AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!I keep an eye on the local papers pet section as background for work.
I've been really pleased to see that the number of staffie litters has fallen considerably - so perhaps its dawning on people that it isn't a cheap way to make a fast buck.
today however there are 4 adverts which make me despair
one for a collie bitch who hasnt been speyed, so in the words of the owner, will be useful for breeding as shes such a good looking dog
one for a 5 yr old collie, speyed who doesnt like dogs and is FTGH
one for a 20 month collie FTGH who the disabled owner can't cope with (bought by the daughter), and who is still only paper-trained
one for a litter of staffies, the blue pups are priced £1000

Makes your heart bleed doesn't it. Many people I have spoken to just don't realise that advertising a dog as "FTGH" (Free to a Good Home) is not a good thing! Particularly when the dog is not spayed/neutered and unscrupulous people are on the lookout for breeding bitches/stud dogs which they use and abuse until they can't breed anymore and then discard them like last weeks used papers - they are only out for the money!
Even if, for whatever reason, a person can't keep a dog, the kindest thing they can do for them before they rehome is to spay/neuter (and that's aside from the medical advantages of doing so).
... am now replicating your arrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!
