A few facts of the SAVIOURS...which are hard to swallowThese are 'understandings' I have come to know about which according to the source are probably true but practise may have been revised since.
A large CHARITABLE org. put up dogs for sponsor. They are reported to be un homeable and thousands of people can be supporting the same dog. We met one of these retired sponsored dogs in its home! We would definitely have homed her ernestly, she did not need to spend her life in kennels but then she was very valuable for the organisation her needs became secondary.
A very large pound in a leading city holds on to dogs in very poor conditions after all the council pays per dog per day and then will decide to have a cull and brings the vets in.
A pound manager stated recently because of the deal he gets with a local vet it is cheaper to put the dogs to sleep than to vax them so he makes his decision on sound economic reasoning. So how much is a dog's life worth not the extra £5 obviously
A very high number of pounds dont want the do gooders creating trouble on their doors..if they have staffie theres no good homes out there for staffies everyone knows that so they are on the list as of the 8th day.
A lot of rescues who aren't stringent on 'no kill' see "returns" as failures and so...do the deed
Most breed rescues are run by breeders..I have heard them refuse to take a dog back once they heard it was neutered. Suggest an owner "put it to sleep we don't want the breed getting a bad name". One had a certain 'chemical' that she placed over the dog's noses to put them to sleep- it saves vets bills. Rescue enquiries usually turn into puppy sales.
One large Rescue Website has a private homings section. It is policed to avoid people selling dogs but the dogs can pass through without neutering; without being properly assessed and without any support for the receiving family should the homing break down.
Often pregnant bitches going into pounds go full term (Funny that they are allowed over 8 days!) puppies sold and mother put to sleep she has served her purpose
One xxxxx centre was visited where there were so many 'black bags' they are piled up on top of the freezer giving off a stench.
One pound has it official the council is concerned about giving their dogs to rescue..at least for a sale they get £60 ...that is unvax; unneutered or unchipped ofcourse..nice price.
If a pound gets kennel cough, rescues hold back from taking as there is a lot of phobia about the 'common cold' in dogs. So they dogs lose their lives for the sake of a cold.
If a dog comes into a pound in season they very often lose their lives as rescues face facts that that dog will create havoc in their kennels with the male dogs and may be pregnant and have to be held full term or they will need to hold them for at leasdt 6 weeks before spaying..6 weeks is a long time..a lot are passed over and again lose their lives because their owners didn't care but then neither did the rescuers.
One pound refused to feed their strays when they were going to die anyway. Staff were muggling in food

Very very difficult to understand how they can set up as 'saviours' and behave in such a dishonourable unfeeling way. Better not to have pretended in the first place. Very easy to get depressed, however see it so often with humans too, old, ill, infirm, and again from so called caring professions. Saw it too when working with horses. Thank goodness for people at RR and other places who TRY and often suceed. Keep going, and making such a difference! It really is worth it, so many happy dogs and people from the homing lists
