sounds a really good idea Sharonr, much as I love Ebay, the postage costs often make things too expensive to sell. This is certainly the case with hardback books and some bricabrac, AND it would be other peoples money (remember the fundraising mantra !) Am working on 22nd Nove, but am more than willing to raid the attic and bookshelves to find suitable stuff and drop off somewhere.
|
Tina D
|
That sounds good to me!! I can help for a few hours on the day and might be able to borrow a van, if needed
|

|
Wonder how many kids go - can anyone do face painting i.e. dogs, cats, tigers?
|
Jane
|
Would you need me to send a chq to book the table?
If you guys are going for it - you have my full support and if you need anything let me know!
I will try to be there for that day. It would be fun
I will look at getting us a banner to go along the front of the table.
Any other ideas?
One idea I would really like to do is a RR car sticker
|
Sharonr - Admin
|
I think you should book it, assuming they still have a table - fingers crossed! I am definitely free on that day, but will have to come up by train or I could meet up with Tina D somewhere along the way? Am also happy to help set-up. Some thoughts ...
Team - Can we get together a definite team of 6 people to cover the day in 2 hour shifts - anyone else that wants to pop along will be welcome!
Was thinking we would need:
Xmas Cards and greeting cards
Bric a Brac, unwanted-gifts, household items in good condition
Dog beds?
Does anyone else make anything that we could sell?
RR Banner
Someone to drop everything off / pick everything up
A central place to store everything we get together
2 large X boards (that stand up) with up-to-date laminates of dogs available (1 for re-homing/1 for fostering). Do you have something like this already?
RR leaflets to hand out
Car stickers? (Does anyone know a kindly printer that would do us some stickers (maybe have free advertising on the back for them)?
Labelled collecting tins
Raffle tickets - if we had a nice large soft toy we could do a guess the name / mark up a board with 120 names and sell tickets for £1 each?
Tombola bucket?
Anyone out there who can add anything or wants to put their name down next besides something (it's usually good fun - promise!)?
|
Jane
|
Do we need to start a new thread for this
|
Jane

Before we go too far with this - I have emailed to see if they have a space.

| Quote: | How nice to hear from you - yes I can let you have a table. The cost is £30 for a 6ft x 3ft table and you will have a display board behind you. I will give you a £5 discount as a first time bonus.
|
So I have given my details for the forms to come to and I will start hoarding!
Lynne - drag out any collars that are brand new and not fitting the terriers!
I will order a banner.
Can someone take charge of the display board?
eeeeeek - its happening!!!!
|
Sharonr - Admin
|
YIPPEE! Can you ask her how big the display board is so we know how much room we have for display? Also beg your 'lovely' mum for more Xmas cards!
Right folks - let's get this show on the road!
Who wants to help out and is up for a day out with a difference?
Does anyone know a 'kindly' printer?
Who has stuff to sell and can get it to the RR team?
Who can ferry the stuff to and from the venue?
Who wants to meet the gang and buy on the day?
Who wants to be a millionaire - dream on - in the meantime, please give us a hand!
|
karen

One thought - would it be possible to have a lap top available with a slide show flicking over of both all the RR happy stories / photos and the dogs still waiting.
I am not techie enough to know how it is done but know it can be!! Just thinking that a 6ft / 3ft table is quite small and so the display space won't be that big and by using a moving display you can convay more info.

Hiya guys this is such good news, I would love to help out. A friend of mine makes beautiful handmade dog bowls on a potters wheel, I'll buy about six from her of different sizes and we can either sell or put into the raffle
xx
|
Jane
|
Once I know who is coming - I can try to organise some matching t-shirts for us to wear so we all look the part!
So names and sizes (by pm if you like )
So far....
Me,
Sally,
Sharon.
Now - should the banner be 1ft x 6ft or 2ft x 6ft?
|
Sharonr - Admin
|
From a budget perspective, you don't want to eat into your too much into your takings. So would suggest banner size is subject to cost - what is the difference in price?
Also from experience there is not much different between Medium & Large so would suggest you get Large & XLarge t-shirts so that can be laundered and returned to you for use next time. Unless you get someone volunteer who is small, in which case my argument is shot!
|
Sharonr - Admin
|
Great news on the dog bowls Sally - can she incorporate the rescue remedies logo on them by chance?
|
Sally
|
That is a great idea, will email her and ask

Dont know if this is a goer but is a suggestion....I know animals arent allowed inside the venue but is it worth a couple of people with their RR dogs outside to hand out a flyer with details of the charity, maybe some kind of raffle where they fill in their details on the flyer (maybe along with a small donation eg just a £1) drop off at the stall (which will get them to visit) and allow them to win a decent prize - I dont mind trying to wrangle the prize, and bringing my rr dog on the day....

I will see what they say about it

Tina D

Yay!!!!
I have been looking round my house mentally packing things up already
I can do the setting up and help with the first "shift" if you want? My mother said that she will come along too (my T-shirt size will definitely be XL )
SharonR My closest station is Mile End so we can meet up somewhere if you want- it is nice that someone is up my end of town, i thought that everyone but me was Richmond way!!
I am happy to collect stuff and drop it off or store it at mine if you want? I have some brand new unwanted birthday prezzies that might do as a tombola prize if you wanted to do something like that. I have two boxes of books already packed up that i was going to take to the charity shop.
I was thinking that it would be good to have some of the "success" stories and the laptop thing is a good idea. If not that, what about one of those digital photo frames? It would show the photos too and could be put on the wall behind the table?
Yay!!!
|
Sharonr - Admin
|
You guys are REALLY ROCKING now! Loved the dog/flyer outside idea, and the digital photo frame (does anyone have one of those)?
Tina - Mile End is on my route will definitely make arrangements to meet you. Send me a PM nearer the time

I was thinking over the weekend that we need to put prices on the stuff so i will have a look in WH smith to see if i can get little stickers that we can write prices on. I was also going to put some money in the RR account (as i still can't find my cheque book!!) but it might be better if i change it up and bring lots of change with me on the day.
We will probable also need carrier bags and newspaper (if we are selling anything breakable, trinkets etc) so i am saving those up too and i may be able to scrounge some bubble-wrap from work
BTW i have a fairly large dog crate that i don't need (i was given it for my rabbits but they prefer to be outside) I haven't measured it though. I was thinking that it would probably be too big to bring along on the day (people wouldn't want to have to carry it home!) but if it is of use, i could bring it/drop it off when we are pooling "stuff" for the sale??
|
Jane
|
Good idea Tina,
I received the flyers and info today in regards to the fair - i will send copies to those who need them
|
Sharonr - Admin
|
Great ideas Tina. Don't worry about buying labels - I have a source for some! Have added them to my list of things to bring and will also bring scissors, pen & paper, string, blue tack, sellotape, calculator.
|
Tina D
|
I was also wondering if it would be worth making "healthy" dog treats and bagging them up to sell. I know that there are laws on what "human" food you can sell (so we probably couldn't bake a load of fairy cakes and sell them) but i think that you can with animal food. If anyone has any recipies for the liver treats or doggie biscuits we could perhaps make some to sell there??

Re brochures
Sadly a no go from the guy on good will gallery -
"Hi Katie,
thank you for your email.
Unfortunately our service is restricted to programmes for events, concerts, fetes, shows etc. We cover our cost through advertising within the programmes and this is how we are able to give the programmes away for free.
Sorry we couldn't be of more help.
Best wishes ,
Emlyn "

Feel free to save and print out to send to people or put on pinboards of shops and vets in your area!

This came from a very kind neighbour when I first got Scooby. She called it 'come back cake' - I call it 'get rid off the family out of the house cake'. It works in both senses as dogs love it and my family cannot stand the smell when I cook it!!
Lambs Liver - about your usual supermarket packet.
8oz self raising flour
1 clove of garlic or 1-2 teaspoons of dry garlic
1 egg
4 tablespoons of cooking oil
2 tablespoons of water
Liquidize the liver and then add egg, garlic, oil and water and whizz again.
In a separate bowl add the liver mixture to the flour (DO NOT add flour to liver as it does not work) Mix well.
Spread onto a greased baking tray and cook in the oven (180) until brown and cooked through. Cut into cubes and keep some in the fridge and freeze some.
If I can, will try to make some and package it up!!

The cards should go down really well. I have sold quite a few that Jane gave me last week. They are very easy to sell!!
As the evenings are drawing in, I have had a bit of a sort out and found quite a few left over party bags from various kids parties and I was thinking that it might be an idea to have a lucky dip at the fare. I paid about £4-5 for some of them and thought we could put them in box and charge, say £1 a go. I could do about 10 of them and wondered if anybody else had bits and bobs that could be wrapped and put in. They are basically adult annoying toys and a packet of sweets. A waste of money but kids love them!!
|
Jane

Thank you Karen - you are a star!
I have loads more here if you run out
Also, I have sent some flyers out to some people here - please could you pop them up in local vets/pets shops etc
Thanks

Hi All,
I am sorry, i have been on here properly for a few weeks. I have had a sort out and have found some stuff and am still finding more
Did we decide if we were going to have the stuff at one person's house and who's house?
I will make some of the "come back cake" and have found some recipies for some meat and cheese biscuits too that i might have a go at (not sure if my Lucie is the best tester as she will east anything and look at you saying "mmm, that was delicious, do you have any more"
I have to go in hospital on Friday but i should be out by Monday or Tuesday so i won't be able to check this over the weekend but should be able to next week.
BTW: i thought of doing Lucky dip bags too but i forgot to mention it. I am going to buy some bits and pieces for my brother's birthday party (i always find that stuff on the tables keeps both the kids and adults quiet and happy!!) so if i can, i will order this or next week so that i can get extra bits for the lucky dip bags :-)
I was thinking also that we could include a recipie for the dog biscuits/treats inside the bags as a bit of an added incentive to buy, kind of "buy this bag and you will then be able to make them yourself at home"...?
|
Jane
|
Good ideas Tina. Sorry to hear you are going to go into hospital but glad its only a swift visit.
I have ordered our banner
Can we collect and bring plastic bags to show items in when they get sold.
I have a huge bag of tripe sticks that were donated to us. I will bag them up for sale. Do you think 5 for £2 is a good rate???
I will bring stuff from Hampshire to the fair.
Not sure if there will be a one place to put things - just means moving things twice.
I will be getting badges for those who are helping - not sure when they will arrive though.
Also, a big thak you to Karen who hae managed to sell loads of cards and has raised £32.50

I think my local supermarket charge £2.49 for a bag, but I get mine for £1 from another shop! May be £1.75 - what do you think?
Jane - did you check whether someone can walk up and down outside with dogs and hand out leaflets?
Also sorry to hear about your hospital visit Tina - speedy recovery.
Really looking forward to Chelsea.
|
Jane
|
I doubt that someone will be able to hand stuff out outside - there will be 50 rescues there so I wthink it would be mayhem and a tad stressful for the dogs TBH.
|
Tina D
|
Thank you Jane and Sharon for your kind wishes
Does anyone know what time we should arrive? I would imagine that we can arrive early for setting up etc?
I will be off work for the next two weeks but i can do some power point signs for the stuff that we are selling if you want? Nothing fancy but i have two boxes of books and i was going to do a sign that said "Books 50p each or 3 for £1"
|
Jane
|
Just popping in to say that I will be posting details of timings etc very shortly.
Also, need to make contact with those who will be helping on the stall on the day.
|
Jane

I have emailed everyone who expressed helping out on the day. If you wanted to help but have not received and email from me - please let me know.
Thanks

Having edit rights to this subject, I was tempted to change the title of my photo or remove it
I had a great day and am thrilled to hear the amount we raised. It was also lovely to put faces to some login names too and everyone pulled together - we were a great team!
Highlights of the day were definitely the lady and her husband who searched RR out specifically and gave us a cheque for £50 - they have an RR rescue dog (you know who you are) - we were all delighted! And TinaD, what can I say, she pulled out all the stops - she contributed a mountain of good quality items, plus baked, plus donated a very large cash float, plus gave me a lift in! We are all very grateful to you Tina.
Thank you.
We all enjoyed it very much and we still have a large amount of very sellable stuff left. If anyone spots a local hall fair or sale event - Surrey, London or counties - please let us know as we would be keen to do another one. The main criteria is that it's inside. Please keep us posted.
