Ashley is a really lovely gentle crossbreed. He presents as a lurchery cross. Medium sized dog 18"-20" to the shoulder (withers). Has the young puppy instincts and will be an easy mixer. Sadly his coat is very dull and full of scurf..a young dog that hasn't been cared for. He travelled in the front seat with me and soon settled. Self contained, not initially responding to affection or even 'good boys'.  By the end of our 3 hour journey he has wagging his tail on 'good boys' and I did get a few licks. Embarassed

Ashley will make a wonderful family pet given basic training and heaps of love. A wonderful wonderful dog in the making. Gentle kind dog.

Ashley as snipped and chipped on Thursday 1st Oct. He travelled in the crate so Bruce could occupy the front seat. He joined in with Bruce's songs initially but then settled.  Ashley is such a lovely natured dog. He wanted to meet every one and every dog to say hi in quite a calm way.  What was noticable this time was his tail it was more Labrador,   'rudderish' and thickish which confirms this boy as a 'crossbreed' so everyone can join the guessing game! His coat is heavish also rather like a Lab.

Still lots of energy even after his GA with the snip. Keen and friendly energy.

This boy is gorgeous Very Happy  Just a puppy really. He reminds me of a calmer, darker Taz. Had a lovely walk with him. After the initial excitement - boing, boing, on the way out he was quite calm but really relaxed on the way back and so was into everything. Couldn't make out the sheep at all. Was fine near the road. Seems like he would make a lovely family dog.

Ashley took me for a gentle walk through the woods and out on to the fields on the 15th Oct. Despite the gleeful meeting he was so easy to walk outside. Kept close by when I slowed down and 'waited' for me regularly. Special dog..with a Labrador tail and lurcher paws BUT only 18" to the shoulder so a lovely small medium dog with such a good disposition!

Walked Ashley today.. Handsome lad who was very easy. Already starting to respond to his name and recall on the extender. Good around traffic and was interested in the sheep (who were only 2 ft away from him on the other side of the fence, but was happy to leave when asked.) Definitely non reactive to the other dogs in the kennel. You can see the lurcher in him in the length of his legs! All very positive. Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Ashley/Dominque

Hi Everyone

Yesterday, we visited Gatwick Kennels and met Lynne, who is a lovely, utterly dedicated to her dogs lady, we wanted a friend for our staffie cross girl, whos about 18mths old.  We first met Dominque, he was a loving looking staff, so friendly and gentle, we all went on a walk through the woods to get the dogs aquainted and they got on great, Dominque was so well behaved, no problem at all, we then let them loose in the paddock together and they played together having a good old sniff, they really got on well, no problems at all- lovely dog.  We then met Ashley he was just a bit more social then Dominque, we again walked and let them off together in the paddock, they both went crazy, chasing each other round and round, like a couple of puppies (which they are really) they just seemed to jell, so we had to make the difficult decision of which one to choose, thank goodness we didnt see more, as it is always so difficult, I think dominque has come on leaps and bounds, in comparing to what Lynn said he was first like and he will make a lovely companion for some one but it was Ashley we choose due to his bonding with Cassie and her with him, although he is twice her size.

Sunday and Sunday night - its been great fun, despite having another lovely long walk over the common together, Ashley, is still full of beans, wandering around, every time John moves, he moves, I think he is going to be a man dog, like our Collie cross- Gizmo, who followed John every where, maybe he's got a bit of collie in him?? Ashley and Cassie have been continuously playing rough and tumble and him being the boy dog, is continously trying to hump her all the time, well they are just going to have to sort it out themselves, I'm sure Cassie will tell him when she's had enough but he is a such a lovely friendly boy.  Bedtime,  We have spoilt Cassie, even though we've only had her two months, hence why we thought it best to get another dog asap and she normally sleeps in our bedroom, as her nose has already been put out a bit by bringing this bouncy stranger into her home already, we didnt think it was fair to put her downstairs also for tonight, so we took both beds up, Ashley's with a quilt in it, do you think they would stay in their beds- no way, as Cassie is so small, she does quite often sleep on our bed, so we eventually all settled with Cassie in between John and I with her head on the pillow and of course Ashley didnt see why he had to loose out, so he got on the bottom of the bed in between Johns legs, well you can imagine how much sleep we got, every time Cassie moved, Ashley thought it was time to play and got on top of her again and despite trying to be authoritive and telling him to get in his bed it wasnt very successful, I am sure it is just him settling but we will have to think again to whos sleeping where tonight - any advice would be gratefully received and I know its our fault for letting them sleep in the bedroom but when you know, they've not had a very good start in life you cant help it.  Monday am - he's a houler, 7.30am, I hear this houling and think it is my husband messing about, as he used to do it with our other dog, Gizmo (collie cross) who loved to sing and houl - only to get things- balls/goodies etc, not when he was left, so went downstairs, no, it was Ashley, john had gone to work and shut the door from downstairs to upstairs and obviously he didnt like it- so he houled - didnt bark, havent heard him bark yet, so I better pop around to just pre warn the neighbours while he is settling , they will be fine about it, thats our fun events so far, its like having two babies again but I am sure we will look back in a few weeks and think what was that all about.

PS: We think it is brilliant the job that you all do at rescue remedie, the help and the support phone calls from Dee is great too, we would eventually like to get more involved, if we can help, once Ashley has settled in.   Muriel x

just to keep you posted, Ashley is a lovely boy, I thought he didnt know his name at first but I think it is a bit of selective hearing, had a bought of sickness/ diaorrhea first 2- 3 days, took him to the vets to have him checked over, just thought it was excitement, change of food etc, given him something to settle his tummy.  He and Cassie have been running around chasing each other, they would do it all day, if we let them, but we have to have some peace, we have had the odd sqeak when one of them has gone a bit far on play fighting but they are sharing toys and beds, although, they have identical things, they always want what the other has got and they let each other take it nicely.  We have had them both collapsed together laying on the sofa and in one bed together, so it must be good but it is quite hard keeping an eye on them, like having kids back again, never mind it will all be worth it in the end and we will forget all about these first few hectics weeks. I will take some photos when they have settled even more.

Hi Lyn & Dee & All

Thought I would let you know how we are all getting along, well it is certainly fun having Ashley living with us, he is such a lovely boy but a rather naughty boy but I know he is only a pup, so he will stop eventually but you do have to laugh - him and Cass,  would play fight all day long if they got the chance and they both always want what the other has, even Bonios and food, they will swap or take it out of each others mouth, without any agression - crazy. I took your advise Dee and confined them to the Kitchen when they were last left alone for a short while and the first time seemed good, Thurs was good also but my sister in law popped in for an hour to check on them, Fri, John went to work, they had been for their walk etc, left them in the Kitchen well I had an extra hour in bed, got up and thought my god, what's gone on here, sticky slime over the floor, cardboard bits and then small bits of egg shells, he had only got a box of six eggs off the side and eaten most of what he could, my fault for leaving them so near on the side, cleared that up, popped out for a couple of hours to see my mum, came back to two piles of sick(yellow yolky) and one runny pooh and either I left the office door open (I cant be sure) or he pushed the door handle down and tore a cardboard box to bits, leaving all the metals bits on the floor, I suppose the sick was to be expected after what he had eaten, so that was our fun, last time he was left, I am sure Cassie joins in but she looks at me as if to say I didnt do it mum. But on the other hand he is so, so loving.  We have found why he seems to have selective hearing and didnt know his name, he has a hearing problem or partially deaf, we were having to say commands 2 - 3 times as he didnt respond straight away, we now know why, we have tested him, he never hears the gate, back door or Johns jingle jangle of keys (as Cassie does) and when the three of us are in the room and make a noise or call him, it has to be at a certain volume before he hears it and then he doesnt know which one has said or made the noise, so he is looking in all directions, again on commands, you now have to raise your voice to get him to hear, we also found he never barked until the other night - fireworks, when he was in the garden and then this weird squeaky, husky bark, like he had a sore throat and wondered if this was associated with the partial deafness - so we are going to take him to our vets, to see if she can find the problem and test him? Its really weird because our last dog Gizmo who was nearly totally white, he was partially deaf but we coped with him - so perhaps Ashley was meant for us, maybe this is why he seems to be particularly naughty??  Any way despite all his problems, which he cannot help, we love him to bits and once we speak to the vets we might have to change some of his training or if you have any advice please let me know.  Dee/ Lyn we used to do a mthly donation by D/D of £15.00 to Battersea but as you know I am not happy with them so we would like to move this donation to Rescue remedies instead, as we feel you all work so hard and your cause, is a much more well earned, caring, dedicated cause, so if you could let me know your account S/C and A/C no, so I can set it up, I know it is not a lot but it will do for starters I hope.

Speak to you soon
