We have a new generation of breeders..the hoodie generation of breeding for looks which has always meant 'price'. Instead of tail docking for 'working' they dock the ears incase they are used for fighting and for 'look'.

Cooper hasn't gone that way bless him..just look how gentle.
karen

So much expression in his face Exclamation Hadn't realised his ears had been 'cut'. That is dreadful Crying or Very sad

Bet he will win lots of admirers, though Exclamation

our boy Cooper

We picked Cooper up last night and its obvious he has had little or no training, however he is learning very quickly and has amazed us all by being a superstar on his walk today. He was fab off the lead and stayed with us or came straight back when called, he socialised well with other dogs and is now fast asleep at my feet!!
He may have a mountain to climb and lots of things to learn but he is eager to please and an absolute cutie  Very Happy, we are very lucky!

Here are some pics of Cooper in the garden, thinking about going in the water ( that was enough for him) at Bushy Park and following his dad. I tried to upload a photo of him and the cat but it wouldn't work.

Cooper is currently staying in kennels whilst mum and dad are on holiday. They were very upset to leave him, but fear not! Whilst you were getting teary, he has been making new friends. He is such a sociable lad and as gentle as a lamb with small dogs and enjoys a rough and tumble with bigger dogs. Flavour of the day today was Daisy and they frolicked for ages before he took himself off to bed for some dinner.

Cooper is a truly remarkable dog. He is a dream dog.  Everytime I go to the kennels I have to get my Cooper fix.

On Saturday I will be walking him and bringing him home awaiting his families collection so will witness their joyous reunion
xxlynne

Come on lets go..my family are will be wondering where I am!

Cooper drove to his grandmas and played with Max whilst Jo and Co sped down the M20 from France at the speed of light to meet him.   All together  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
EmmaSemple

That boy is a credit to his owner. Daisy will be lonely tonight...they were such a cute couple!  flower

Thank you to everyone who looked after my handsome boy!! He certainly looks like he has had a great time, when we finally got to my mums he was very excited but probably not as much as us!!
We went for a walk to Bedfont Lakes this morning where he met a 14 week old pup and he laid on the floor for her to climb over him - such a good boy Smile

Thanks all x
josta

Hi all

thought I'd let you know Cooper has been castrated today, he is wandering around the garden now looking very sorry for himself and I'm wondering how we will be able to keep him on the lead for 10 days!! Shocked Oh well I'm sure we'll manage.

Since we have come back from holiday my cats seem fine with Cooper and even our old boy - Tigger was rubbing up against Cooper this morning, he must have had an idea what was going to happen and obviously felt sorry for him!

Cooper is such a good dog, we can now leave the cat food down all day and he won't touch it, he mixes well with all dogs we meet at Bushy Park but he has found swimming a bit difficult. He loves the water but every time he goes out of his depth he just sinks and scrabbles along the floor until he can stand again! I have never had a dog that did not automatically know how to swim.

So far he has chewed nothing in my house but we took him to my sisters in Godalming, we went out for dinner and when we came back he had chewed a trainer to pieces! My sister was very understanding and Cooper had no ill effects from eating half the trainer.

Once he grows a bit more I will post some more pics

xx
Bud

after meeting this lovely boy at Paws lets see some more photos and have an update please!!
josta

Hi Cooper is still doing very well, he has had a bit of a rough week as he is learning that not all dogs want to play with him!! A large black lab went for him at paws and this week several other dogs have given him stern warnings. So it has been a big learning curve this week which has effected how he approaches other dogs now. He now waits with his tail down until they approach him, after sniffing if they seem friendly he trys to play, if not he runs after me. Its quite funny to see a big lad running from a JRT.
He did once go back and bark at the dog that went for him but with a quick reminder from me that thats not the best choice he came away!

He walks beautifully on the lead and considering he is only 8 months old is a very respectful pup. He sometimes forgets himself in the house and will try to challenge by barking and jumping at you, if he disagrees with you, but as soon as you stand up and remind him thats not appropriate he quickly returns to respecful Cooper.

Here he is with Honey when she was here.

I keep forgetting to take the camera out on his walks but will try to remember this morning.
xristine

Sweet pictures - the one of Cooper with Honey is so cute!!

Cooper is a lovely lad.  We were at Paws when the big black lab went for Cooper.  The lab was not neutered, and with Cooper only recently being old enough for his op, maybe the lab could still smell testosterone as  I am told that it takes a while to get out of the system.

We also saw Cooper meeting our JRT and showing very nice manners, even to the extent that he washed Moss' ears for him.  I think he is a sweetheart.
josta

here are some pic's of Cooper on his walk this morning.

Bud

Funny that......we were attacked by a big black lab and both me and Bud were bitten...what great photo's and what a credit to you!!
josta

Thought I'd post some more pics of Cooper

In this pic he is surrounded by the destruction he created in the garden, but he looks very pleased with himself!!

Here he is in his favourite position in the car on the way to Bushy park.

On Saturday at my mums he had a bit of a temper tantrum when I wouldn't let him play and chase the swing ball with the children. He started to growl but with some very firm and calm handling he did relax and then managed to sit and watch the swing ball calmly. I think my pup is entering his adolescence!! My house now has 3 teenagers!!! AArrrgggg  Wink  Wink

He's just working out if he has any future as a giraffe.

Wonderful photos of him - he really is handsome!

I just can not believe that in this day and age, people still think it necessary to crop dogs' ears; this abhorrent practice has been illegal since i don't know when, so surely anyone who does have their dog's ears cropped has to have it done illegally (by whom, I wonder - and maybe without anasthetic) and thus draws attention to the fact that the dog may be used for illegal purposes ie fighting.

Why do such people want to draw attention to themselves and their illegal activities, I'd like to know.
josta

We have been approached by a few people now who say they think he is a Cane Corso, if anyone has any idea or knowledge of the breed we would be most grateful. I know its an Italian Mastiff and that about it.
xristine

@Josta
Not sure if you've seen the wiki entry but here it is.

Whatever he is  - he is certainly a beautiful boy Very Happy
cobden28

Would it not be possible to contact the Kennel Club to find someone who either breeds or judges the Cane Corso, and get them to examine Cooper to see whether, in their opinion, he is a C. C. or not?

Obviously he wouldn't have a set of pedigree papers to go with him to his forever home but at least you'd have some idea of what he is!

This is just a suggestion, though.
josta

Thanks for your suggestions I have sent some pics of him to the British Cane Corso society for their opinion, but your right whether he is a Dogue De Bordeaux cross staff or Cane Corso, he is handsome!
josta

Thought I should update Coops thread as its been over 2 months now.

Cooper continues to do very well, we have been through some ups and downs with him. He ran out of the park about 3 weeks ago with my husband and it took him over 10 mins to catch him! Over the last 3 weeks we have been doing recall work everyday and concentrated walking on the lead, where he has to earn his freedom off lead by showing complete follower mode on lead.

This is having a great impact on the walk and he will now not walk infront of me off the lead unless he is given the ok.

We have also been taking him to a local dog park which has an enclosed area for dogs, after a walk on the lead around the perimeter of the lakes we take him for doggy time in the area. This is great for his socialising and adds more fans to the Cooper fan club!

I think I have found what cross he is. breeders are now crossing a Bullmastiff and Dogue de Bordeaux and calling them The Bully Bordeaux, here is a pic of one I think is Cooper with ears!!

And here is an up to date pic of our boy on his way back from the park.

xxlynne

YES!  The breed mix makes sense as he was named  Bully

Cooper is stunningly beautiful..he never ceases to amaze me with his looks. He also has a 'human' feel
josta

Thats what came to my mind too with the name, remembering the Bully label.

Poor Cooper just has that face I want to kiss luckily he is very easy going and just accepts thats what he has to tolorate to live here!
xristine

He's a stunning dog - no doubt about it. And he looks very gentle and kind!!
josta

Yes considering he is still young he is very gentle, he was cuddled up with one of my cats this morning and she is a very highly strung cat who will who will not tolerate fools kindly. But she loves Cooper and would rather go to him for attention than us!!
