George Patterdale ?3-4 yrsGeorge sweet love was such a dear dear dog. Very loving and full of fun. Working roots definitely
Sadly today we had another attempt to free him of his discomfort with his mouth tumour. Tim found it was in the bone and had spread into the nose. Despite the clear lab. result last time he felt the root tumour was aggressive and we would end up with radial surgery i.e. removal of the whole of the nose and nose area. We both agreed as he was under anaethetic it would be the kindest thing to do to let him go whilst it was just a magor irritant. A shock ..and very painful decision

Sadly for George and ourselves we delayed his arrival until today..had I known this little fella I would have run and got him 2 weeks ago.
George is MAGIC! He could be Jacko's brother..he is dark brown almost black so darker than Jacko..both are equally loving...he isn't so high energy..and both a well skilled with dogs but jacko's skills are only recently acquired. George is what I call bombproof! Twice today Glenn got nervous and went in on him ..5 mins later he is trying to play with Glenn. He loves dogs; adores people and from the moment he sat in the back of my car I felt I'd always known him. I have to say I have a passion for Pattis and that grows..we had 6 in the house this afternoon and 1 Patti cross.
Welcome home George he seems really happy to be here. booked in for neutering and chipping on Thursday and analysis of a swelling on his gums where his upper front teeth should be.

Sometimes it takes weeks to get the right picture of a dog..I'm still trying with Scooby Doo...but today..George is captured!
One the latter you can just make out the fleshy lump where his front upper teeth should be...He is soo handsome.. it only adds to his charm

I transported George on Tuesday.... he is a total charmer!!! He oozes personality and has some sort of magnetic quality that draws you to him! He is just lovely. Wendy was in the car with me and in the short time she was with him, didnt want to let him go. He is a very special boy and deserves a very special home.

George was neutered today...and the vet Christabel thought the lump on his upper teeth was a benign tumour. She called me in the middle of the op. to say it was an extensive tumour and she can't remove it all as it goes deeply and would need jaw and teeth excavation...she is worried..should she send to the lab. She is praying...we have sent it off to the lab.
George is fine , ate when he got back and settled.

The good news is George's tumour was of the benign variety but extensive. The only issue is Christabel was unable to get it all out so it will need to be watched should it begin to regrow.
Oh George you so much deserve this good news you are such a brilliant dog!

Haven't updated George's thread as he hasn't been well but now he is coming through the woods. His site where he was neutered became very inflammed almost from the moment of the op.. He has been in a lot of pain (well would have been had he not had painkillers). We were able to move him into foster with Wendy, Graham and Ziggy. Wendy has been (and is) the nurse and he is making good progress. George is fitting in well and beginning to assert himself within the household so all is well!
Doing really well on his walks and coming off lead in safe areas. George loves his walks and loves to shadow the people in his life. So pleased for George as he was in kennels for about 6 weeks and had been found stray so background unknown. Now having a great time. He has very good housetraining and a balanced approach to play with dogs. He is learning to play with toys seems a new venture.

Dear sweet George, George came back to me as he misjudged what to do when 2 teenage boys came home from boarding school and was greeted so excitedly by Ziggy his foster brother. He went in to "boasterous play" as his way of nervously greeting these 2 people. He lept up catching clothing as ?Is how I am meant to respond. Obviously the lads became frightened. I have checked back with the dog warden and she said he had been very successfully fostered with children..but yes he did grab the cat but did no damage.
Since George has been here I have semi-mixed him sometimes by himself sometimes in with the gang. He is a happy soul and adores what walks he gets . Completely healed from his neutering so now time for his vac. Loves going to the pub!
George presents as a cool assured gent with spirit! Sometimes he can take you by surprize and you think yep you are a Patterdale..yep you are longing for fun fun fun and a little mischief! Currently manifesting when he sees a bicycle or, thankfully slightly less so, with joggers..you have to allow him to see but with restraint as he will leap up barking. a little more work to be done here.

George is my kind of guy...love his shyness; love his spirit and his lick ability! He has been mixed with all the dogs and rubs along but at every opportunity he will be sitting by the door hoping for a walk. When out he loves it..can get a little over spirited but on the whole involved with it all people; dogs and smells. He reacts strongly to bikes on the tow path and so has to be short leaded and held aside as barks (creates) and lunges..and would run a chase. Ange our vol. dog walker took him across the bridge tonight to see how he was with traffic. Not reactive in the same way nor with bikes on the road..however has no road sense and would have flown across after a cat and remembered the cat on return!

George went to vets today for second vax. Christobel was happy with his mouth and affirmed to leave well alone its fine. George is very well now and very much alive on his walks . working with him on bicycles and it is only really when he is on the shared path with bikes that he does his hallah bulloh act. Sometimes at a distance he can react to chase but today he was actually watching standing still! Unlikely to come off the lead with his energy levels as they are currently but maybe with a more active life and less cylces he would. He knows his name and his recall most times is good intentional.

George is very well. He has had a further check with the vet as his mouth tumour has grown back but Christabel is very happy with it ..it is self limiting and told me not to worry
He is separated at the moment as the pack is quite volatile and as his a slightly nervous...better he has peace. However I fear he isn't getting enough occupation as he is very excited on his walks now. Has made me realise although he has a soft gentle nature he needs an active life to avoid him getting frustrated.

George's confidence has been declining and his walks have been becoming very fired up and he has been over excited in all interaction. Today I have juggled the pack around and mixed George back in with the mixed dogs who currently are safe; confident; playful dogs. (Fern; Brandy; Minxie; Toby; Tina; Coco; Hercules & Zena) He is nervous and has coming running up to hide behind me several times but also has had a few plays and poockering around the garden mixing in with the pack.

George had to be separated out so back into our bedroom (with additions coming into the pack).
I have just got back from the vets as I really feel we need see if anymore can be done to his tumour site. Tim is going to have another go at complete removal but may need to remove some of his front plate and teeth. We have given him full license on George's behalf to do what needs to be done just in case we can give George freedom from it as it does bother him. He is booked in for Thursday am.
Oh and how George loves the car standing with paws on the dash board...smiling...!

I took George for a walk today, he has a lot of energy and doesn't like bikes coming towards him, most of the time he will growl and bark, but if you keep him close to you and continue walking at a good pace he doesn't always react. He's a lovely dog and will come when you call him when he's fully extended on the lead.
Good luck tomorrow George
