26 July 2009-Parklife Festival/Dog Show, Mile EndWe have booked a stall at Mile End Park's parklife festival. It will include a dog show and the little info i have on it says that they attract over 2000 local vistors and is growing each year.
It is from 12-5 and is right near Mile End tube station (i will get better directions off of the lady)
Best of all the stall is FREE as we are a non profit making organisation!!!
I will attend this one with My trusty sidekick Lucie and hopefully the lovely Sharon But all are welcome!!!

I have had confirmation that we have a stall. We can set up from 10:30 and it is open from 12-5. Mile end park is quite long but i is at the bit by the Grove Road/Roman Road junction, about a 5 minute walk from Mile End Station. There will be a dog show and it looks like an art exhibition/stalls (there is a nature centre there too) and there is a pub and chip shop next door
i have asked her is she has a poster or any other info, if i get anything, i will let you all know.
We can't do any of our tombolas at this one cos the dog show has a tombola (obviously not as good as our one!!) so we will have to do something different. We are thinking of (among other ideas) a "everything £1" stall so that Sharon can get her East-London-fruit-and-veg-stall voice on

I like that idea. Perhaps you could do a lucky dip too? That went down well at the BOSC event.
Thinking about that, it might be worth checking about the tombola - the BOSC did their own too but were happy for us to do one as well. Just a thought

No, she has said in her email that she would rather that we didn't do a tombola so i think we had better do something else. especially as we are getting the stall for free!!

I was just trying to say that you put your passion for the dogs into drumming up business for the stall and make it impossible for people to ignore us (that and you are aspiring for a part in Eastenders!!! )

Tina, another idea to replace the tombola - at yesterday's event there was a 'roll a double and win a teddy' stall. It did quite well. They had a load of teddies and 2 giant dice. It was a Pound for 3 goes and any double won a teddy.
You could adapt it and use what would have been tombola prizes instead of teddies and split the prizes for double 1 - 3 and then double 4 - 6 (so all the best ones don't go too early!!) I don't think it needs to be giant dice - any would do.
And it fits with 'the everything a quid' theme

Absolutely brilliant idea Karen - thank you very much
Have located some dice online that are 3cm in size so good for little hands. Will check the shops today and if I don't find any locally will buy online tonight and hope they arrive by Sunday.

Karen, you are a genius!!!!!!! Thanks! xx

Dice have been ordered - fingers crossed they arrive swiftly. Wood & buckets have been deposited with father for "Ball in the Bucket". I also have tennis balls with doggie paw prints on!

Fast work
I just hope the parental muzzels are not bing employed

Muzzle not applied to father as didn't want to upset him when he had a jigsaw/power tool in his hand

Of course - you always were the sensible one

Okay folks, we are almost set for Sunday at Park Life. We have a "Ball in a Bucket stall, "Double Dice" prize winner, "Open 3 Windows" to win a prize, a "Everything £1" table plus our usual homemade dog biscuits & liver cake!
My mum is holding out on me - I don't know whether she is able to attend, with or without muzzle! I have tried begging, but am still working on my technique!
This week it's TinaD, Lilian (her mum - for the majority of the day) and myself. If anyone has a few hours to spare we would welcome the help. We are going all out this weekend as it's the last one until September - we want to round the 6 weeks off with a bang!
With multiple things running we could do with a hand, particularly if things are slow and I need to don my box lid and flog biscuits around the park ... Sunday afternoon cinema style!
Love to see anyone that can make it ... !

After a bit of a shakey start and the gazebo nearly taking off (it was VERY windy this morning), we actually had a good day! We didn't get any rosettes at the dog show beacause we thought we would give the other dogs a chance-it's not fair, the RR dogs winning them all the time, now is it??
We met lots of lovely people, gave out some leaflets etc. We met the Tower Hamlets Dog Warden (lovely lady!) who has promised to tell us of any events that she is organising/going to.
Julie and co could only stay for a very short while but it was lovely to see them all again (Rebecca proved that she was a whizz on both the ball in a bucket AND throwing the dice!!)
The rain held off and when the wind dropped, it was actually a nice day. I have the sunburn to prove it!!! If anyone sees me at any future event PLEASE make me put suncream on so that i don't end up looking like a belicia becon!!!!!!!
Sharon will be on in a bit with the magic numbers!!!!!!

Hi everyone
6 weeks on the trot phew! We have been so lucky weather wise, it's been touch and go a few times and today was one of them. We have had sun and rain!
Highlights of the day were two people taking Celia Hammond leaflets to get their dogs spayed/neutered. One of which has a dog who has had a 10 pup litter and she is determined that it will not happen again. (All were homed to good homes and all are in touch). Hopefully they will follow through, but they were serious about it.
Another couple lost their dog about 6 months ago, but now travel for 4 months of the year so feel it's perhaps not for them to get another. She said her house is an empty shell without the pitter patter of little furry feet. They always had Bull Terriers. Her eyes lit up at the thought of fostering - they thought they were too old!!! Flyer was superglued to her hand
Stevie put in an appearance with the Bandana Family. They restocked our soft toy department and the fluffies looked even better in the fur with their ponchos. We also have, thanks to them, a music playing dog mascot to attract attention! Tina wants to call him Dave, but any further suggestions welcome! Thanks very much to all the famiily for your support - it means a lot to us.
Another nicely organised event with nice people and a warm welcome. Ball in a Bucket, Open Windows & Lucky Dice proved a pretty popular with the kids as replacement when needed for tombolas.
Thanks again to Lilian (TinaD's mum) for giving us a much welcomed hand and feeding me bagels
The amount raised today was ... drum roll ... £185!
Our next fundraising event will be: 6 Sept 2009 - Dartford Companion Dog Show, Central Park, Dartford, Kent, DA1 1JP (entrance in Cranford Road)[/b]

Great photos - well done. The Ball in a Bucket looks very impressive - not sure what to say about the face painting

We were just hoping that someone would ask us how much something was on our £1 stall and we were going to charge them £2!
|
Tina D
|
Someone did actually ask early on how much something was!!!! I wasn't sure if he was being funny or not, so i didn't hit him!!
The face paints that Sharon used were in a crayon-like format and were from the 1980s (not mine-someone gave them to me) so she didn't do too badly with them!!
