CHARLEY our Turkish friend special dog special life 9 yrsCharley is a gorgeous little girl who is a member of our lovely Tex's pack!!
Sharon & John bought Charley over from Turkey when she was 4.5 months old. She was in a very poor old way when they first saw her (other tourists walked by with occassional comments of " urg look at that puppy") not our guys despite early indications that she would not pull through Sharon and John's love and committment ensured that from such a sad and sorry start all she has known since has been love, safety and security.
Here is a picture of the lovely girl :
Sadly after 9 and a half years with her Charley is very poorly.
Here are Sharon's emails that explain what is going on with Charley ....
| Quote: | Just to let you know that Charley is still seriously ill, but stable. They scanned her yesterday and the IMHA has caused some clotting in her liver and spleen - they are not happy about it, but prefer that to it being in any of her other organs. She was also vomiting regularly and has now stopped, but she is not eating much. The anaemia had been stabilised and since the blood transfusion her red cell count is 18 (she went in with a count of 10 and after transfusion it went up to 25) - they think the red cells are now not being destroyed faster than she is able to make some, which is good news. She also has vasculitis in her legs and the biggest risk to her is thrombosis. The vet has said that 50-60% of dogs with this IMHA immune condition do not live more than 2 months. They have said that it is still early days and they have also seen dogs that improve and get better with drugs. They have found no cancers, tumours or diseases and it is looking very likely that it has been brought on by her annual vaccination which she had on the 27th April. They have also said it is not yet the time to consider letting her go.
|
Then updated today .....
| Quote: | The latest is that Charley is not eating, and her Red Blood Count (RBC) dropped to 14 yesterday (down from 25 after the last transfusion). They gave her another transfusion last night as they had no choice in case it gives her a chance, but they have said that the more transfusions she has the less chance of a positive prognosis so we will be looking at lower than 40-50% survival rate. But they have to try, its still not time to let her go.

Chaley is now with her angel companions...she had such a special life being found in a terrible state as a pup on the streets in Turkey and no Sharon and John couldn't walk by..they moved heaven and earth to save her life; save her leg and to bring her through quarantine..to remain ever close.
