Bon Voyage

Hello All,

I know this is an introduce yourself thread, but as I didn’t do that 6 months ago when I started walking RR dogs, I thought I’d do it now, when I’m leaving for pastures new.

I started back in April/May thinking that I’d keep myself fit and give a few dogs the chance to stretch their legs at the same time. Having been used to a Spaniel/Collie cross I was a bit taken aback at first to see all these Staffies staring at me through the kennel doors. I’d never had any contact with them before apart from the one’s accompanying yobs in the street, and the coverage of them in the papers left me a bit on the back foot.

However, by the end of the first day I had met several brilliant dogs, I’d been jumped over, climbed over, had my face and neck licked to death and was covered from head to foot in dog paw prints, I was smitten with Staffies from that point on.

In the following months I walked a few hundred miles with loads of different dogs, I kept fit and enjoyed seeing the reaction of the dogs, I had good times, great times and a few bad moments, especially when Frank collapsed from heat exhaustion.

I’ve loved interacting with the dogs, if you show them some affection they respond in spades. The staff at the kennels do a magnificent job and don’t mind the invasion of volunteers.

I’ll miss the dogs that RR haven’t managed to re-home yet especially the long stayers like Frank, Shiva, Buster (Zebedee) and Tiger Lily, but I’ll really miss Blake, I feel that with a couple of months training he’ll be a superb companion for someone.

I’m off to the Dordogne, I’m hoping to link up with Phoenix Animal Rescue when I get out there and continue to do the same as I have been over here.

I wish all of you the very best for the future, may RR continue to be there for those who need it, and may there be an abundance of volunteers to walk the needy, I’ll continue to watch the forum from afar with interest.

Bon Voyage

I agree with Karen - your posts have been wonderful; warm, funny and you create a real sense of the dogs' characters and show such empathy with them. They'll miss you - as will the forum!

Bonne chance pour le futur !  Wink
