as their chase and prey instinct surface and need taming! Beautiful terrier and to see him in kennels ... butter wouldn't melt Gatwick W Sussex.

George had a great walk today. Very happy to go out and be out. Met 3 labradors on his way out and he did very well saying hello then breaking out into excitement barking but I was pleased with him. You can see his cheekier terrier side in these pictures.

I walked George today and what a pleasure it was. He was very easy to walk on the extender lead. He's very interested in everything around him, but didn't pull a lot and came back when called.
He did get excited when we saw other dogs and barked a bit, but we didn't actually meet any face to face.
My impression is that he's a cheeky, happy, playful, typical terrier - lovely!

George has had an admirer. Now the holiday is over that admirer came to admire and take George home to see if Fiona can save him the embarrassment of kennelling but if all goes well Fiona knows all about our Fell Fellas and is eager to delight in him.

Evening update from Fiona :
| Quote: | Hi Dee
Just wanted to let you know about George.
After a walk with Lynne, I put George straight into the car and drove to Reading to meet my sister for lunch. George wasn't all that keen on being in the back at first but he was strapped in and soon dozed off. George met Minnie, my sister's dog (collie x spaniel) with no problems, he was very relaxed and after sniffs just lay down on the floor. We went to a pub for lunch and again, George lay quietly while we ate and was rewarded for good behaviour (after we finished) with a little bit of steak! Back in the car to Crawley and to the pet shop for food and toys. I booked him in for a wash and brush up next Saturday and George chose himself a pig's ear for later. Back to the house and an investigation of the house. He jumped straight on the bed and straight off again when I told him 'off'. Out in the garden for a comfort break and then it was bathtime. George stood obediently while I washed him and let me give him a good rub with the towel. Of course it wasn't good enough and he finished the job on my sitting room carpet...we'll work on that! He smells so much better. He's eaten, I showed him his bed and he had a snooze and now, having had a little cuddle he's curled up, asleep on the sofa beside me. I'm sure it's been a very confusing day for George but he's really been very good and taken everything in his stride. So far so good!
