Bailey 1 yr Tri colour Collie

Bailey loved so deeply in those he placed his trust. Bailey was a friendly dog who loved dogs company and would play and get other dogs to chill and chase. He could leap for Britain and agility would have come naturally to him as a keen focus of his mind. But poor Bailey had some inner terrors and obsessions which manifest in many different situations and with fear of new people. These terrors became  hallucigenic and for 2 nights he was so tormented by them there was nothing that could distract or sedate him out of his twirling and leaping and barking. We turned all electricity off; we played music; we gave him love.  We took him to another place but tormented he was.  It was so clear that Bailey needed Peace and Peace he was given this morning in his exhausted state.

His thread is below..
Bailey, tri-colour collie male, timid. Just 12 months & has had 5 homes already. Came from a pub. Great with dogs / adults, doesn't seem to like kids. Surrender to pound.

what a handsome lad Bailey is. walked him this afternoon and he's lovely.
If you're changing names Lynne, can I put a bid in for  'Brith' - welsh for patchwork - his tri markings are beautiful  Wink

Let's just go for good old fashioned Patch then!

I think Bailey is the only consistency he has had in he short year of life..so Bailey I think.

Lovely to think of him out enjoying a 2 1/2 hour walk this pm.  Thank you

Lovely thought that shortly his pillar to post existance will be over and he will have a forever home.    Smile

Bailey has reacted badly in kennels and his paws have become very sore from jumping jumping. Reclaimingrebus has taken him in today and I'll take him tomorrow.

Elaine (Reclaimingrebus) is putting a lot of care into Bailey and will continue to foster day by day to offer us space.

Bailey is enjoying his holiday out of the kennels, and was very good overnight in his crate. He's only in there because Maisie isn't QUITE sure about the young teenager who's suddenly arrived, he's very good with all of them, and I fed them all together ( but with a distance apart) this morning and he was good as gold.
currently he's in the garden , and leaving wetfootprints all over the kitchen floor. Why?
.
His new game is to splash the water about and try and catch the drops.
He also tried to do it in the waterbowl  and splashed water from one end of the kitchen to the other. still, the floor needed a wash!
Although he is timid, he's getting braver all the time, and just needs a bit of encouragement. Its astonishing how brave they can get for a piece of cheese !

Ah bless - am gonna try get mine a swimming pool, looks like fun!

I was worried Bailey was out of his depth..he appears to be having a splashing time.

If he had to go back to kennels, which he wont, I think we would be clubbing together and providing Alyson, at the kennels, with an accessory for Bailey's kennel!

Reclaimingrebus kindly bought Mr Bailey over to us this pm. Lorenzo and I walked him with her. Can't tell you how much love and care she has put into this lad since Monday. I'll leave her to detail her assessment.

Bailey was then introduced to the garden..then Toby and Zena back from their walk..then the rest!  But it wasn't a rest..2 hours later he is exhausted but very happily in with the pack. He has played and played and mixes well with the dogs that just don't do play. Took treats very well in the crowd.

He will sleep the sleep tonight Smile

I have emailed Jane a piece for agilitynet so hopefully he will appear on there soon.
He is a boy of huge potential, and if my circumstances were different, i would have loved to have him stay.
He needs a bit of work, but underneath the occasional glitches, there's a real little star waiting to shine.
I don't 'do' sentimental, but I admit that I cried after I dropped him off. He just so deserves someone to commit to and work with him.
Fingers crossed for you, Bailey

Bailey  dear Bailey... is quite a complex dog and is an emerging picture; his need for 'occupation' is evident. . Bailey is  intense and his focused intelligence is very evident. He is only just beginning to relax here and yet I thought he was relaxed..I now see he was in fact quite tense. He has gone through a phase of establishing himself in the pack..and decided cool lets play now and enjoy this for what it is. In a situation where he doesn't have enough to occupy his mind he will easily get focused on neighbourhood noises or seeing what's going on nextdoor. He can also get into obsessive play with water either puddles which have collected water and he digs to make mud pies..or his water bowl then plays with the reflections from the spillage. Bailey will present toys and balls  at your feet in a clear gesture of lets play .He can get literally wound up by certain noises and spin around and bark. In the pack he is learning to take a few scuffles and avoid retalliating or getting involved. Glenn got nervous and grabbed him by the ear but held no grudge when they were reintroduced 30 mins later. He may need slower introductions with bigger dogs as twice has got immediately on their back and snarled  when coming out of a door as they are walking in..but once he recognised that was fine.

We made the decision to have him in our bedroom overnight to give him more confidence and he has been very different since. Loves lying on the bed in a close pack..and seeks out closeness. We have seen this as a very beneficial factor to Bailey..repairing his remoteness and apprehension and he seems to be gaining more substance and confidence by the day.

Bailey is loving and close and responds dramatically to being told what a good boy he is..it really hits the mark.."me a good boy..that feels good to hear" Keenly attentive to feedback..listening to tone and observing facial gesture. He happily spent the morining in my study quietly lying in the sun... "oh how are you? "when I walked in..I will lift my head but choose to remain chilled.

Foster seems to be offering Bailey new skills and certainly 'occupation' He needs to be with another playful dog to absorb some of his  energy constructively. I would put him in that 10% of Collies who need the agenda focused on their needs..with an active; social and task regime. Routine would also be beneficial. Above all he needs someone to stick with him...he deserves a dedicated owner..he will shape into a fanastic dog given the chance to find himself.

Bailey is now on the agilitynet site. Hopefully this will generate some interest in him. If anyone has any questions that I might be able to answer from an agility angle, I'm only too happy for my details to be given to them  Wink

Bailey is definitely making progress.  His confidence is coming and with it a very loving tender obedient loyal dog emerges.'Cause he is told how wonderful he is all day long which is true but he just gets more wonderfuller!

Today with the rain he has had splashing games.  Much more loving with the other dogs and so up for play. So please he is settling and convinced sleeping on the bed and having that special place has really helped him gain self esteem. He needs to build further so that he learns to be more settled with meeting strangers but am sure as he develops this will come naturally. Can now image the adult dog..oh and how lovely.

He must live with at least one other dog..any breed..he loves dogs. He also needs a family who can offer him time and training to capture his mind and attention and focus it on meaningful tasks and constructive games. Small children will be over powering for him ideally teenage family or couple who understand the collie psyche and needs. He is gorgeous!

Bailey so much needs his collie experienced home. He seems to be gaining self confidence and is becoming a very close and loyal dog. Bailey enjoys car journeys and can be left but may make an intial protest.  He is fine with dogs and actually is very kind to them and loves to play with them if they will.

Bailey is reactive to noises like sneezing or fireworks.  He tends to leap up watching the ceiling in a almost repetitive fashion which can be very warying. He can't cope with kennels for this reason so that need to be absent from his families agenda for holiday cover. If he hears voices in a nextdoor garden he will leap up at the fence just to have a glimpse but also just in frustration with no intention to leap over. He can also push his whole body into another dog when left behind a close door almost as a protest.  Bailey does no harm be creates a kerfuffle! These are 'Bailey ways' It goes with his collie mind which is very intense. Bailey also can leap at new people catching their clothing again just nerves. He doesn't do harm but needs management with new people..just to ignore and to then provide treats in a matter of fact way or walk with him until he has had a sense of trust.

Bailey is everso loving and intimate - only really now coming out.  He will push his muzzle on to your face and yes occassionally I get gentle gentle licks. Bailey eats his food in the same way..gentlely gentley.

Bailey needs consistency and committment with owners that don't have a busy house and will take the time to build his trust up with friends and visitors. People outside need to be encouraged just to ignore and not to make direct contact as he can get snooked and may on rare occassions growl with the stance to leap up.  He means no harm..he just has had so many homes and lost his trust along the way as a young impressionable lad.

Bailey is a darling but can be very frustrating so his owners need patience and confidence that they can take on this adoreable rescue lad and bring him through to leave some of his ghosts behind. He so nearly lost his life but he is so worth the effort. Sweet sweet soul who is sensitive and really means no harm nor causes any..just fear and a little time to trust.

He had such potential, but so many demons. Bailey, I so wanted it to work out for you, and I know Lynne tried so hard. We can only offer what we can, and for you it wasn't enough. But we tried, sweetheart, we tried. Run free , Bailey. At the end there were people who cried for you.
Dee
