Becky Staffie Jan 08 Gatwick (S) W Sussex Kennelled

Her Story: Becky was found stray in West London about 4 miles from her home.  She was micro-chipped so her owners were contacted and arrived at the vets to basically turn around and say they didn't want her anymore. She was great with the grandchildren and a warm and affectionate dog, but they didn't have time for her. She has had at least 3 other homes.

Salient points: Slender happy Staffie newly spayed. People and child friendly. Needs gentle socialisation with dogs. Clean and non destructive.

Advert: Becky found her way as a  stray into a vets. Her family didn't want her back so she was spayed and bought into our care.  She is young and so lovely.  She isn't too bouncy, she isn't destructive; she is housetrained and affectionate. She can be left, but happier to be integral to a family and it's activities.  Becky will need a secure garden and pleasant walks nearby. She isn't reactive to dogs but needs time to settle with them as her walks were few and far between.

Becky is lovely; is very appealing and very pleased to have affection and to return it in abundance. Becky is a light frame Staffie which helps the public to accept her as the press have wrongly educated them towards 'Staffie phobia'. Becky will win over doggie friends and enjoy her family given the opportunity of a fresh start and a new beginning.
Please visit Becky's individual thread, in Dogs needing homes in our care on our forum to find out more about her and follow her progress.

If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

"Please note that this dog is currently in kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found".

Becky's thread below giving her background and progress through our Rescue:

Becky was found stray on Saturday and bought into a vet practise. They found she had a microchip and contacted the owners who turned up an hour later. Then they turned around and said they didn't want her anymore. She was found about 15 mins drive from their house and they just didn't seem perturbed. She is always getting out.  But then promptly said she has never been socialised with dogs.

After trying all the rescues we responded and have come forwards for her. The vet is spaying her for us tomorrow. We are arranging to collect Friday. Met Becky this afternoon.

Many of the vet staff own staffies and they apparently were in tears reading Trudy James's "Just a Staffie x" poem on Staffie Rescue this morning.

Becky has moved in with Laura and Antony as companion to Fiddler. We are trialling the adoption as although Backy relates well to dogs we have to know she can live alongside an older dog.

Fingers crossed for them all. Fiddler looks a handsome dog  Very Happy

Laughing Fingers crossed it all works out - Fiddler is lovely, just hope Becky appreciates him Wink

Sadly for all Becky comes back tomorrow. She has done really well in so many areas but needs a more secure garden and perhaps to be an only pet. She is a sweetheart.

Becky is back with us. In gratitude to Laura and Ant she has been given a wonderful time. They really tried to make this Becky's home. Sadly she got out of the garden when unsupervised and had a go at a passing dog. A high percentage of terriers will if unsupervised will rush  in on introductions. However there is the recognition Becky needs a more secure garden and slightly less challenging set of circumstances. She has proved herself in so many ways and we are confident she will make a wonderful family pet to a family who can continue to work on her socialisation which she is improving on so much considering her lack of socialisation in the past. Becky you'll get there.. thanks to the help you have received by those who love you.

Sad So sorry it didn''t work out, despite everybody's best efforts.  Sad

Laura and Ant offered Becky such amazing care and time. Very loved little girl who has really benefited from her time there.

Beautiful girl who has much to offer and looks to go with it!!   Laughing

Having to return Becky has been heartbreaking for both Ant and I but unfortunately we were not able to offer her the type of home she needed. It took her about two weeks to settle into our routine but once she did it helped her to relax knowing what was expected of her.
Becky is a superb dog in many ways and it is obvious that somewhere in her past someone has taken the time to teach her a lot. She is a real foody and will do pretty much anything for a treat, she knows sit, paw other paw, down, wait, stay, heel, leave and we had started to teach her to play dead. She also went off lead regularly and her recall was fairly good but again with treats she would come back easily.
She was left for periods during the day whilst we were at work and she seemed to be fine with this and she didn't seem at all destructive. She did however think my pink fluffy slippers must have been a toy but gave them up easily! She is a very quiet dog and we only heard her bark a couple of times, on both occasions it was because she was unsure of something. The big monsters out in the field in the dark was her best attempt, once she realised it was our horses she calmed right down and was happy to carry on trotting about!!! She didn't even bark when the door bell was rung and looked very confused when Fiddler barked!
Becky came with me to the horses most days and was quite happy to occupy herself. I'm not quite sure what she thought of them but she did seem to want them to play with her. She ended up having a couple of nips from my boy as she keep running under his head when he was tyed up. She also came out with us when we hacked a couple of times and wasn't at all phased by having a half ton beast beside her. I also lunged my boy and she quite happily came and sat beside me and never even attempted chasing him which I was impressed at. Fiddler likes to run round with him on the lunge as did my previous staffie!!
She has been well house trained, in just over four weeks of having her she only had a couple of accidents inside, and both times this was our own fault. She is very discreet in her way of requesting to be let out, and tends to start pacing a bit won't settle, however we did learn quite quickly on this one!!!!
Becky was brilliant with her food, bones and toys and if you wanted it you could easily take it from her with no questions asked. Her toys, if anything took a little more persuassion than a bone, as she would then decide that rather than give it up she would like to then play tug of war, again once she realised what you wanted she would leave the toy and be very pleased that you wanted to throw it for her. She would also happily sit and wait for her food until she was told she could tuck in.
Becky seems to adore the car to, she will get in with anyone!!! My dogs have always travelled in the boot but this little lady didn't think that was good enough for her!! To start with she would like to jump from the front to the back and back again, however she soon learnt that sitting on the back seat was much better as we didn't fall over or off the seat when going round corners!! When ever we got out of the car she would watch us like a hawk to see where we were off to and was so pleased to see us again even when we had only got out to open the gate to the field!!
Whilst with us she met many of our friends and family and on every occasion she was perfect with them, she is a typical staffie and really loved the attention and was happy to lick and lick and lick and lick them to show you how wonderful she thought everyone was!!!!!
All in all this little lady is lovely and is extremely intelligent with bundles energy and a character to match. We both hope she finds a great home because she really does deserve it, with a little time and patience she will blossom.
We love you lots Becky and we will never forget you.

P.S We will attempt to post the few pictures we have of her as soon as we can[/img]

Took little Becky out for a walk today. Very sweet girl. Into everything but not hyper. A little worried by some scary things but settled as soon as she realised it was ok.  She demonstrated her sit and paw to me when we sat in the park for lunch. Laughing

Walked Becky today. Nice little staffie. Not particularly reactive to other dogs in the kennels. good on the lead.good round the sheep. Very quick to learn the "steady" command as she got to the end of the extender length.I liked her a lot

Becky was a pleasure to walk today Very Happy A little worried by those sheep but settled when she realised they were ignoring her. Her nose is healing nicely now.

Becky pretty little Becky.  Becky was viewed today and had 2 lovely trips out of her kennels..Becky Becky that was close. An adorable girl you are!

Becky isn't doing well in kennels she still is thin and is scurffy. More to the point her energy is a little flat..slightly depressed or just sad. I had to instruct the 'interested party' not to feel sorry for her and choose her on that basis..it is difficult because after our rescuers want to 'save'. "She will soon be in her home" All we can say Becky you are a catch and your time will come very soon.
Heather

Tom and I met Becky today - what a sweet little lady. She wanted to be walking at the front by was happy to share this position, was very interested in the sheep but left them alone... in fact, was interested in everything, not least trying to pull us over in the mud after that pouring rain. She's strong for someone so small!

I really hope Becky is adopted soon, she'll make someone a wonderful friend.

I was a little sad reading that Becky is a bit down  Sad  she really is such a lively and loving character in a home environment. Every time she'd been walked with us she have a mad half hour leaping into her bed playing with toys and chasing backwards and forwards round the house, then she'd simply come and collapse next to you and sleep! That was until her favourite programme came on, The Dog Whisperer then she would sit with you and watch telly!!! Such a character really hope she finds her forever home soon.  love5

A few snaps of Becky during her time with us, just need to try and get the ones off the phone now!!

It's certainly starting to look that way, the only place I said I didn't want the dogs on the homing questionnaire was in the bedroom!!!! Shows how much of a push over I am!!!  Embarassed

Took Becky out today - throughly pleasant walk. She's still not sure about the sheep though!
Heather

Lovely little Becky came out for a walk today with Dominic (and me and Tom). She looked a little nervous in her kennel but obviously wanting to come out and very pleasant when I got in there, easy to get the leads on.

She was a little happier to see Dominic than he was her but they settled down, and she preferred being out in front rather than following him. Constantly trying to push past Tom to get into that lead position...

We thought that instead of her 4 white feet, Becky would be going back to the kennel with 4 brown ones, it was SO muddy. However, she proved extremely adept at walking round puddles and avoiding the very slushy bits so there was more white still visible than expected!

She wasn't even tired when we ran half the long stretch of field back to the kennels and was happy to be rushing along. Really really didn't want to go back in her kennel and had to be bribed with a chew. Oh so sweet!  Very Happy

Becky isn't doing well in kennels. The tip of her tail is red and sore and she has a scab 1" down from the tip. Her fur is dull and she is thin. She had a lovely time in the paddock though focused on waiting by the gate if allowed..flowed into her walk well. She kept repeatedly shaking herself..so I have mentioned this to Sue and Sue will watch out. I have removed a harness she had on, just in case this was uncomfortable. Oh this girl needs her forever home  Confused  like N O W
