fleecing donations and offers of help ...Hi,
Seeing the post about people not paying donations has reminded me that I have recently been made aware of a little 'scam' with petrol prices high and in the credit crunch ....... it appears no-one is safe !!
It seems that some people have the bare faced cheek to transport multiple dogs from different rescues and ask for 3 lots of transport money!!
Also, there have been cases of people 'making up' last minute transport runs, posting on forums and getting other generous people to donate directly to them via paypal etc ... (this way they can end up with several donations for doing nowt !!!!!)
I dont know how you would guard against 1, but it can be all too easy to be fooled by 2 if there's suddenly some "desperate dog" - my advice would be to stop and think before you hand over any money, it should be easy to check up, no matter how "urgent" it may be - they just rely on you panicking.
Also, I recently used a transporter reccommended to me on a rescue forum and if there was any other choice i would have taken the dog back home immediately because the person caring for the dog overnight was so unsuitable. So having had my fingers burned, it is worth checking any reccommendations if you can as I have had to deal with 2 more cases of unsuitable reccomendations recently aswell.
